III never got released here so I've not played it but V is a huge improvement over IV. Some of the 108 are pretty tough to recruit, even if you know all of Suikoden's little tricks (As in re-visit every town and dungeon after every event and keep switching obscure members of the team in to your party).

I think that for the next Suikoden game to keep the epic scale of the previous ones, it kinda needs to be set elsewhere in the world and in a different time frame. Huge wars need periods of calm between them really and straight after each game there's a lot of true runes concentrated in one area as a rule.

I live in hope that there'll be an ultimate Suikoden one day that brings all the true rune bearers together (Including Stallion!) for a proper climactic ending. One hopes that the processing power of the PS3 would allow for full 3d large scale battles although from a gameplay and strategy point of view, I prefer a more turn based approach to real time. Something like the Kessen games would be pretty cool though.

'True Holy Rune' is just a mistranslation, it's supposed to be 'godspeed'. Stallion isn't a true rune bearer. :(

That all depends on your definition of "shitty." :p

As for the Yuber/Pesmerga plotline: I believe the creator of the series said their battle will come to a head in the final installment of the series. Which is one way to make sure people buy it....

They also have to reveal the truth about Jeane, Viki, and Leknaat.

Shin: I love V. I think it got all the elements rights. If Konami kept the battle/duel formulas the same--I don't think anyone would mind. Do you?

rpgcrazied Jul 16, 2007 11:16 AM

Hows V?

Been awhile since i played it.. it was a pain to find too.. im getting it from Amazon, since nobody in town has it.

is there not an official site for V? if so, its gone now. :(

Spoiler:
Lyon dieing is a shitty ending for me I liked her

Leknaat Jul 17, 2007 12:59 AM

Like I said...it all depends on your definition of shitty. I actually LIKED that ending....

Evil--I know....

rpgcrazied--V is VERY good. The writers actually lift you up, then crash you into the ground with the story. I'm not going to say much more than that.

And, the endings aren't decided by just the recruiting, but how you behave during the game.

Be Nice
Be a jerk
Be half and half
Don't recruit people
Recruit people

Those also factor in what ending you get.

ctu Jul 17, 2007 06:35 AM

Well I guess I was not nice enough then

rpgcrazied Jul 17, 2007 12:40 PM

I found my old sig.. i need a new suiko V related avatar/sig

whos is good at makin em? :P

Leknaat Jul 18, 2007 12:50 AM

Hey! That's the Kyle Avatar I made! LOL

I'm not very good at making sigs....I just slap things together....

But, isn't there still a sig request thread running around somewhere?

No. Hard Pass. Jul 18, 2007 12:54 AM

I still hold I had one of the most badass Suiko V av/sigs ever. The Georg/Arshtat/Ferid one with the transparent background, and the awesome avatar featuring what's-her-name the ubermage.

Except for the broken characters, V's battle system was spot on. The only thing that let it down compared to II was that it was still too east to collect characters and the plot was a bit predictable but then possibly that's only because I've played so many Suikoden games. Also, the voice acting was horrible. I wish games companies would put in options to turn it off, especially when they use all American actors. Nothing personal to anyone here but American accents don't sit well with me in a fantasy setting. Probably because your country is only 500 odd years old...

Kaelin Jul 18, 2007 04:38 PM

Hehe, I found my old sig as well. It still has my old user name inside it though. But I still love the way it looks! :)

I made my avatar with my not so leet photoshop skills by taking a promo image of the Hero, Georg, and Lyon, and just keeping Lyon. I then found the background through Google images and slapped them together. I like it, but meh it's nothing spectacular.

rpgcrazied Jul 22, 2007 03:12 PM

woot, the person that made my club sig from suiko 2.. made me a nice v sig :)

Thanks guest! Just need a prince avater now

You're welcome! :) I made all the old Suikoden Club Sigs, unfortunately I lost them to a virus last year. :( If anyone still has their old S-Club sig, I'd be happy to make you a new one. Just send me a PM with the old one, and the pics you want me to use for the new one. Or you can just post it here, so no one asks for the same thing.

Leknaat Jul 26, 2007 12:33 AM

Guest wasn't your name before, though, was it?

And, I'm surprised I haven't made a V sig myself...LOL

Well still willing to make new sigs for those who did not have one Before (like me:P)

It was either FATE or Twilight.

Yeah sure, I'll make you one. Just show me the pics you want in it.

Guest (Twilight)--I was wondering what happened to you. Did you play V?

Jujubee Aug 5, 2007 12:20 PM

Well, I'm still playing IV after having it since it came out two years ago. Same with V, still playing that since last year as well. Personally I don't really like IV, but V is nice. It's just that theres 10 other games I'm trying to beat at the same time. Soon it'll be 11 when Persona 3 comes out. =x

Forsety Aug 5, 2007 01:27 PM

I had that problem for awhile too. Eventually you have to realise you have to just tackle them one at a time or you risk never beating them at all. I've been doing that for the last year or so and surprisingly my backlog is actually finally starting to thin out. Heh.

Hachifusa Aug 6, 2007 03:17 PM

I really, really want to play this Suikoden V UNDUB, but I am having a hard time finding out what the hell it is. Can someone please explain?

Try 200+.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Aug 6, 2007 05:04 PM

I have no clue, but "Undub" just sounds like it'd be without English dubbing.

...And a quick Google search informs me that this is almost assuredly the case. English text with the spoken dialogue in Japanese. Basically for Japanophiles.

True. But it was discovered by Columbus in 1492--500+ years ago.

Shin--I understand what you're saying. We've all been brought up with Fairy Tales that originated in Europe, so we tend to think of the voices with those accents. The same can be said for video games. (Wow...Video Games as modern fairy tales....lol)
