3 pts - Kukuru
2 pts - Jackie Chan
1 pts - Corrosion

Pretty straightforward week. Nom bias, but Kukuru has always been a bit of a sleeper hit...It's still some of the only jazz-fusion I listen to nowadays. Scary thing is a I actually remember the Jackie Chan song from renting the game many years ago. And Rotorblade's comments had me prepared for the worst on Corrosion, but it was surprisingly solid, though the build-up was more interesting than the last part(s).

Good sir, your words twist my insides like a soaked towel.

Golfdish from Hell Nov 25, 2007 08:29 PM

Well, specifically the "melody vs beat" and "raver diarrhea" parts. Since I rather liked the melody and didn't think the parts near the end were that bad.

Rotorblade Nov 25, 2007 08:38 PM

I got the raver diarrhea part from Crash, actually. An astute assessment, to be honest. I do take away from the rest of the song with my own analysis, whatever the hell. Gives me an idea of where I want to go on the next nom.

Hold off the tally. Voting in two minutes.

Edit: (3 points) HEADHUNTER REDEMPTION HEADHUNTER Original Soundtrack Recording - Ramirez At Bay

(2 points) Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02

(1 point) Arc the Lad Original Game Sound Track - Kukuru

Drakken Nov 26, 2007 12:08 AM

Will edit shortly with points.

Additional Spam:
3 pts. - Kukuru: By far the best song this week. Feel free to nominate more songs of this nature in the future, Goldfish. :)
1 pt. - Ramirez at Bay:
1 pt. - Stage 4 (Corrosion): It at least held my interest most of the way through. I like the unnatural syncopation at times, and there are some relatively cool parts before the boring section arrives at 2:55.
1 pt. - for Crimson Air: I love the slightly funky part at 0:42. Unfortunately, the rest of the song isn't very appealing. Still, that part is enough to get it one point considering the competition.

The rest:

BGM 02:
Examination of Moonlight: Generally I like light pieces, but this one didn't have much of an effect on me.
Time: I found it pretty boring, honestly.
Ark: Nothing happens. Seriously, it takes 6 minutes for the song to develop into nothing.

I'm extremely surprised by all the love for the Jackie Chan song. It seems like a mildly above average chiptune to me, yet it's getting the most points (or seems to be, anyway). Maybe I should start nominating NES songs if people like them so much. :p

Also, pretty bleh weak.

Was Ramirez Zephyrin's nomination?

I know Jackie Chan was Ed Bellis' pick, so well done there. I think this was Ed's first nomination, so things bode well for him. A few more solid picks from Ed might cause _DH_ and I to feel threatened. :)

(I also like how Chuckster and I picked the eventual winners. Chuckster had more accuracy, though.)

Zeph nominated Ark. Ramirez At Bay was nominated by bishop743.

Good work with your nom, Ed. This means you'll never feel the pain I and a few others have had with nom failures.

Kaleb.G Nov 26, 2007 05:04 AM

I totally forgot to vote this week but i don't think they would have changed anything. I liked that Headhunter track, and Jackie Chan was also good.

I'm pretty sure "Moon Over Castle" has been featured several times in the BSC, in various incarnations; the main melody is still identical.

It's also pretty well-known, so I'm gonna say that it wouldn't meet the obscurity requirements either.

Drakken Nov 26, 2007 11:49 AM

Not like this needs to be said, as this is a pretty obvious case (at least for those who have taken part in past GFF vgm contests), but agreed.

Zephyrin Nov 27, 2007 11:00 AM

I searched the wiki for any such nominations from Gran Tursismo, and Moon over the Castle showed now results. I just rechecked.....nope.

But that is fine. I get the feeling I just don't belong to the "overly obscure" clique, so I won't nominate anymore songs.

Talk about an overreaction. Moon Over the Castle has not been in SotW, thus you wouldn't find it on the Wiki. As Crash said, it's gotten a lot of exposure here by turning up in the annual Best Song Contest several times. That's why it's not eligible for SotW.

I don't know how one potential nomination being deemed too well-known for SotW elicits your reaction in that last line there and your decision not to nominate any more songs.

Liontamer Nov 27, 2007 05:44 PM

Just wasn't feeling the Jackie Chan track whatsoever. Wasn't catchy at all to me; sounded like any number of unmemorable NSFs. Sorry to hate, but glad it didn't win. :-D

Additional Spam:
Oh yeah, also nah on "Moon Over the Castle." Don't care about BSC noms or whatever, but that's not obscure enough IMO.
