OH MAN, I LOVE TETRIS, AND NOW WITH SUIKODEN! SWEET!

... wait, you mean... that's not... its only... really?

...Oh.... ok then.

Jokes aside, The game seems to have a decent enough presentation, but I wonder how the gameplay is?
The fuck does Tierkreis mean anyway?

Rotorblade Sep 16, 2008 10:07 PM

Tierkreis (Stockhausen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

THEM LAAAAASERS.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 16, 2008 10:20 PM

Tierkreis is German for "Zodiac". I thought we talked about that.

Rotorblade Sep 16, 2008 10:24 PM

We did?

So was my ignorance.

Dark Nation Sep 16, 2008 11:02 PM

Well okay, in that case the title makes a bit more sense, but you know they're gonna re-name it for Western Release. So Suikoden Zodiac Brave Story or something like that then?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 16, 2008 11:13 PM

"Suikoden Tierkreis" is already trademarked in the US. Bozon made no mention of the title being changed (besides the usual dropping of "Genso"), so expect Tierkreis to remain.

No, Suikoden Tactics really was shit. The characters were completely vanilla, the voice acting made me want to rip my own ears off, the story was predictable as all fuck, the battle system had hundreds of flaws and made the game not challenging, just annoying and the whole thing just basically sucked massive hairy balls. I liked Suikoden IV, despite it's many flaws but even I couldn't bring myself to finish Tactics.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 17, 2008 07:20 PM

The story was so oddball that it was hard to predict outside of Iskas being a bad guy.

I liked both games. The whole
Spoiler:
"lol ur mom's a goat"
was one of the most hilariously bad plot twists of all time, and Rune Tiles were an excellent addition to the tired grid-based formula of Strategy-RPGs.

Anyway, the main baddie in Tierkreis sounds like Sovereign from Mass Effect. Or was it Saren? I can't remember.

There, I've fixed your poorly out of touch reply so you seem like less of a git.

Suikoden Tactics didn't just do poorly because people didn't like IV. It didn't do very well because it was exploring the same world with characters we weren't very attached to and the plot twists were just awful. I -love- the idea of a Suikoden tactics game. I would adore it if they made follow ups in their own world. But none of that saves ST from being poorly designed, poorly executed and poor all around on its own two feet.

Suikoden Tactics doesn't need IV's coattails to suck. Did that all on its own.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 17, 2008 08:28 PM

You're boring.

When you saw the word "butthurt," it was your cue to just go ahead and assume that my post was not going to be thought-provoking commentary on why a large portion of players out there disliked Suikoden Tactics, nor was it going to be a thorough examination of the game's strengths and faults. I saw, long ago, a vocal group that disliked Tactics for the series' continued connection to Suikoden IV, and I choose to pounce on that group when I feel like it's relevant.

And you're stupid.

You assumed I wasn't attacking you precisely because your post was idiotic and lacked any actual depth.

If you can't back up what you say, don't fucking say it.

No no, you see, my "boring" comment was already a retort; to your "git" comment in specific. Now you just look silly by retorting a retort.

Bigblah Sep 17, 2008 08:47 PM

Please pretend that I have just posted something absolutely hilarious and sarcastic.

You are not especially bright, nor very good at this. Keep it up, though. I haven't seen a good banning in a few days.

I have no sense of humor and I cannot detect sarcasm, dissing you for your incredibly offensive post

Muzza Sep 17, 2008 09:55 PM

So wait...GB actually likes Tactics? I'm confused, frightened, appalled and amused.

Hay guys I have box art. BOX ART FOR YOU.

http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...hL._SS500_.jpg

Fun fact: this marks the 2000th box art for mah scary folder. Of DS box art. Over 1900 of them are Ubisoft Petz and Imagine games.

map car man words telling me to do things Oct 6, 2008 06:31 AM

I see it comes on a CD! Finally the DS stops using old technology and comes to the now so we get some loading times!

Muzza Oct 6, 2008 06:33 AM

8-) And what a great box art it is! If there's one thing I'm confident about with this game, its the graphical design and artwork!

Also, haha, the characters on the cover look like they're going to destroy something. 'Fernal's scary folder perhaps?! =O Girl on the left: "It's grown so big! My goodness, we'll never be able to destroy it!

Edit: No, Qwarky, it's a complementary Drama CD! You know, detailing the adventures of the scary folder etc

OmagnusPrime Oct 6, 2008 06:36 AM

Interesting, I wonder what the 'Drama CD' will contain. Something dramatic you would imagine, but who knows.

Also, in before boring coverart redesign for the west.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Oct 6, 2008 12:11 PM

Drama CDs are usually just dramatic retellings of a related story. In this case it might be the Suikoden I Radio Drama that just started a couple weeks ago, or it might be for Tierkreis. I dunno.

wenchwogg Oct 6, 2008 07:44 PM

I like the interesting approach. 104 defeated in combat ... beginning at the end of a story. Hopefully the resurrection thing doesn't cheapen the deaths / sacrifices that have made the entire series (sans 4) so captivating up until now.

As opposed to old fashioned, bland, anime-style characters in "Dramatic" poses with "Oh-my-god-I-need-a-shit" faces of grim determination for the Eastern market, succesfully making the box blend in really well with pretty much every other rpg ever released?

Anyway, Suikoden covers generally survive the trip west pretty well and let's face it, once you've bought the thing how much time to you spend looking at anything other than the spine of the box?
