I thought it was pretty funny to see R-Type III released this week despite R-Type coming out just a few weeks ago. You'd think they would add games people are begging for before they start dipping into sequels to games that are already up for download. What's next, the entire Gradius series in order?

Lukage Jan 22, 2007 01:39 PM

Good news and bad news today. Bad news is, we only got 1 game in North America.

Good News?

The Game is::
LINK TO THE MOTHERFUCKING PAST!

Cobalt Katze Jan 22, 2007 01:43 PM

YES :D Perfect timing for me to get a Wii, too.

SuperSonic Jan 22, 2007 02:16 PM

I could live with the Virtual Console coming out with 1 game every week if the games are as good as that. GG, Nintendo!

Slash Jan 22, 2007 08:20 PM

Its moves like this that help nintendo move up in the console wars.

Hell, it was this move that actually restored my faith in Nintendo.

Now give me my MFing Mario Kart

BlueMikey Jan 22, 2007 10:07 PM

When the fuck are they going to start supporting the N64 more? That's the one thing I can't emulate well, I think I might actually buy them from time to time.

K_ Takahashi Jan 23, 2007 12:47 AM

oh shit son....

now heres a game worthy of spending rediculous Wiipoints on.

RABicle Jan 23, 2007 09:16 AM

Fuck yeah sluts. The game will be nothing short of hot sex with the classic controller. They're saving of other all time classics is painful but I suppose if they released say, Super Metroid alongside Lylat Wars, Super Mario Bros 3 and 1080°, the Virtual Console servers would overload and explode.

When are third parties going to really start geting onboard though? Harvest Moon needs to be released RIGHT NOW.

SuperSonic Jan 23, 2007 04:10 PM

I await the day when Goldeneye 007 (N64) comes out on the VC and you are able to play multiplayer online. Until then, I guess the fan-made Source version will have to do.

Sousuke Jan 23, 2007 08:44 PM

HELLS YES. Link to the Past will be visiting my Wii soon.

Now all Nintendo needs to do is release Mario RPG and Super Metroid. As well a few choice N64 titles. Then I'll be happy. :D

Next week your wish shall be granted.

With yesterday’s Virtual Console release of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past from the SNES, the library of downloadable Wii titles grows to 42. Also, next week will see the addition of an all-time favorite, Mario Kart 64.
HELL FRIGGIN' YEAH. Now onto the next step: Making this damn game playable online.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jan 24, 2007 01:53 AM

Damn, still no word on Super Metroid or Star Fox 64. Those are the two I've been waiting on since the beginning. Seeing the Joe & Mac games (especially Joe & Mac 2 for SNES) brought to the VC would also be pretty awesome, but I'm not sure how likely they are.

This week was a bit of a letdown for me since I still have Link to the Past on my SNES, but it was also nice to see NA finally get it.

RABicle Jan 27, 2007 10:47 PM

Lol what's this? MAREIO CART came out on Friday in Australia? AWESOME!

Kostaki Jan 27, 2007 11:46 PM

I would actually spend some points on these games if they had some kind of online playable mechanism where you could play Mario Kart 64 with others. I've had 1000 points literally sitting in my account now since late November with absolutely nothing spent yet.

They really haven't given me a reason to betray emulated versions of these games yet. Especially considering most of the enjoyable Mario Kart 64 tracks are just on Mario Kart DS anyway.

RABicle Jan 28, 2007 06:32 AM

Well here's something. You can't have you and 3 mates sit around the computer playing a Mario Kart 64 emu.

Little Shithead Jan 28, 2007 11:09 AM

You haven't tried very hard then, have you.

(Pro-tip: it's quite easily possible)

Krelian Jan 28, 2007 11:38 AM

Yeah if you order adapters and N64 controllers and fiddle with plugins to the point of setting it up so it'll run accurately NO.

My brother got hooked up with his Wii last week, and he bought Mario Kart yesterday. Supposedly it's awesome fun with friends. You know, like how it was on the N64 and all.

4 USB Gamepads.

Now how hard was that?

Cheezeman3000 Jan 28, 2007 12:51 PM

4 USB gamepads + USB hub (most computers don't have 4 USB slots) + fast enough computer to run the emulator well + finding a good ROM + spyware from the website you downloaded it from + having to hook up your cpu to a TV + all the other technical issues you will get from your computer = NOT worth it! Plus, the cost of it all is ridiculous. Yes, you can download other free ROMS to use with the pads, but if we're just talking about emulation here, then it's not worth it. Now, if you already own the pads, and already have all of this setup, then, you don't have much of a reason to buy Mario Kart 64! This is for the people who prefer convenience over piracy, it's as simple as that.

Not really sure why, but playing N64 games with generic-brand USB controllers isn't really the most appealing thing in the world.

Just pay for the damn game.

mine came with 6 and it's like 3 years old so.

Quote:

everyone has pentium 2's still.

Quote:

finding a good ROM
google doesn't exist.

Quote:

spyware from the website you downloaded it from
spyware doesn't cost money.

Quote:

having to hook up your cpu to a TV
or you could just use, you know, that monitor you're looking at.

People will do neither because Mario Kart 64 is outdated and broken and if you're capable of downloading VC games you're capable of playing DS wifi, which means online Mario Kart DS.

I ran this mess of text through a translator, and you'll be surprised at the results:

Get off your fucking high horse. People here are merely suggesting it's entirely possible to enjoy the game with full multiplayer on an emulator. Yet you come in completely unprovoked with your holier-than-thou bullshit. If you don't want to play emus then that's perfectly fine.

Krelian Jan 28, 2007 03:57 PM

So I'm on the high horse and everyone else is bitching about how it's NOT HARD to JUST FIND SOME USB GAMEPADS because GOD IT'S EASY AND IT'S FREE and WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO PICKY JUST USE AN EMULATOR. I on the other hand am merely suggesting that it's worth it more to take the legit route and playing the game in the way it's intended with minimum hassle, because believe it or not, it's entirely possible to do that and enjoy it too.

Just because it's entirely possible to play it with an emu doesn't mean it's anywhere near as enjoyable, much less authentic. There's something very noncasual about having a friend round for a quick game of MK, forcing an unrecognisable controller into his mitts and parking him in front of my PC.

Go overreact somewhere else.

Well, if you're going to throw in "authentic," then uh, why even play it on virtual console.

BE A REAL MAN or something and get out the original console and cartridge.
