Wow, I guess... I guess I wasn't clear enough for you? Let me explain myself a little.

Yay I'm a troll! Nobody's called me that before here, it's like a rite of passage!

Anyway, the 360 and the PS3 are practically the same system to me. Therefore, there's no reason I can think of a straight port wouldn't work.

The Wii on the other hand is a significantly different system. Not just because of the system specs which are in a completely different field, but even moreso because of the controller. I thought that was all pretty obvious, but I guess I was counting on some understanding on the part of the reader.

Just like a port of, say, Zack & Wiki would (in principle) be silly on the 360, the same goes for this. This is how I see it.

Reading is hard!

I have several reasons to think it won't work out. I don't think the Wii can handle having a shitbunch of zombies at once, which is one of the main appeals of the game. Hell, the 360 couldn't handle it half the time. I also don't think that Wiimote-based controls will be effective for this game. But I would love to be proven wrong on this. After all, I own a Wii and would love to buy Dead Rising (which is possibly my favorite game of this generation) for it.

But not if it's a shadow of its former self, you know? Which I fear it could be.

There, happy? :erm:

That's why more and more games are allowing you to use the classic controller. I've heard Capcom allowed people to use it for Resident Evil 4 so I see no reason why they wouldn't let you use a regular controller for Dead Rising.

The Wiimote works great for games that are based around it... well sometimes. But any ports of regular games should always allow a regular controller.

One has to wonder if this is kind of a foreshadowing. If they can port one 360 game to the Wii, perhaps they'll port Resident Evil 5 over later down the road?

Lukage Jul 18, 2008 08:04 PM

Now see, surasshu, that was legit. Put a little thought into it and it comes out just fine.

The biggest shock to me on this announcement is simply the content. It is nice to see that Capcom is really performing well for all major platforms in this "year of the zombie."

See: Left 4 Dead

Well yeah, you could always use the classic controller or plug in a Gamecube controller or whatever, but... I don't see the point in the port in the first place in that case. With Resident Evil 4, I could really get into the idea of using the Wiimote. I haven't actually played it so I don't know how this works out, but I considered RE4 to be basically House of the Dead sans rails. So using an aiming device makes sense to me. RE5 would make sense to me as well, if it has the same gameplay (probably does).

Dead Rising though? I don't know. Maybe I'm being too skeptical since there's no footage or anything, but to me it makes no sense to do this.

Then again, as long as the game is ported properly, at least it will mean people who own the Wii and no 360 can play it. That's always a good thing, since it's a brilliant game. MOAR ZOMBIES etc.

Lukage Jul 18, 2008 10:23 PM

Capcom did fine with Okami.

RE4 worked out very well with the Wiimote.

I see no reason for this to be an exception.

Infozzz: Can no longer take photos, timer is gone.

Krelian Jul 19, 2008 05:05 AM

Game is called Dead Rising: Zombie Sacrifice. Mission structure is different and more linear. Photo mode removed because it didn't click with the new over-the-shoulder camera setup.

Some new content makes up for the WII GRAFX - new enemies and weapons confirmed so far.

surasshu Jul 21, 2008 06:36 AM

They took out all the things that made the game unique. :( I know people complained about it, but I actually loved the timer and the hardcore death stuff, it made the game much more intense than most games where you can just die over and over and it doesn't matter, or just fuck about without caring about time or anything. Dead Rising's system brought a sense of urgency with it that was unrivaled in any game I'd ever played before.

As for the photo taking thing, it wasn't the most important element of the game but it was really fun. Taking that out doesn't really make sense to me--why not just go into first person mode temporarily like in the 360 game?

I don't really care about the graphics. The 360 game wasn't exactly gorgeous either, and it'll look much better in motion. It's more about whether the Wii can handle the masses of zombies on-screen, which you can't tell from screenshots.

Anyway I hope that if they do make a Dead Rising 2 on 360, they won't leave out the timer and death stuff, cause that really made the game a lot better for me.

Really though, I think Capcom is just being cheap & lazy at this point in the Graphics department, because that's not even good Gamecube quality

So I just found some videos of this game in action. I was actually expecting something more than this:
YouTube Video

WolfDemon Aug 19, 2008 05:51 PM

Other than being able to kill that little bitch dog (excuse my pun) from the beginning, it looks like ass. I may get it from Gamefly for a few days, after I've played everything else first, but there's no way in hell I'm buying this.

Rotorblade Aug 19, 2008 06:16 PM

I liked the other version of Resident Evil 4 better.

Kairi Li Aug 19, 2008 06:24 PM

Oh wow, look at the way he grabs that umbrella and plows through... seven zombies?

Not impressed at all, as much as I would enjoy the Wii control scheme, the complete lack of giant hordes of zombies makes this game look like a wimpier version of RE4. I mean, giant horders of zombies was the entire POINT of Dead Rising.

Man, looks like the majority of the Japanese are only gonna play this gimped version. Then again, maybe that's what they like?

OmagnusPrime Aug 21, 2008 08:02 AM

Unfortunately it looks as if the move to the Wii has really taken a tool on the game. I doubt anyone expected it to match the 360 version for graphics or numbers of zombies, but part of the fun of the game is how you make your way from place to place, cutting a path through the zombies. In that video it looks like you'll have almost unrestricted movement, it's just how you decide to make a path via the zombies.

Inhert Aug 21, 2008 12:19 PM

From what I saw in the video you could just walk between the 4 or 5 zombies on screen >.>

Kilroy Aug 21, 2008 12:26 PM

Let's not forget that the Psyckopaths apperently is zombies now. Why can't you kill people in Nintendo games?

(This makes me fear for the GTA game for DS:( )

Doesn't make much of a difference to begin with if you ask me. You're already killing zombies. =|

Preview up at IGN.

I wasn't too enthusiastic about the trailer Kilroy posted, but this preview has piqued my interest once more. I am definitely going to wait until the game is complete before completely writing it off.

If nothing else, the game now sports one of the greatest trailers ever.
