Yeah but that's just it. DW6 isn't even as different from the current half-assed 360 DW game at UE3 is from UE2.

Unreal Engine in-game comparisons

Like how about they start with more characters on screen. DW6 will have a maximum of 200 characters on screen. So you know what N3's max was? 1000

Yeah, the only Gamefaqs board I know of that had any sort of tolerance was the CoH/CoV boards. Now that Nintendo's official forum is down, doesn't leave me much of a place to talk about Pokemon.

I don't think they want 1000 characters on screen at one time. Usually you have weapons and items you unlock tied to the number of KOs in a stage in these. That many enemies on the screen at once they'd have to upscale the number of enemies you have to defeat to obtain things, and they probably don't want to mess with the formula they already have figured out for that. N3 also had alot more absurd moves that were more capable of obliterating armies even though you could have that many on screen at once.

Kagosin Oct 22, 2007 05:27 AM

The only problem though Slayer X, in my opinion, N3 felt shorter than DW games (generally because of the sheer amount of characters you could play as). It also had it's flaws as well, such as collision detection on certain bosses. Also, if there was 1000 characters on screen, what would be the point of having the special saying when you kill 1000 characters also? :)

When you also look at the comparison, there's a big change in draw distance, which when people compared between 5 and 6, they thought it was a needed change.

Demon Chaos has up to 60000 characters on screen, and that was on the PS2!
I've never played it though, so I don't know how accurate that figure is.

Aren't they supposedly announcing that game to be released over here in the States later on?

Minor update with a full stage play through (roughly 15 minutes) of Hu Lao Gate with Zhen Ji to get a sense of most of what they've added to the game.

Spoiler:
Lu Bu looks fucked up on the 2nd part, I was right about only certain characters being able to use arrows and either there's very few archer units or the video quality is too shit for me to see them. I like the idea of that unlockable skill tree thing instead of items, the camera seeming a bit more flexible, some more dodging moves and the horses finally not being indestructible; but am I the only one thinking these features should have been included a long time ago?

Kagosin Nov 10, 2007 03:29 PM

Eh. I feel they've been doing ok so far.

DarkMageOzzie Nov 10, 2007 11:24 PM

According to someone on gamefaqs the following characters have been cut from the game.

Jiang Wei
Da Qiao
Zhu Rong
Pang De
Meng Huo
Zuo Ci
Xing Cai

They based this upon the fact that none of the characters are in the art book apparently. No Zhu Rong? Guess I'm not getting it.

SimDaddyGT Nov 11, 2007 02:14 AM

Hold up. Something doesn't seem right about cutting a couple of those.

Da Qiao's still young, and I don't remember her dying yet in the archives' stories, Jiang Wei either. And if I remember correctly, the Nanman group played a vital role towards the end of the war.

Zuo Ci, I can understand, mainly cuz he was an old fart, but a damn skilled one at that.

And why would they take out Xing Cai? Didn't they just put her in DW5? Or was she in something before 4? (that's where I started)

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Nov 11, 2007 03:35 AM

The only person to have any real significance in the novel was Jiang Wei. Everyone else has maybe two or three chapters involving them (and I'm not even sure if Xing Cai was in it).

Zuo Ci was only around for a little while, mainly to taunt Cao Cao and then predict his death after being executed.

The Qiaos have little importance. Honestly, the most important role they played was in reference. Namely, the claim that Cao Cao would take them to a tower he was building specifically for them as his most prized concubines, which was meant to infuriate Zhou Yu and spur him to action prior to Red Cliffs/Chibi. But why are they dumping just one? It seems like they're supposed to be in a pair.

Pang De was only significant for his loyalty to Cao Cao by attempting to bring his own coffin with him when he went to do battle with Guan Yu. Aside from that, all he did was die.

The southern campaign in the novel was just about quelling a small uprising in the southern territories of Shu; not a large-scale invasion Dynasty Warriors portrays it as. Meng Huo was repeatedly captured and eventually gave up, becoming the governor of... wherever it was. Zhu Rong appears very briefly to capture some general and engage in an officer exchange.

Xing Cai only just appeared in Dynasty Warriors 5, yes. Along with Pang De and Zuo Ci (Cao Pi, Ling Tong and Guan Ping all made the cut this time around). She was likely removed because of strongly negative fan reaction and perhaps a lack of battles late into the Three Kingdoms period.

Jiang Wei, however, is a very significant character in the novel. I don't know why they'd remove him, but my only guess is that they have no battles where his presence would make a whole lot of sense. Wu Zhang Plains, which really marks the beginning of Jiang Wei's prominence in Shu, is usually the last battle in Dynasty Warriors games.

kouji Nov 11, 2007 08:53 AM

Well, I am guessing they are saving those removed characters for the latter version, such as 'DW6 Extreme', or 'DW6 Empires', if the history serves right. XD

But it's really a bummer that Koei removed some of the existing characters out of DW6, making it feel like an incomplete game. But regardless, I am going to get this game, when it comes out.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Nov 11, 2007 11:25 AM

Actually, the history says that won't happen. They've never added new characters into the Dynasty Warriors expansions, with the closest thing being Musou modes for Other Forces characters in Xtreme Legends: Dynasty Warriors 3.

DarkMageOzzie Nov 11, 2007 02:34 PM

While that's true, they made it so you had to buy DW5 Extreme Legends to use create an officer. A mode that had been included in the regular version of DW4. Making us pay more to get the full character roster? Sounds like Koei to me. Not to mention they have done it before with the Samurai Warriors Extreme legends.

As for why there is only 1 Qiao. I think it has something to do with the fact that they're alittle obsessed with "no clones" this time.

Some of the stages I've seen, the music's been catchy to friends of mine who were bleh on the games.

Like this one for example with the opening to the stage:

Esh. This topic died out. :(

Monkey King Nov 29, 2007 11:11 AM

So is interest for the series, I'd wager. It doesn't look like Koei is really doing enough with this game to make it anything more than the mass combat version of Madden 2008. At least football games have the excuse of changing rosters; a game based on static historical events has to do a little more than incremental updates to stay fresh.

Slayer X Nov 29, 2007 11:14 AM

BladeStorm was the only game that I was considering playing. Though I can handle the below average graphics, the voiceovers on the other hand are disgustingly bad. So they managed to ruin that one too. Way to go Koei.

S_K Nov 29, 2007 11:30 AM

Agreeing with Monkey Kings post on this one, wishful thinking I've been trying to find footage that at least shows they've improved the popup problem the games suffer from especially on two player, but no luck yet. I'll say what I've said from the beginning with this thread they should stop making minor updates and make a real sequel. By that I mean not doing things like rushing the game out in time for their yearly release when you know they're going to add the rest of the characters as a selling point for the next game. If they keep this up the majority of fans left of the series will just be the hardcore ones :annoyed:
