I want Roy to stay. :(

Sin Ansem May 22, 2007 11:07 AM

^Me too. This is tragic, even though I hear the pros/Marth players laughing. :(

Krelian May 22, 2007 02:12 PM

Yasunori Mitsuda?!

Excuse my while I contain my fanboyish EXCITEMENT~. This means a Chrono Trigger or, holy fucking batchrist, maybe even a XENOGEARS character is appearing in the game.

I hope. PLEASE.

edit: Just read the rest of the new posts in the thread. Even if it isn't indicative of who and who isn't appearing in the game, I can dream.

I think you meant to write you want a live orchestra recording since the sample on the website is actually orchestrated.

Yeah, the piece on the website is fully orchestrated...

Now, recorded with real players? Well, a lot of the tracks in Melee were recorded, so I would assume that quite a few of the tracks on THIS version will be recorded as well.

Servbot#42 May 22, 2007 03:58 PM

The music on Super Smash Bros. has always been nice. I am looking forward to hearing the Brawl music after the game comes out.

Melee was fully streamed, but none of it was played by real players. Considering the amount of composers engaged just for arranging music (of which deciding what sounds to use is usually a major part, e.g. look at the premium arrange kind of CDs) I doubt they are all supposed to just move around a couple notes on the staff and then let it all be played by a real orchestra. I expect to see other styles besides orchestral music as well.

Monkey King May 22, 2007 04:25 PM

Well, the soundtrack is going to be interesting, regardless of how the game itself turns out. Divvying up the character themes is going to be tricky, though; I hope the producers are good judges of which composer best suits which song.

I was thinking the same way til I figured that Motoi Sakuraba arranged the menu theme song and not create something of his own =/.

projectg May 22, 2007 08:09 PM

Man, that list of composers is simply amazing. I cannot wait to see what each one of them comes up with for the game. (Be it remixes or entirely original scores).

Izlude May 22, 2007 08:32 PM

Looks fucking awesome so far. I really do hope they keep Zelda in the game, though.

They likely will... in fact given that Link is in his TP appearance, Zelda might also be in HER TP appearance, and they might even throw in Midna in some form. That's just my guess though.

I also heard a rumour that they were going to swap out Kid Link from SSBM with the Cellshaded Link from uh, the gamecube game. The name escapes me at the moment..

Man, it looks like Sheik might sit this one out. They could have Zelda switch with Midna. Oh and I could definitely see them switching Young Link for Link from Wind Waker ("Celda").

Any idea if these new characters will have unique styles or are we just going to see more clones of previous ones? Because, really, do we need another Donkey Kong?

Guru May 22, 2007 10:19 PM

I don't think Donkey Kong had any clones... but there were Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud clones, if memory serves correctly. And then characters with very subtle differences, like Marth/Roy, Pikachu/Pichu.

As far as new characters go, you guys know they haven't dropped all the names yet. They're going to have to save something for just prior to release to get the hype rolling again. Snake was used to get the initial hype going. It'd be pretty weird if he was the only non-Nintendo character in the game.

RacinReaver May 22, 2007 10:32 PM

Well, it was DK-Bowser. It just felt like there were a lot of alternate versions of characters. You know, like Ken/Ryu. I'm hoping more of them have a unique play style than many of the new additions we saw in Melee.

Metal Sphere May 22, 2007 10:37 PM

Well, I'm betting on the clones to be dropped first unless they get their own unique movesets. Maybe Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch are getting the axe?

As for Marth/Roy? Why would they remain, when it looks like we're getting a FE stage and may get characters from the latest titles?

Hmm, Bowser and DK weren't really the same movesets at all. They were both just slow. I know they did feel kind of similar to play because of that.

I'd be more than happy if they did away with clone characters, too, though.

Online play accidentally confirmed?

Each half shows one player's health....odd that they'd edit one image to display each person's health....but.....*shrug*

EDIT: The image was changed....odd. Now it shows both with Link's HP. Grr.

Joe Wiewel May 22, 2007 11:48 PM

Am I the only one that's a little confused by the passage of time in the Battlefield Stage?

I'm pretty sure that they mean it changes in real time according to the Wii's internal clock (It's 11:26 P.M. right now in my time zone, so if I played on that stage, it would be nighttime.) But I also wonder if they'll make the change proportional to how long the matches last. (In a 5-minute or 75-minute match, it goes from dawn to noon to dusk to midnight.)

Well, either way, this is a fresh idea that I'm looking forward to.

Am I the only one that hopes Mr. Game & Watch doesn't get the axe? He's more of Nintendo's original character than Mario and he definitely has a unique moveset. The only characters I wouldn't mind seeing hit the road are Dr. Mario and Pichu. Dr. Mario should have been one of Mario's alternative costumes and Pichu should never have been in the roster in the first place.

By the way, did anybody else miss the character intros (before each battle) that were in the old Super Smash Bros.? I hope they are put back but Sakurai gives a "no comment" on them according to this site somebody posted earlier.

chaofan May 23, 2007 12:37 AM

I also hope they don't axe Mr. Game & Watch, cause he was a riot to play with and added a unique feel o the characters. But from the rumours and "Lost"-like whispers going around on the internet, it looks like he might get the chop. Ice Climbers and Young Link were rumoured to be cut out too.

But whatever. The site did say there'll be daily weekday updates, did it not? We might get some new info in around 1 and a 1/2 hours from this post, presuming it updates the same time the site opened yesterday.

somedude2387 May 23, 2007 07:12 AM

Gah, all they've added today is bios for mario and link. I think this daily update thing will take a while until we get some really new stuff

Darkcomet72 May 23, 2007 11:02 AM

I like the gradual release. It's healthy for keeping hype in check. It will certainly about a week or two before we start seeing new info, but we waited 6 months, we can wait a bit longer.

I'm also glad they actually updated. I was worried the daily weekday update thing was some form of miscommunication.

Free.User May 23, 2007 11:12 AM

Talk of the damage indicators reminded my of something. One thing that really annoyed me was that your characters would sometimes be blocked by the character symbols/damage%. I'm hoping they will fix that somehow, and the easy way would be to have them fade to a transparency whenever they are infront of a character, and revert back to an opaque state once the character moves away.

They did the same thing in the Melee booklet. I wouldn't read anything into it.
