Nothing really works for me. If none of the above suggestions work, just try and forget about them, and they'll go away eventually.

What I've found is similar to the suggestion someone made earlier, about stretching upwards.

What I do is to hold my breath, but then I try to expand the diaphragm muscles without exhaling. Think of it this way. You're going to try to burp, but without opening your mouth. Do that for about 15 seconds or so, give or take, and see if that helps.

And then, if you're like me, you'll have to avoid coughing for the next couple of hours or so.

I don't really know what "cures" hiccups but I know it's usually your body adjusting to heat and cold depending on where you are. If you enter a cold place to a warm place, vice versa, and it's more common if you're breathing irragularly or eating/drinking something. Atleast thats what I was taught/learned.

I usually warm/cool myself if I'm not in a comfortable temperture, and try to regulate my breathing, then try drinking something warm/cold. But your body can fix yourself anyway.

I don't think that I have ever had water to help me with hiccups. I find that holding my breath for a little while tends to work, well... most of the time it does.

I've never really had hiccups last for more than a couple minutes. Usually they are a result of eating too fast. So I either drink water or swallow a bunch of air. Tends to clear them right up.

My journalism teacher once said that eating peanut butter cures hiccups. She swears by it.

I always hear about those stories of people who had the hiccups, but they never went away. That's always in the back of my mind when I get them, so I usually try and get rid of them as fast as possible.

I find the best way is to drink milk, I dunno but milk always works with me.

well the longest lasting hiccups on paper I've seen is 60 years, the cause of it is irritation in the diaphragm. So pretty much take care of your throat?

I'm pretty sure your diaphram is down below your lungs. It's what causes you to breathe. Not your throat. :\

Take a deep breath and hold it. Stop doing everything else. You'll actually feel yourself smothering your hiccup. Imagine your getting a pillow and forcing it over the hiccup's face until it's writhing in agony, gasping for air. Then exhale yourself and you're cured, albeit out of breath :)
