That and the Wretches spawning out of mid-air behind you, although that's only happened to me a couple of times.

Wretches are fine, it's those exploding bastards that are annoying as all hell.

russ Sep 19, 2008 08:18 AM

I liked the lambent wretches. They made things interesting. Especially in co-op when you and your teammate get split up, so that if one of you die, you get game over. Let one lambent wretch get too close and your teammate will start yelling at you.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Sep 19, 2008 07:44 PM

The explosion they leave would kill you instantly on the hardest difficulty. They were fine otherwise, but were the only hard and annoying part on that setting.

Hi Tube.

I see they've still not learned to use a radio and run at the same time but otherwise, it looks pretty awesome. Nice videos.

I pre-ordered my copy yesterday. I'm gonna try to run through this game again on Hardcore difficulty in the next week so I can be primed when it hits shelves.

I had vaguely planned to try and co-op the original Gears with someone, though Skills (who said he was game) has been impressively lame on that front. What with the deluge of new games I don't think that's going to happen now.

russ Oct 29, 2008 09:29 AM

Just solo it on Insane like a man. I'd help with General Raam though, because that part is actually hard on Insane.

If you still want to do that, I'm game to do it, you'll just have to catch me sometime after I get out of work at 7 pm GMT -8.

Dude, I would completely be up for that, however, 7pm your time is insane o'clock my time, so unless we happen to see each other online over a weekend or something I don't see that happening. Shame, because I imagine it'd be lots of fun.

Paco Oct 30, 2008 03:54 AM

How about a morning? I don't work every morning. In fact, I hired a girl to work at our office and I no longer even show up. I can ignore do this job from home. Just let me know when you're up for the task and I'll try to match skills to do this on co-op.

Give me a shout if you see me online and I'll play through some with you mate.

Paco Oct 31, 2008 01:04 AM

Yeah... I couldn't get a hold of Omagnus so I got one of my local boys to play with me on Insane at first but it turns out he sucks more than I do... Hence, we're only doing this on Hardcore. :(

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Oct 31, 2008 03:48 AM

I've only ever actually played through the game once and never played it online (I only bought it a couple of months ago as a mate was bugging me to play it with him) but I didn't think Hardcore was overly difficult once you got the hang of it. My main problem was that as far as shooters go I've predominantly been playing Rainbow all year so I have a habit of shooting someone in the head then moving to the next target which obviously doesn't work in Gears with most of the weapons. There were a couple of spots where we had to reload a few times (Mainly the defending the mansion bit near the end and the mine carts in the powerstation but that's only because my mate for some reason can't hit Lambent Wretches and kept getting killed, in the end I kicked him out of the game and did it on my own then let him back in again). I do plan on playing through on insane at some point though, I'll be interested to see how much harder it is.

Found some of the game's soundtrack (FYI, composed by Steve Jablonsky) on youtube. Sounding really good (retaining some of the Kevin Riepl's themes from GoW), can't wait till the soundtrack is released, I'll most definitely be buying a copy. "Hope Runs Deep" is epic.

So have any of you LE owners had problems downloading your Golden Lancer? For some reason I'm getting a "Can't Download" message. I'm about to call MS and see what's going on.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Nov 8, 2008 01:50 PM

Just keep trying. It didn't work the first couple times I tried, but then I tried a few hours later and it was fine. The tech will say the same thing.

Paco Nov 9, 2008 02:20 AM

Picked up the game today and proceeded to wail on campaign with a buddy today. 5 and a half hours later, I'm convinced that this is pretty much the game that's going to sell 360s this holiday season. I like how the game is actually starting to develop some kind of story construct as opposed to just a reason to go from point A to point B.

I haven't even played Horde but, from what I hear it's the most addictive portion of this game. If my eyes didn't hurt to much, I'd keep going tonight but, goddamn, my TV is awful with the brightness.

WolfDemon Nov 9, 2008 05:55 PM

Just finished campaign last night and holy shit. I've not seen an endgame sequence so epic since the motorcycle escape from MGS3. Did they say a while back that they planned to make a trilogy out of this? Because there are still some loose ends that need to be tied.

Spoiler:
Such as the Locust Queen (Wtf she looks human) and her association with Adam Fenix, and the origin of the Locust, though they are a lot scarier since we know next to nothing about them. Not to mention that transmission from Adam Fenix after the credits. "What have you done?"

Still can't get my Golden Lancer.

Living Legend Nov 9, 2008 11:45 PM

I don't know HOW I got through story mode in this game without it freezing, but beyond storymode I can't do ANYTHING without a "Disc Read Error" alert coming up.

I've been reading on their official message board that it's happening to hundereds of people so...at least can feel depressed as other while I can't play a game I paid 60 dollars for online while others who are my friends are in Xbox live Gears of War two matches :(

FUCK

Gears of War 2: 60 dollars frisbees are now on sale

Paco Nov 11, 2008 12:48 AM

Horde is STUPID addicting and one of the most surprisingly fun modes in this game. It helps a lot, of course, if you gather a team of 4 or more people on Live to play on because once you get to round 20 or so it becomes quite challenging. When you have a barrage of walking tanks closing in on your position with your squad mates grinding their teeth over the headsets you KNOW you got something special going on in this mode.

I believe I will now have nightmares because of the tickers alone.
