Well yeah, GFF is offering the platform for this all. That's the way it is. Theoretically, it's illegal, but practically, they would have to shut down bazillions of message boards, so they don't even bother, I guess. Again, I don't know about US law, but I would be surprised if it wasn't illegal.

I dunno if you guys were aware of this but there are like, newspapers where complete strangers deal with very real money every single day. Often the goods are stolen!

HOW WOULD THIS BE ANY DIFFERENT?

Drex Feb 3, 2007 11:38 AM

Because we would be breaking an established norm, because it's the internet, and everyone finds fault, and because it's Gamingforce, and everything here creates drama. I guarantee you something would go wrong enough that we'd want to shut it down, and in short order.

eday_2010 Feb 3, 2007 11:41 AM

The difference would be that you wouldn't have to deal with strangers if you didn't want to. Everyone makes it sound like if there was a thread for this, that everyone would HAVE to use it. It would only be there for those who WANT to use it; if they want to risk losing $10 for a retro copy of Dirty Sanchez, then that is up to them.

Drex Feb 3, 2007 11:57 AM

You don't have to deal with strangers in the newspaper, either. You just have to take longer to scour it for friends.

The thing is, if we were to open a forum for buying/selling/trading, it would most definitely support trading with strangers. Isn't that, at least in part, the point? If you know who you want to sell something to, PM them or put it in your journal.

I'm not against a thread being kept active for this sort of thing, but a forum or subforum is gross overkill. I don't even think there would be enough activity in such a forum to warrant it being around purely based on numbers. There are just too many things speaking against it in my mind.

I don't think anyone's seriously suggesting a forum anymore. Hell, I don't want one. A thread though, sure. I think it'd be fine.

eday_2010 Feb 3, 2007 12:10 PM

When I said forum I meant thread. Geez.

Drex Feb 3, 2007 12:14 PM

Well, then. Hop to it.

This is why this dude is becoming an engineer. Not you guys. Him. Not you.

And you guys had the tenacity to overlook this genius idea of a post?

Wow.

<3 for RR, that was a damned good suggestion if I might say so myself.

A genius is never recognized in his time. :(
