I used to think Polly Pocket toys were kinda cool as a kid. I mean the whole fold up clamshell design of the house with the tiny little hot tubs, so cute, you could put one leg of a GI Joe in there then close it to cause a medical emergency. They had the boys version, the Mighty Max command center things, but a shitty fold up clam cave is no match for a clam house. You can't fold a fucking cave, what is this. And the hot tub was replaced with a kung fu gun rack training area or something.

It was a sign. For sure. I should have had a sex change right there and then. Infernal Monkey into Infernal Gertrude McDress Face.

The real question is not whether you liked "girly things" but whether or not that made you feel like a girl. Did you feel closer kinship to other girls than to boys? Did you desire to occupy what society designates as female gender roles?

I'm guessing not.

Infernal Monkey Feb 8, 2007 09:16 AM

No way, girls had girl germs! >=(

Soluzar Feb 8, 2007 09:33 AM

I wonder if anyone warned "Kim" before the operation. Obviously s/he will have girl germs now! =O

Maybe s/he always had them, and that's how they knew!

WHAT?!

Not that I have anything against transgendered people (yes I'm about to say something insensitive) but s(he)'s going to have to either keep this a secret her whole life and hope she can find boys who have never seen a real vagina or she'll never get laid. Ever.

Psychiatrists treating her say she was an ‘exceptional case – a person clearly in the wrong body’, even though the decision to grant her wishes when she was so young is still the subject of intense debate.
How do they know this is an exceptional case?

Yes, but you'd also say that if you saw their taxes.

Well, I am a demon trapped in a man's flesh...I wonder if taxpayers would be willing to give me the 'Beelzebub' treatment?

Nah, don't mind Fox playing with the sentiments of easily angered conservatives. German health insurance is rather thorough and generous, so it's not surprising that the procedures are covered if the doctors deemed them essential for a healthy development of the kid. Public healthcare in Germany might still be flawed, but for different reasons.

Fireman Joe Feb 9, 2007 07:56 AM

Well, that's bizarre to say the least. I once saw something on tv about a similar situation.. I'm not entirely sure where I stand on this topic; perhaps it's good that she got the sex change, perhaps she's incapable of making the decision.. I don't know. These kinds of moral debates always have me tied in knots =P

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 9, 2007 09:11 AM

Well, if that little "broad" feels so sure of herself so be it. Personally as a doctor I wouldn't have done that shit but oh well. Easier for me to shrug this off since it's not my fucked up kid.

I think that it was a desicion that was made to quickly. The thoughts that she has now could change when she gets older. She might find herself quickly dissatisfied with the desicion that she made, then find herself wanting to be a man agian.

I wonder if she ever tried masturbating a few times when he/she had a dick. I mean come on.:tpg: :tpg:

Ya know, I figure that's got to be one major drawback to this whole operation deal. I sincerely doubt that the operation can make s/he as sexually functional as someone who was born a woman... it' does strike me that a person needs to be prepared to sacrifice their sexual nature almost entirely to go through with this.

RABicle Feb 10, 2007 06:20 AM

Toddlers have had sex changes before. This title is misleading. Fox dont research shit.

munchkin13 Feb 10, 2007 10:26 AM

That is extremely shocking. I can't believe a 12 year old could actually make a decision that big. It's nice that the parents have supported him in his decision to become a she. But they've got to have been so unsure.
He must be one brave person to actually go through with it at such a young age. People twice that age who beileve the exact same thing probably havent got the guts to go through with it.
I just hope it works out for her.

dat_kasu Feb 10, 2007 06:36 PM

I saw Kim on TV and she really IS a girl. Her parents told that Kim acted like a girl since she was 2 years old (which is also written in the report you linked at), so the case is clear.
I would have done this, too when I was Kim's mother or father.

The reason why they made the sex-change at this young age was the fact that if you do this before puberty starts, the vocal chords won't grow too much so the voice sounds like a woman's (or kid's) voice and not like a man's.

J-Man Feb 10, 2007 08:22 PM

My Parents names are Kim and Tim.....

:(

Apparently this kid hasn't actually gone under the knife yet. Just had hormonal therapy and various drugs that block testosterone. Since under German law a person cannot undertake sex change surgery until after age 18.

chibilola Feb 15, 2007 12:19 AM

Shouldn't he/she be going through voice change right around 14?

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 15, 2007 12:23 AM

The hormonal drugs should put a damper on that at the least.

gamingdude Feb 20, 2007 04:54 PM

hmm quite interesting.. well as long as the kid is happy now then who cares.
