Internet sleuthing led me to do a Stock Lookup for Best because there's no way a google search would lead me to that logo. I'm going to hope that the building in the picture is the headquarters. Combined with the Sakura trees I'm certain this is Japan so I'm going to guess Fukuoka.

Dullenplain Aug 18, 2007 01:06 AM

The presence of sakura blossoms as well as the presence of Asians in the picture means this is a Japanese city.

Also, I think we should try and not use Wikipedia as the image source, as it can be a bit too easy to deduct answers.

The city in question is Fukuoka.

EDIT: Dammit, late again.

nabhan Aug 18, 2007 01:14 AM

Because the city was confirmed by the picture being on Wikipedia, I'm going to go ahead and post the next picture now. This one should (hopefully) be pretty easy.

Correct answer given by Dullenplain:

Spoiler:
Santiago

Adol Aug 18, 2007 01:17 AM

Fukuoka is correct.

As for the new picture, I'm going to guess Denver, just because of the mountains in the background.

Guru Aug 18, 2007 01:25 AM

Denver isn't that pretty. I'm going to guess Vancouver.

Dullenplain Aug 18, 2007 01:30 AM

The only other mountains I can think of that look that tall and white and could create such a backdrop are the Sierra Nevadas. However, no large city looks like that.

The next best range is the Andes . . . and the best city to create this effect is Santiago, Chile.

nabhan Aug 18, 2007 01:31 AM

Third time's a charm. Santiago is it and Dullenplain posts next.

Dullenplain Aug 18, 2007 01:41 AM

Okay, here we go:

I think this will be rather simple.

correct answer given by Guru:
It is Shenzhen, China

Guru Aug 18, 2007 01:50 AM

Shenzhen, China, right?

OMG SKYSCRAPERPAGE.COM

Dullenplain Aug 18, 2007 01:54 AM

I would assume Shun Hing Square would be a dead giveaway, so go ahead.

Guru Aug 18, 2007 02:06 AM

Ok!

nabhan Aug 18, 2007 02:12 AM

I know it's Sweden or at least Scandinavian because of the Norden building. A google search of the photographer reveals that he is Swedish. That leaves three options: Stockholm Gothenburg and Malmo.

I'm going to guess Stockholm

EDIT: I got it. I'll abstain from revealing the city because two turns is lame and someone else should have an opportunity to go.

Guru Aug 18, 2007 02:14 AM

Close, but... those are just some pinkish-red herrings. xD

Clue: if you can't tell, it's fairly flat here.

Franky Mikey Aug 18, 2007 03:51 AM

Is it Warsaw this time? Because this building looks familiar!

Musharraf Aug 18, 2007 04:28 AM

Yeah, that better looks like the same tower, although the second picture must have been taken like 20 years ago ;)

Also, Shenzhen looks pretty awesome O_O

Syndrome Aug 18, 2007 05:06 AM

Could it be Moscow?

EDIT: Nevermind, face is probably right.

Franky Mikey Aug 18, 2007 05:20 AM

Assuming my guess is correct, I'll put up another city for you guys to ponder.

As guessed by Lord Syphon:
Spoiler:
Brasilia, Brazil

Lord Styphon Aug 18, 2007 05:24 AM

The building way off in the distance and its features suggest to me that this city if Brasilia.

Franky Mikey Aug 18, 2007 05:28 AM

Brasilia is the correct answer!

That city is quite something. Right in the middle of nowhere, the country's capital city. Built in the 1950's if I remember correctly. It feels old-fashionedly futuristic in a way... like those 60's sci-fi movies. Definitely a sight you can't forget, even though there isn't much worthy of interest there.

Lord Styphon Aug 18, 2007 05:46 AM

There was a French movie, called "That Man From Rio" or something like it in English, that eventually ended up in Brasilia. What was fascinating about it was that, since it was a movie from the 1960s, Brasilia was still under construction. Some of the major buildings where there, like the National Congress building (which gave it away for me) and the other buildings around it in the foreground here around it, but the city itself was really just a shell, and was deserted. The residential part in the far background simply wasn't there, and neither was the greenery; it was all just red soil.

It was really cool.

Anyway, on to a new sample.

Going slightly off-topic, but Google has a pic of Brasilia in 1958.

Musharraf Aug 18, 2007 07:09 AM

The city Lord Styphon posted is Gdansk, Poland (formerly Danzig, Deutsches Reich ;)). I know that because my grandfather was born there and I've been there a couple of times. What you can see on the picture is the "famous" medieval port crane (Krantor).

Since I am 100% sure of it, I am executing my "dead to rights" option and post a new, pretty easy picture:

Spoiler:
Prague, Czech Rep.

gulahi Aug 18, 2007 07:44 AM

It certainly looks like Central Europe... I'll go for Budapest.

Musharraf Aug 18, 2007 07:54 AM

No, it's not Budapest, you're pretty close, though ;)

Franky Mikey Aug 18, 2007 08:23 AM

I'm going to guess Prague, because it looks disturbingly similar to this:
