Dear Lord, my dad loved Pinky and the Brain SO MUCH. And you cannot mention Buttons and Mindy around my sister without her quipping "Okay I love you bye bye!"

This is like... gold for them. For me... well, I was too absentminded as a kid to really appreciate the finer points of these shows.

As for a Tiny Toons DVD box set, they had BETTER fucking include the Citizen Kane spinoff, as well as the one where they end up on the Death Star and the one where they go to... I *think* it was the center of the Earth.

Honestly, I always found Tiny Toons overrated. Granted the show had its moments (the shortlived Plucky spinoff, the summer and easter vacation specials, and my personal favorite, the one where all the kids had to create an animated short to be judged by Bugs, Porky and Daffy. "Dizzy Eat World!" made me laugh so hard I was crying), but in the end it tried way too hard to have a hip, '90s attitude, and most of the characters were just annoying knockoffs of the classic characters they tried to pay homage to. Watching Sylvestor get nearly torn in half every time he tried to eat Tweety was fine, but when it happens to a cute kitten like Furball, it just felt cruel. :(

IMO, Animaniacs was far superior to TT in every aspect, and the show's creators probably believed the same thing, considering the times they decided to rip on the show.

Wakko: "We're Tiny, we're Toony, we're all a little....ahhh, I'm sick of that song."

Agreed. The fact that the Animaniacs were all-new meant that the writers had to create a brand-new mythos and humor for them, instead of rehashing. Yeah, there's still the nods and winks toward the old days, but for the most part it was all their own world.

I love both Animaniacs and Tiny Toons, but in this case I'm glad that Animaniacs gets the nod first.

I've been waiting years for Pinky and the Brain DVDs. Its about time.

screw that. where's my Freakazoid set?

el jacko Mar 31, 2006 04:58 PM

Eh, I was always annoyed with Animaniacs. I never really enjoyed the show, and was particularly pissed when they started second showings of it on Saturday mornings, and took Earthworm Jim (my favorite show at the time) off the air to do so. (BTW: has EWJ gotten a DVD set yet? it needs one)

Pinky and the Brain, though! That is some awesome news. I always remember searching the opening video for the little blurbs of noise Pinky makes, though all I could find was "zort" near the end (and of course "narf" at the end). Oh and this:

The Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: I think so Brain, but if Jimmy cracked corn, and no one cares, why does he keep doing it?

Man, I know I shouldn't spend the money, but I will have the Animaniacs set. No question. It WILL be mine.

I spend so many happy afternoons at my grandmother's house watching that show. Ah, nostalgia.

A classic in every sense of the word. :)

I forget...what was the episode that was an ongoing Beatles gag? Great parodies there, such as "All You Eat is Lunch". And of course, at the end..."I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS!!!...narf." :D

Brain: Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

Pinky: I think so Brain, but burlap chafes me so.

My personal favorite:

Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

Pinky: ....Yes I am!

Boxart!
No specs yet, though.

Soldier Apr 5, 2006 10:17 PM

Very well done. You think WB would show that same love for Justice League and Batman boxarts, but noooo.

Megalith Apr 5, 2006 10:18 PM

Whew, I'm so glad it says Spielberg on the cover.
