How is it possible that no one is talking about this great piece of anime anymore? Have you guys lost interest or what?

Ep.22 is out, but I haven't seen it yet. I'm waiting for my spanish fansub to watch it.

I'm kinda afraid, you know:
Spoiler:
If Miria dies, I'm gonna shoot myself. Many cool characters have already died (Teresa, Flora, etc.) and I'm getting the feeling that Miria is not gonna make it :(

I haven't been soo hooked to an anime since Elfen Lied. This is definitely good stuff.

Greykin Aug 29, 2007 04:31 PM

lol I talk about it on facebook :P.

Anywho, episode 22 kinda pissed me off, I was looking forward to it, but how it's turning out, it's giving me hints that my favorite part in the manga won't be happening in the anime, perhaps.

Dizzy Aug 29, 2007 04:51 PM

You mean this?:
Spoiler:

I don't know how different is the manga, but I might check it out since this anime became one of my favorite (along with Chrno Crusade & GTO) of all time.

By the way, have you guys seen this?:

I don't like that "line" over her head, but anyways it looks amazing.
Spoiler:
Irene's arm included

Greykin Aug 29, 2007 04:54 PM

Wow, that figure is freaking awesome, where'd you find that?

And it's hard to explain what I'm talking about without spoiling it for you, since I'm riding on assumption ever since:
Spoiler:
Raki left to Pieta with those flashbacks he had of saving Clare

Hx2600 Aug 29, 2007 10:49 PM

hmm...just started watching this anime today after reading this thread, its the first anime that i have actually enjoyed watching and bothered to watch past the first few episodes in a long time (as far as new series go). definitely good stuff.

Dizzy Aug 30, 2007 02:04 AM

Well, I couldn't resist anymore and downloaded Ep.23 from an english fansub..

Spoiler:
No bad news about Miria....yet, which is a good thing for me :><:

About Raki: Is it me or is he much taller and grown up? How much time has it been since they last saw each other?

Greykin: About those pictures, I usually search in forums and japanese sites for fanart and stuff. I hope to see that figure on play-asia soon. I'll try to find info about it.

Episode 23? It's out? > > Or did you get the manga subs?

Dizzy Aug 30, 2007 08:35 PM

Bad typing, sorry. I meant Ep.22

Tecnically, the anime is aired every tuesday, so we'll have to wait a little longer.

Anyways, about the figure, check their official site:

ƒNƒŒƒCƒ‚ƒA

If I'm not mistaken, it will be released on November 2007.
5,775 yens....like $50, right?

Greykin Aug 30, 2007 08:47 PM

Haha, a Claymore shirt. Usually with yen I just add in a decimal place where it would normally be and that would equate to the approximate price. That's too pricey for my blood though D:

Can't wait for episode 23 though, more of the Clare goodness then. They're kind of stretching the battle out though compared to the manga. Raki's moments seem to extend the episodes.

Finalgear Aug 31, 2007 08:27 PM

they are stalling it, thats makes me go crazy =___=

Greykin Sep 8, 2007 09:04 PM

So ya, it's clear that the anime is going to have a made-up ending to finish it at 26 episodes. Though I am VERY disappointed that they took out my favorite scene with, my favorite claymore, Jean, it's sort of nice to have "new" story to follow along though, even though I despise Raki haha.

Dizzy Sep 8, 2007 10:06 PM

I just finished volume 9 of the manga.

Spoiler:
The battle in Pieta is about to begin. So far so good. There aren't many differences between the anime and the manga. I suppose this is when they take different paths. I'll finish the remaining volumes by tomorrow

I have up to volume 12. Is there any fansub dubbing the manga? Or since it was licenced in US no one is dubbing it anymore?

I've also seen Ep.23, which it was pretty good. Obviously every person who has read the manga is disappointed, but anyways it was a decent episode.

Spoiler:
Maybe they are saving Claire's awekening till her battle with Prisila

From my knowledge, that's as far as the manga currently is in Japan :D
It's still running after all.

I honestly stopped watching the anime though, I wasn't impressed with the changes they made. (as you wrote, it seems to be the norm for people who read the manga first)

A good question I'd like to ask the manga readers is whether Raki ever becomes an awesome character. In the anime, he's been made into an idealistic chump whose only sole purpose is to serve as a plot device whether it's to keep Clare from awakening or to hypnotize Priscilla. Other than that, I haven't really seen him do anything useful which brings the question as to why he was put in there in the first place other than the fact that he's in the manga. As it stands, I could see this show taking place without Raki and nothing would really change in terms of plot.

Raki remains pretty much the same in the manga. He doesn't do anything particularly useful outside of buying Clare enough time to reattach her limbs in the Ophelia battle.
Spoiler:
During the Battle of Pieta, he, Isley, and Priscilla never actually head to the city to see what's going on. They hover about and leave when 'all of the lights go out.'

After a seven year time-skip, we still have not seen what's become of Raki. Many speculate that he'll be a badass since he's been training with an Awakened One.

Greykin Sep 12, 2007 10:50 PM

I'm not a fan of where the anime is going compared to the manga, but I have to admit that episode 24 was pretty sweet.

Spoiler:
Yarrr, all the charging up reminded me of DBZ :P

at least they haven't started shooting yuki at each other yet, and they aren't recreating the who has worse constipation scream off yet

Over all, i have really really liked the anime, Up to the last few episodes, its stuck pretty close the the manga, if not quoting it word for word at parts. But i will have to agree with everybody else, on the part that the manga is better. the manga lets us know abit more about things between all baddies.
Spoiler:
Priscilla being strong than Isley, and completely kicking his ass at that one point in the special chapter in the manga, I dont recall it going over that in the anime, if they did, i must have missed it.

and as far as Raki goes, i think it was just some parallelism that they through in there. That is probably the real reason he is there, and he is also a driving reason for Clare to stay alive(besides the obvious, not wanting to die) and for her not to awaken. I would say, the only reason he is there, is because he in a since, keeping her human, so to speak.

Which means that all he does is serve as a plot device. And a character that has no other function in a series other than to serve as a plot device leads to a pretty crappy character. There really is no depth to the anime version of Raki. And that's a damn shame given all the potential that he had to develop into a strong supporting character (which has incidentally been given to the other Claymores).

Any word on whether there'll be a second season? From the way this series is proceeding, I'm expecting it to close out.

I never said he wasn't a crappy under developed character, I was just describing what kinda of plot device I thought he was.
Spoiler:
The part where he does the sword play training with Isley, gave him great potential, they just killed it by making him kinda disappear in the manga, and having him appear when pretty much everybody is of no uses in Pieta anymore

In regards to Raki,

Spoiler:
The author's just building him up for his obvious return. I still don't think he'll be much of a threat as a human, but he might be that Falcon Sword guy's equivalent when he shows up.

Or he'll be Guts from Berserk. Which would fucking win.

Summonmaster Sep 26, 2007 11:47 PM

and thus the greatest (in my incredibly biased opinion) most recent shounen anime has come to end, and there is definitely room for a second season! I'd like to start reading the manga from this point, despite what I've heard about discrepancies in between anime and manga towards the last episodes.

I admit that the end got far too DBZish for me:
Spoiler:
Especially since Clare beat Rigardo. It's as if the only words she could speak from their till the end were "more power!" and "Teresa..." over and over again. Then the last couple of episodes have Clare exchanging unsatisfying flash sword volleys that continuously fail hard.

However the ending is very nice and bittersweet. Strangely made me feel good, despite how terrible it would be to live in the Claymore world. I am in love with Easley for being such a fruitcake and pulling off the standard "I could kill you but I don't feel like it" routine. "It would be...inelegant."

Frankly, I don't see how or why they would just leave it at that, unless it wasn't popular enough to warrant the next season's budget or whatever.

Probably because it'll be all fillers and would suck.

The anime finished not very far from where the manga is and considering that the manga is being released one chapter per week, we'll have to wait for more than a year if we expect the second season to be any good.

About the ending:
Spoiler:
It was mehh, IMO. It obviously didn't have the impact of previous episodes (up to ep20 at least). Clare beating Priscilla without being fully awaken?? Wtf is that?.

Anyways, the ending is not that bad compared to many others animes, but it could have been better. It's still one of my favorites animes.

zzeroparticle Sep 27, 2007 01:38 AM

That last episode was too painful to watch. The show definitely started going downhill after episode 17. Once the showdown began, the consistency and quality just became completely laughable.

My problems with the last episode can be summed up below:

Spoiler:
  • Galatea shows up three times for no apparent reason. She doesn't even conclude the series or advance the plot in any meaningful way.
  • Raki acting really dumb... as usual. Why is he stopping Clare from trying to kill a monster who eats humans! Is he really that stupid?
  • A lot of suspension of disbelief during the battle sequences. (See Dizzy's post)
  • Mirria leaving the group for no apparent reason. If someone can provide me with a good reason why she isn't going to train with Deneve and Helene, I'll concede this point.

I can sort of understand if this was done to preserve a shot at a second season. But if the plan was to create a second season in the first place, why deviate from the manga at all? By all accounts, the manga was pretty decent and everything fits in order. It's when they started deviating from the manga (after episode 17 I think) is when this show started becoming laughable.

=\

Metal Sphere Sep 27, 2007 01:19 PM

Basically, I have to echo zzeroparticle's complaints too and it seems like that's the most common observation. When it started changing things from the manga is when things started coming off the rails.

Dizzy, Claymore's once a month, it just gets rerun every week apparently. AFAIK the author mentioned he'd like to take it to 25 volumes which means we won't see the end of this one for some time. Mirai Nikki's the same way, along with several other manga.

As for Raki?

Spoiler:
Very annoying in the anime, especially those last few episodes. The manga took him off the stage a while back and we've only seen him maybe once or twice since then. Though this is probably a build up to something, considering his companions and whereabouts during the timeskip.

wilflare Oct 6, 2007 10:42 PM

waiting for this month's manga chapter to be out.
hmm. it's kinda disappointing how the anime turned out. hope there's a second season. or a OVA

hmm. the Clare model looks tad bit too shiny. though the extra attachment is kinda amusing. imagine a budget version -arms not included-
