Whew, watching xxxHolic actually becomes cure of my disappointment toward Tsubasa. At least I could see the connection between the two movie

Yuna Apr 14, 2006 09:41 AM

I watched the Tsubasa Chronicle movie a few days ago and I enjoyed it a lot. To be honest, I belive this was the best action oriented episodes of the series.

Hyuga Jehuty Apr 14, 2006 02:56 PM

I found the Tsubasa Chronicle anime to be rather average. Nothing really captivating, though I did feel compelled to finish it(well, I feel this way with pretty much any series that I watch).

I haven't checked out the movie yet though, since I'm waiting to see if AniKraze is going to release it or not.

I thought FUNimation licensed it, which means that A-Kraze won't be subbing it anytime soon.

I just watched the raw of the first episode of season two. While some aspects were definitely improved (Yuuko is no longer a shoujo anime reject! Kurogane is no longer the poster boy for anorexia!), some failed to raise the bar; the OP and ED sequences felt plain and uninspired.

If you're a manga fan, you're going to have to live with the changes they've made to the anime. It seems that they're switching around Shara/Shura and Piffle World so that the second season can end on something dramatic. I'm not really complaining, as Piffle World's inherently boring anyways.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, especially the second half with Shara/Shura. There's gonna be some good stuff right there.

I'm saying this much right now, if BeeTrain make Tsubassa Cronicale S2 suck in such a mannor that made S1 look like some wierd ass .hack, I swear I will physicly remove someone's balls with my teeth.
Probably someone from BeeTrain.

I went into the second season with the exact same fears, but I came out of the first episode with the impression that Bee Train learned from their mistakes and now they're trying to honor CLAMP's style rather than twist it to be their own. That's exactly why the character designs look different, and I applaud them for making that change.

Conan-the-3rd Apr 30, 2006 05:04 AM

Indeed, I meen comeon, they even had HOE! You can't deny that in seven minutes they made up for the assholery that S1 was.

iamamoogle May 15, 2006 12:13 AM

Yeah, i was kind of confused that they skipped over so much of the manga... I mean, what about the world with the rabbits and, as previously mentioned, the Shara/Shura worlds.

I've only really read Del Rey's publications (I have some scans of the later chapters, but haven't got around to them). The best part of the Piffle world arc so far is that its reminding me of Card Captor Sakura again. I also liked the "Hoe" and Sakura and Syoaran's expressions where very reminiscent of their Card Captor Sakura selves.... Tomoyo is a welcome addition... now if only there was Kero... He's really the only other major Card Captor Sakura character to be missing... maybe he'll play a more prominent roll in the series later on...

I enjoyed the first season quite a bit... though the filler episodes (the tournament and the one about climbing the top of the mountain to grant a wish) were very different (especially in the filler character designs... they didn't even look remotely like CLAMP's) and really didn't fit.... much like the movie.

I'm glad that xXxHOLiC is turning out pretty well as a series... It's movie was also pretty good. It did try to explain the "holic" title at least.

eriol33 May 15, 2006 01:50 AM

Latest chapter, 115.

Spoiler:
The one-eyed Shaoran visiting Yuuko? What is his wish that want to be fulfilled?

As previously conjectured, they probably did it to have the second season end with a "bang" rather than a whimper. I mean, really; Piffle World is dreadfully boring in the manga, and I can't see how they could try to spice it up in the anime.

Chapter 119 raw has been released already... and just as I thought...

Spoiler:
Syaoran is really a clone of real syaoran. That means both of them are actually clones

One mystery confirmed.

One mystery confirmed.

Chapter 119:
No, the Syaoran that Fei Wan sealed away was the "real" Syaoran. He can't be a clone of himself if he's the real deal.

Tama8-chan Jun 21, 2006 12:37 AM

Have DB-LE stopped subbing Tsubasa Chronicle or something? Or are they just VERY slow?

Sir VG Jun 21, 2006 02:59 AM

They do seem a bit slow. S2 7 & 8 are up on l33t-raws (though admitably, I can't seem to get 7 to start downloading).

And for those curious, they have gone back a bit in the Manga, to Shara/Shura Worlds (books 8 & 9 if I remember right). So they're not ending on this arc. I doubt they could stretch that 20 episodes. I give it 5 episodes (7-11). Though I haven't read anything in the manga after that, as I'm not getting any RAW manga at the moment, so I could easily be wrong on the 5 episode count.

I still feel that Episode 32 (S2 Ep6) was just fantastic, even without subs. You could still feel the mood and feelings of the scene even if you didn't know much.

About one outfit in the episode:
Spoiler:
Bee Train is definately pulling in CLAMP's style now. Chii's outfit at the end of the episode was taken from Cardcaptor Sakura. It was shown in the intro to CCS Season 2.

And in regards to one VA:
Spoiler:
Is it me, or is Chii's VA somebody else now? Cause she sounds really different than what I heard in Episode 1, she sounded really high and squeaky now

They're going to go even further than I thought they would and adapt the world after Shara/Shura and Piffle World. I think there's one filler episode after Shara/Shura ends, since I saw a list of episode titles recently.

I honestly don't see how Bee Train is going to faithfully adapt the current manga arc into the anime once they reach that point. It's easily the most violent so far.

Speaking of which...

Chapitre 120:
Holy shit. If there was ever a pivotal arc in Tsubasa, then the Tokyo arc is it. There's been so much stuff going on in Tokyo that it's making my head spin, not to mention that CLAMP's tendency to take breaks kind of messes up the flow slightly.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the plot twists that CLAMP's thrown at us in recent chapters (Xing Huo helping the "Evil Syaoran"? How is Yuuko interfering by helping "Evil Syaoran"? Subaru and Kamui are the twin vampires? "Evil Syaoran" is really the real Syaoran and the Syaoran we know is just a clone created by Fei Wan?) but chapitre 120 makes all of those plot twists look like run-of-the-mill everyday things.

Fei Wan kills Xing Huo? Syaoran blinds Fai in his left eye?

Not to mention that Yuuko looks like she's explaining a helluva lot at the beginning of the chapter and so does Fei Wan right before we see that Xing Huo's dead as a doornail. Gotta wait for a translation...

What the hell is going on?

Sir VG Jun 22, 2006 07:05 AM

It'll definately be interesting to see the next world, given its major CCS references.

Chapter 91 references
Spoiler:
1: Page 14 (15.jpg) the bottom panel shows somebody flying on a staff that is identicle to Sakura's staff when the Fly card is activated from the 1st 2 seasons of CCS (Season 3 Fly's function changed)

2: The book creating worlds and being an unnamed book, as well as blank, is a reference to CCS's "Create Card", which was untitled, and blank until the author wrote something in, and what was written in while the book remained open was brought to life.

And they're going fairly fast though the present world. I'm feeling like they are gonna get through in 5 episodes a bit strongly now, if they keep up this pace. So there'll be plenty of more worlds to come yet.

Plus 5 episodes will make this world go from episodes 7-11, landing that filler ep you mentioned on 12, which was Bee Train's magical number-divisible-by-4 mark which we saw throughout Season 1. Maybe by chance they'll do that short little world at the beginning of Book 7, the area infected by wind? They could do that in an episode.

eriol33 Jun 22, 2006 07:09 AM

Next World?
Spoiler:
The ruined tokyo, alternative storyline of X/1999. We will see Kamui and Fuuma companion switched all over. Kamui keep addressing Syaoran as "Subaru"

Just ignore my post if you have grabbed the latest raw.

Some was right and some was wrong:
You forgot about Rekord, which Sir VG mentioned in his spoiler tag. After Rekord is Tokyo.

Kamui doesn't address Syaoran as "Subaru," though. Subaru is an entirely different person--one of the twin vampires that Seishirou's hunting for (the other is Kamui himself). He merely refers to Syaoran as "E," or "bait."

eriol33 Jun 22, 2006 02:13 PM

uh yeah, I forgot that one

Spoiler:

what does E could mean btw? "Picture"? In the end Kamui asked whether he is Subaru though. I see some clue of shonen ai relation ship between subaru here, who *might* has given his blood to seishirou.

thanks for pointing these out. ;)

It's a direct reference to xxxHOLiC:
There was an incident in volume 5 of xxxHOLiC where Yuuko told Watanuki not to be "E." "E" was translated by Del Rey as "game," or "bait." The soul-stealers from volume 5 were also revealed in chapitre 120 to be directly tied to Fei Wang--he's stealing souls to fulfill his dream.

Kamui never asked Syaoran if he was Subaru. From chapitre 117:

pg25.
Kamui:
I'll kill you.

If your blood is drank dry, then perhaps he will awaken...

pg26.
Subaru.

From chapitre 118:

pg8.
Kamui:
...I will..

awaken Subaru.

As soon as he arrived in this world, Subaru went to sleep under these waters...

I came here to protect that sleep. However,

pg9.
If he stays like this, that guy will catch up to us.

We need to move to the next world...

pg10.
Subaru.

How could Kamui have asked Syaoran if he was Subaru if Subaru went to sleep when he arrived in Tokyo?

Also, Kamui confirmed that Subaru gave his blood to Seishirou.

Kamui:
Then does it belong to that hunter?

Since Subaru gave his blood to that guy...

CLAMP would be insane to not imply the same type of relationship between Subaru and Seishirou as witnessed in Tokyo BABYLON and X. After all, Subaru and Seishirou from Tsubasa share the same type of soul as Subaru and Seishirou from Tokyo BABYLON and X.

eriol33 Jun 22, 2006 02:50 PM

ah, you clear the things up. I got some misinterpretation because actually I havent read the translation, I tried to read the japanese conversation with help of dictionary. =/

Spoiler:

And at first place, I really thought Kotori is the one sleeping in that water, and apparantly, it's subaru? Just what happens here?

Tama8-chan Jun 24, 2006 09:36 AM

In Tsubasa Chronicle, Mokona is white, but in xxxHOLiC, she's black.
Are there two of her? Or are they totally different?

Sir VG Jun 24, 2006 09:38 AM

Yes, there are two Mokonas (see S1 E1 to see them both side by side). The white one was sent with the Tsubasa crew to take them from world to world and to detect the feathers. The black one stays behind to allow Yuuko to talk to the Tsubasa crew and to be the gateway of item transport.

Tama8-chan Jun 24, 2006 12:01 PM

Ah ok, that makes sense.

So it seems that Tsubasa Chronicle actually runs alongside xxxHOLiC? It explains why the white Mokona doesn't shop up in xxxHOLiC.
I haven't seen the xxxHOLiC movie, but I checked the cast list, and it says that Syaoran is in it.......
