I don't really remember how much prom ended up costing me, but I'm glad I went. I went with my best friend (he's a guy), and I think that he ended up spending more than I did because of the tux rental.
Since I have to dress up quite often, I have quite a few formal outfits and I just wore a dress that I hadn't worn before. We went out for Japanese food (because both of us are japanophiles, but my friend doesn't eat the food very often unless he's with my family), and really we didn't plan on actually staying at the prom location; we had already bought tickets to see X-men II, but then decided we were having fun so we forfeited our movie. My friends forced us to dance... but really, Prom framed my high school experience: I only went to one dance when I was a freshman --the first dance of the year, the "Icebreaker" -- with the same guy. And then I went to the last dance of the year as a senior, with him again. So yeah, I'm glad I went. We probably spent about $200 each on it, all told. |
My prom experience can be summed up as fun, but a waste of money. First trouble came when someone waited ONE HOUR for her date to come from some college, and we all waited at this girl's house for the longest time. Then we stayed too long at some ridiculously expensive and terrible restaurant. It was stupid waiting on other people to finish their after dinner coffee (I had no clue why they wanted to order that after our terrible meals) and we ended up going to prom late. Prom itself was more fun than the darn restaurant, and if there was one thing I could change it would be to split from the group and go with my date and another couple alone. Would've saved a lot of time and trouble. Waiting on other people and their dates is inconsiderate on their part. Not really an experience I want to relive.

I have absolutely no idea how much it cost me. I just can't remember. Me and my four best friends got a limo (as did everyone else) and drove down the main party street asking other motorists if they had Grey Poupon. Wore a black on black tux. Took a girl that turned out to be a real bitch. I dont think I talked to her once after grad. Got drunk, screamed Bohemian Rhaspody in the middle of the dance floor in some sort of bizarre drunken huddle with my friends as everyone was clearing out. Went to the after party, got even more drunk, and finally got home at around 7 am.
Good times. |
Our "prom" was the graduating banquet so there wasn't much to it (my school was pretty small with a graduating class of 250 or so). The good thing was that you didn't have to go search for a girl to invite, but the bad thing was that your parents were there. I remember a group of us took the train to the venue and spend 3 hours taking photos in front of the legislative and the river - we almost missed the beginning. Because the place where we went to also catered to businesses, the bar was awesome!!! After the dinner was over, we all got on buses and headed for the national park where (in the school's own words) "anything goes". Though not as pricey ($30.00 subsidized), the tux was super expensive and have not found a use for it since - I guess I should have rented.

Probably the tamest story of them all.
For my Year 12 formal, I asked this girl out who I had a MAJOR crush on. And it was a pity date, more than anything. She was pretty popular at her school, and I was a major geek loser type back then (maybe still am?) My mum drove us to pick her up, and then took us to my friend's house, where he and his date were waiting. He had hired a chauffered car, and so we made our way to the place where our formal was held. When we pulled up, people were all seeing who would step out, and they just went 'oh...' and turned away when we appeared. lol.... I had no idea how to act in these sorta situations, nor had I the balls to. So when other people were makin moves on their dates and dancing slow and stuff like that, we all just stood there talkin out on the main balcony. I wasn't 18 yet, so I couldn't drink. Same with my date. I wasn't allowed to go to the afterparty, and neither was she. There was an afterparty cruise that someone had organised, while others had their own with a smaller group of friends. I heard all the stories the next week....sex, blowjobs, threesomes, drunks, drugs, strippers...... We got back to my friends house, then just went home. I severly wanted to do something with my date afterward. But nothing happened. I didnt even walk her to the door at the end of the night. |
Orignally, I wasn't planning on going to prom. But a friend of mine wanted a friend to tag along with him. So he arranged a blind date for me. Yes, you heard me. Going to prom with a blind date. My date was pretty hot, but that was about it. I took her out to dinner before prom to get to know her. Maybe if we had more time. Either way, I wasn't much of a dancer either so my prom experience was pretty bad. Also, I didn't get to have sex with her (I think I read that more than half the couples lose their virginity on prom night). So ya, prom was horrible, and after that I never saw her again. No matter.

My prom was expensive and lame. I had to pay 50 bucks for my ticket. Good thing the girl that I went with sold magazines or whatever to get a free ticket because it was getting a bit ridiculous of all the stuff I had to pay for. Tux, Flowers, and shit even the gas to drive over to the place.
During the prom I had an alright time in the beginning but then it was getting very old very fast. Thank god for the psuedo-casino that was downstairs I must have speant 2 hours down there (you can bet this fake money that we got and get raffle tickets later to win prizes). The food was pure shit I had to take some rolaids I brought along with me to keep me from throwing it up. There were two times we could leave either at 2 or 5 in the morning. I had enough I wanted to leave at 2 but my bitch of a prom date insisted that we should stay. I got so pissed at that because I was so fucking tired. I think I remember picking up a glass and throwing it against the brick wall. So yeah overall it was pretty fucking lame and a waste of time. |
I rather enjoyed my junior prom. A friend of mine that moved away came down for the weekend on my invitation, so it was just great having her company. I thankfully didn't have to pay the rent on my tuxedo as my parents graciously covered that cost and Tasha and I both covered for our parts in everything. So it wasn't too bad.
As for after-prom, I got a little moody for some of it because the other member of our posse made me out to be a third wheel, but I managed to get over it. There may have been around 200 people stuffed into the bowling alley in Riverton, but that place can take quite the crowd. I didn't go to my senior prom. No one to go with and people weren't too thrilled with my idea of going in costumes. That and other plans couldn't be met. Instead I got to spend it babysitting a bunch of stoners. Meh. |
