So within the next hour I need to get as much homework out of the way as possible.

In-game name is kilometers.

EDIT:

Nevermind UK's beta started. US has to wait until midnight. Oh well. I won't have time to play during the week so on Friday I'll get my MGO game on!

I didn't know about the pain in the ass registering system until after the update.
I thought I had freed myself from the long slow download since I didnt see anything of an update but thats becuase i couldnt load the damn user agreement ><!
But now I know what everyone was talking about. Anyways Im already done with everything and Im going to wait till midnight to play it since I dont have work tomorrow.
My game ID is Ani_Zeke

Hey check it out, the game manual is now online. A little reading to kill the time while we all wait.

According to the controls page R3, when aiming (holding L1) is used to switch the angle/side your aiming (much like GRAW). D-pad up/down used for scope magnification in FPV, and left/right for sidestepping in FPV, otherwise its used for chat/preset messages. And the piece I've of info I've been dying to know for the longest time: L2 is used for the sub-weapon fire (eg. Master Key, Grenade Launcher) when aiming. The controls are pretty indepth.

There's also a training mode for the game as well, which I thought is really neat. I might actually jump into that right away instead of a game match.

METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE βONLINE MANUAL - KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS

EDIT:
Also find an interesting piece of info, when checking the Information page of the beta file (in the Game XMB, highlight MGO Beta and press triangle) I noticed it said "Starts 4/16/2008 4:06 PM" and that it was "Created 4/16/2008 6:38 PM". So hey maybe the servers will actually open up early, like 4pm today.

Well at least we know how R2 works for Alt Fire. :p

Sorry over the confusion with the start time as I didn't know the frickin' thing was region restricted. Hopefully then in just over 2 hours time I'll be able to get into the beta....but given the issues that the Japanese and Euro gamers had I probably won't be able get a good crack at it until tomorrow.

Hantei Apr 20, 2008 10:13 PM

Haha, oops, yea R2.

Man, I'll be staying up till 2am waiting to get my first crack at it. Hopefully there's no issues, but if the Konami site is any idication of what's the come then this could go bad. I'm rather surprised Konami wasn't anticipating this kind of turn out for the beta for their most talked about game (well, maybe not MGO, but a taste of MGS4 controls, everyone will jump in on that).

Inhert Apr 21, 2008 12:19 AM

Anyone got a spare code? I really would like to get into the beta :\

I tried to download the European beta but I think they block ip outside of Europe since I can't connect to the server :\

Hantei Apr 21, 2008 01:15 AM

Well this is just perfect:

IMPORTANT NOTICE for all
METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA players

We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.
However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the US public beta test until we are able to stabilize our server.
We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.

We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:
1) Starting date: TBA. We will be making another announcement on 22/4/2008 23:00(PDT)
2) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 11/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT) rather than 06/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT)

IMPORTANT: Please note that your voucher code will only be valid up until 05/06/2008, so please make sure to register them by then.
A TBA starting date, lame. Well, I guess the upside is an extention of the beta to May 11th now.

I'm really tempted to not give it to you now, though, since you're just THAT GOD DAMN OBSERVANT.

Shenlon Apr 21, 2008 09:33 AM

this is such bullcrap. I had a day off today so I was so exited to play and record some gameplay and now this!
hahaha very funny konami, first screwing up by sending incomplete beta codes and now they weren't ready for a huge mgs fanbase ready to play and the day the beta starts.

Hantei Apr 21, 2008 12:23 PM

Well, it looks like we got a new start date, April 25th 12am PDT, and even that's not a solid date. Bleh, what a waste of time this weekend's been.

Shenlon Apr 21, 2008 12:38 PM

this is the first taste of any real mgs4 gameplay before the real games comes out in june and konami just screws everything up. I might not even be free this weekend. Not only that but gta4 is about to come out as well which will decrease my play time. I guess it'll just depend which game I find more entertaining when the time comes.

Kilroy Apr 21, 2008 01:21 PM

"So... D'you think people'll wanna play this game?"
"Nah... Even if a third of the gamers are getting it for free..."
"So I should just use this old server then?"
"Why, yes!"

Just as well. I haven't been able to download that update or get a Konami ID yet.

All in all I'm speechless. I mean I never had a problem getting the patch or setting up a Konami ID but the clusterfuck with the servers just seems inexcusable to me given they've been preparing and promoting this beta test for months. Probably wasn't the best idea to hand out free codes even after giving out the Saga DVDs but out of all the problems I thought I might face with beta, logging in wasn't one of them.

Of course I fully expect the same shit to happen this weekend. Thankfully we finally get the COD4 map pack this Thursday if all else fails...:eye:

Gechmir Apr 21, 2008 09:33 PM

My MGO disk came in the mail today =o However, I heard that the servers won't be up for a few more days. I leave on the 27th, too :( Ah well.

I don't know about Konami IDs or what-not. I guess I need to get started on that stuff? o_o

Strife Apr 21, 2008 11:01 PM

I pre-ordered so I'll be playing the beta as well.

My Game ID is metalgearstrife

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Apr 22, 2008 03:27 PM

Fuck, now I just feel bad. The one extra I had, I hadn't opened until Inhert asked for it.

And it turned out to be one of the misprinted ones with only a half of the code printed.

Sorry dude. I'd give it to you, but it's missing digits and totally invalid. I feel terrible, now.

(I like how this isn't an isolated problem either. Fuck, ball dropped so BAD.)

Inhert Apr 22, 2008 04:02 PM

Oh god yes it worked! I just called Konami support with the misprint code that Skills just gave and they immediately gave me a new one!

So I'm downloading the beta right now and I already did my Konami ID, so I'll see you guys online when the beta starts!

Thanks again Skills!

Yep and fortunately it looks like the ID site has been streamlined to make the process much more easier and painless than before:
https://id.konami.net/

Also for better (or worse) they've removed the beta from the UK PS Store meaning nobody else can download and participate in the beta unless you already grabbed it last weekend, at least in Europe. Probably won't change much but we'll see how things run on Friday....

SouthJag Apr 22, 2008 06:01 PM

Allright, I took care of the Konami ID thingamabob.

eprox1 Apr 22, 2008 09:33 PM

I really don't understand how Konami can say that they were not anticipating the amount of users or level of traffic when, you know, they knew exactly how many codes they gave out. Did they think 3/4's of the people wouldn't bother with the beta or some shit?

Still, it works out because I wouldn't have gotten to participate in the beta AT ALL this week. More playtime for me, I guess.

Thanks for the link, dude.

Hmm. Gamer ID and Konami ID?... My Konami name is "stromwelle". Was gonna use gechmir, but it's one character short =I Haven't use "Stromwelle" since when I played UO... Oi vey.

Hantei Apr 22, 2008 10:02 PM

This is cool, footage of the character creation screen. Heh, we might as well take the time now to visual how we want to design our character, that way we'll waste less time doing come game day. BTW, I'm impressed by how customizable the character's voice is (eg. changing the pitch of the type), didn't expect that. The face models look pretty impressive too, though not too many options there.

Heh, the creation actually turned out to be much more indepth than I was expecting.

No problem! You've just got to mainly remember your game ID and password since it'll be that which you use to login for the beta and also the game ID is used to search for users to add to your friends list but the gamer ID won't be displayed ingame.

Speaking of which I've updated the OP with all of Game IDs posted thus far so it'll make it easier to hook up with fellow GFFers. Also according to the online manual in order to make a clan of your own you need to put in at least 5 hours and be of level 2 or higher so if anyone of us reaches that mark then feel free to create a GFF clan, or whatever title that refers GamingForce...we could come up for one for those interested. The benefits of a GFF clan too is that we don't have to be playing together but the clan roster will keep you updated and let you know who is playing and which lobby they are in should you want to join with a fellow GFF member during play.

Yeah I watched that yesterday and was surprised by how much customisation there was even for the beta. To my knowledge though the full MGO will allow alot more customisation options but still, I couldn't help but think about what I'll be choosing for my character come this weekend.

Shenlon Apr 22, 2008 10:16 PM

oh wow i love the character creation. It's one of the reasons why I spent so much time in city of heroes and the old wwe game. It just gives a more unique feeling than the rest of the other players but then of course you don't want to stand out with brighter colors than the other players and make yourself a target
I can only imagine how much more deeper the creation will be in the final game
Edit: I just noticed that there are only ten of us here who are actually going to play the beta. "the few, the proud, the ones that hope that this will be awesome"

Inhert Apr 23, 2008 03:46 PM

Oh lol now it's my turn XD For anyone interested, I got a spare code for the Us beta lol

Before knowing that I could call directly Konami support, I had email them the partial code that Skills gave me in hope to get another one, but I found out soon after that I could call them and get one faster and I did. Well now, I just got the email and it's not the same code that they gave me on the phone XD

So if anyone is interested in the beta just PM me ;)
