Yeah I know, the CG fire dinosaur started spinning and I was like

IS THIS POKEMON

zzeroparticle Oct 9, 2008 02:11 AM

I'm just at a loss for words when I saw that spinning dino. And during the last 3 minutes of the episode. Talk about an eye-opener.

Kannagi: It's been done before, but I'll be damned if I didn't enjoy that first episode. The comedy and the character interactions hooked be in right off the bat. Just based off of that, it looks like there's a solid slice of life comedy to be had here.

A wild CLASS-B KASHASAUR appeared!

CLASS-B KASHASAUR used RAPID SPIN!

It's not very effective...

Spoiler:
A wild CLASS-A SCHOOLGIRL appeared!

CLASS-A SCHOOLGIRL used STABBITY DEATH!

It's super effective!

4TH DIVISION fainted.

Ozma Oct 9, 2008 03:51 AM

Btw, can anyone tell me does Hakushaku to Yousei have anything good? And is Ga-Rei that bad?

What I'm aiming this season:

Obligatory:
CLANNAD Afterstory
Chaos;HEAd TV (good game!)
To Aru Majutsu no Index
Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae
Nodame Cantabile -Paris Hen-

Still on question:
Hakushaku to Yousei (still don't know the story)
Ga-Rei (your words make me doubt it a bit...)

Animechanic Oct 9, 2008 04:18 AM

Ooh ooh! What if...
Ga-Rei-Zero related:
it's like Groundhog Day, and they just keep repeating the same day over and over and getting killed in different ways! :3:

FatsDomino Oct 9, 2008 05:07 AM

Spoiler:
Oh I hope so. Every episode the main cast gets introduced and destroyed. Episode two has a lot to live up to. :)

Tails Oct 9, 2008 11:16 AM

FFFFFFFFFF subs for Kemeko are out, going to watch in a few minutes here.

Macademi Wasshoi - Was very...weird. It's like Maburaho meets Zero no Tsukaima. The characters all look like they're five, which doesn't help. Interesting enough premise though, and any show that uses an over nine thousand joke is worth giving a three episode test.

Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) was very weird also, but in a creepier kind of weird. I like Daisuke Ono as the main and having Emiri Katou (quickly becoming one of my favorite female VAs in her roles as Ran Isozaki and Blair) in there is a huge boost as far as voice talent goes. Jun Fukuyama is in there somewhere as well. What isn't he in? Anyways, demon butler, 12 year old master, board game, italian people in ovens. I enjoyed the first ep a lot.

Maybe if I'm not so distracted by other stuff I can watch Kemeko, Index and Akane-iro today sometime.

EDIT: Ahahaha god, Ga-Rei has a competitor for best first episode. Kemeko 01 is amazing.

Kemeko DX:

Someone somewhere is going to have a fit over this.

How many eps you think it'll be before mystery girl is forced to pull unwitting main guy into Kemeko with her in order to protect him. Awkward arousing hilarity ensues, etc.

Taco Oct 9, 2008 10:37 PM

Just watched Chaos;head, that'll be another trip of a show. The male lead has no shortage of screws loose, combined with ultraviolence and girls with large weaponry, what could go wrong?

Also the ED almost says "super special awesome" except without the "awesome."

zzeroparticle Oct 10, 2008 02:42 AM

Tonight's not looking to be a good night.

Hyakko: Just seems really "meh." The characters don't engage me all that much and it looks like to be the standard high school hijinks deal. Will sit through maybe 2 more episodes for this to prove itself or out it goes.

Kameko DX: Definite pass. Concept has been done before except this time, the jokes aren't even funny. Also, failure to make me care about the characters and the over-the-top pacing just doesn't fit my tastes for a good show. Preview doesn't look promising either.

Casshern Sins episode 1 had me on the fence... Casshern Sins episode 2 has made me a believer. The series is pretty morbid and dark, so this might upset folks who like throwing the word "angst" around. I found it fairly well executed, and marked out on the action scene toward the end of the episode and how bleak of a turn the ending took after what the viewer initially sees. And whoever said this show resembles an animated version of Mega Man Zero, you're pretty astute.

Taco Oct 12, 2008 01:28 AM

I always thought Casshern looked a lot more like Quick Man, actually.

Rotorblade Oct 12, 2008 01:46 AM

Art style, genius, not design.

He predates Mega Man, I believe.

Well he does look like him, but thanks. Glad you liked the show. As far as angst goes, nothing surpasses Evangelion, the epitome of angst >.<.

Rotorblade Oct 12, 2008 10:48 PM

Well, there's many ways this show can go bad, but for now it is a very compelling reimagining of the series. The art style makes me think that Mega Man Zero could have worked in animated form, though I'm not sure they'd have had the guts to tell the kind of story this anime is attempting to tell. I can't wait for episode 3.

FatsDomino Oct 12, 2008 10:57 PM

I'm pretty sure that Megaman X is based on Casshern just like Megaman is based on Astro Boy.

Rotorblade Oct 12, 2008 11:23 PM

The original Mega Man borrows from many sources, and not just visual concepts from Astro Boy. Friender and Rush are a good first comparison to make. Moreover, Tetsuya allowing himself to be turned into a super fighting robot (heeeeee) is just as comparable to the decision Rock makes to begin Mega Man 1, Acer. Mega Man X might match Casshern a bit more in tone, but there are many things the original Mega Man has in common with Casshern.

Dark Nation Oct 13, 2008 04:18 AM

Blah linked me this thread so I checked out one of the shows, which was Ga-Rei-Zero this time.

What. the. fuck. @ Episode Ending.

CG Dinosaur was kinda cool. I am intrigued, can't wait for episode 2.

Tails Oct 13, 2008 04:22 AM

Episode 2 is more of the same, in all aspects. SUBS WHERE.

I wonder if they're going to keep that shit up the entire series.

Bigblah Oct 13, 2008 10:14 AM

Toradora has shot up my watch list after episode 2. I'm digging that opening animation.

YouTube Video

chato Oct 13, 2008 10:31 AM

This opening's sick. I only hope there aren't a shitload of fanboy/girl remixes ;p.

Taco Oct 13, 2008 10:32 AM

The opening is doubtlessly one of the more unique I've heard recently in a romantic comedy series. I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me.

neothe0ne Oct 14, 2008 12:17 AM

Toradora's OP is the second song of all time that features Rie Kugimiya in it that I actually enjoy (the first, being Zero no Tsukaima Princess no Rondo's "Gomen ne", is only decent)
