I always go barefoot in my house, but I think it's mainly out of habit. My mother likes to yell at me about it because she seems to think I'll step on something like a nail and hurt myself. :/

When visiting others, I take my shoes off if there's carpet, or if I think I'll be there for a while.

Shoes off in the house cause it's an Asian thing, but at my dorm it doesn't make much of a difference. I didn't buy the carpet...I mean...

Shoes off. Definitely. In my dorm, I'm more lenient especially since it gets so much traffic and I don't really throw things on the ground and trust it when I pick it up again. Shoes on furniture a huge no, especially my bed. Shoes under my dorm desk is also a no since it's my slipper area. Slippers only.

Its a force of habit. I always take off my shoes as I come in the door. I just go socked feet around the house. As for my own place. I don't care if you take off your shoes or not, I have hard floors(no carpet) so I can just sweep up any dirt. I generally take my shoes, just because it is more comfortable without shoes.

I'd like to start doing this, but because this isn't my house and it isn't something followed here I don't. Maybe one day. I'd even go as far as to wear those Japanese slipper things, thongs, whatever, for reasons of =O
