I would also bring to attention the previously suggested prospect of Blast Corps: Delicious Sex.

Whether it's a remake or a true sequel, it would still be wonderful. WiFi co-op world saving, time attack, level creator, turn based tactical game mode with touchscreen planning, vehicle design and a collectable momentary help item in the form of a satellite laser you use by tapping the map for targets. 20-30 second delay, so time it right =o

How come this thread has turned into "Lets list every great game that was on a Nintendo system, ever?"

O.

Elixir Nov 30, 2006 06:54 AM

Well, if we're going to talk about games being made from the bottom up, I'd throw out the suggestion of them (re)making Chakan: The Forever Man for DS. The game is unique, and I'd love to see an a sequel or possibly a remix of the original.

I'd throw MechWarrior 3050 into the loop, simple because it's my most played SNES game of all time. But again I don't think the DS could handle something like that. The DS doesn't do 3D too well.

I'd like to see a direct port of Kirby Superstar from SNES to DS as well. I don't know if it's possible to remake Superstar in any way without withdrawing the feeling of the original game, but the fact is the DS is a portable handheld and there should be more games where you can just pick up and play. Superstar just feels right.

FatsDomino Nov 30, 2006 06:57 AM

I enjoy how I currently think "or" and "are" or the same word. =)

But yeah we suggest great games and great game concepts for the DS because it's obvious we haven't been raped enough by the DS and it's awesometastic selection of great games already. We're all dirty whores and we LIKE IT. Oh baby, yeah!

I just would like to see Rare (and Nintendo and Square) do something good with its old IP for once.

Elixir Nov 30, 2006 07:11 AM

Rare's situation is depressing. They've made great games like Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, Killer Instinct 1 and 2, and so on.

According to the wikipedia article on Rare, most of their key members left during the making of Perfect Dark. I think this is where Rare pretty much ended itself. I haven't seen a decent game made by Rare in a LONG TIME up until recently; Viva Pinata. But last year, PDZ was disappointing. The Banjo sequel looks ridiculous. I think they're a hit-or-miss with games these days.

This is particularly saddening:

He stated that he had "met with some Rare/Microsoft staff" while attending the 2006 Game Developers Conference, who confirmed once and for all that the Virtual Console will not see any Rare-owned licenses. This means that classic Rare titles such as Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, and Banjo-Kazooie (to name a few) may be absent from the download service; GoldenEye 007 has the added problem that the James Bond video game license is held by Activision and would require Activision's, but not Rare's permission to be released on the system. The Donkey Kong games that were developed by Rare remain unaffected, since Nintendo retain the rights to the Donkey Kong series.

However, despite the blog post, Rare or Microsoft have yet to make an official announcement regarding this particular issue.

FatsDomino Nov 30, 2006 08:29 AM

Star Fox 64 was the best Rare game ever. =D

RABicle Nov 30, 2006 08:35 AM

lol Acer.

Do they even have any otehr licenses? What? Grabbed by the Ghoulies? Conker? Lol Rare are a joke.

Since the Virtual Console wouldn't make Perfect Dark playable, we're not missing out on anything.

Rare should just leave the DS alone, I don't want their copy cat filth on it.

Also.

Yeah I thought about this while replying previously, but since the PSP can't even handle Uniracers properly, the DS definitely can't. It's one of those games which uses resources like nothing else. We're talking 5 fps in menus.

Unless they somehow dumb the version down, but it's bound to lose it's charm in the process.
It's not like they can't remake the game for the DS from the ground up. You say it like it's physcially impossible for teh game to run on DS despite the DS outstripping the SNES in terms of, oh, everything.
How it runs on PSP has no bearing.

ramoth Nov 30, 2006 08:37 AM

No official announcement = no official annoucement. Although IGN is super credible rite so no worries ^_^

Anyway, it seems to me that they have finally gotten all their old gamecube games (PDZ, Kameo, etc) out of the pipeline. Hopefully they've replenished their talent pool and can start working on making new, good games. Viva PiƱata looks really good, so hopefully this means things are looking up for Rare.

Have there been any actual gameplay trailers for the new Banjo game? I just remember people seeing some 3D models and going apeshit because Banjo's nose was too big.

Prime Blue Nov 30, 2006 12:24 PM

DS Camera!

I'm still in love with my old GB camera and its features. Just imagine this with more than 56 colors and 23040 pixels. :) Would just be pretty hard to place the lense...

Really? Metroid Prime: Hunters worked great IMO.

Hey, I like that idea. :) It'd be trippy if the cartridge could turn the touch screen into a lens...

...what am I saying.

Are you kidding? It was pixellated to hell. The game's only high point was wifi.

Even the single player mode was mediocre. How it can bare the "Prime" title I'll never understand.

The Wise Vivi Dec 1, 2006 12:05 AM

Hmmm... a game for the DS....

I would have to go with Robotrek. That was an under appreciated game. I have it for SNES emulator but it would be cool to have a sequel or something, even a direct port with a couple of additions would be cool.

Helloween Dec 1, 2006 04:12 PM

Before the crash there was a thread talking about how both Disciples II: Dark Prophecy, and Jagged Alliance by Strategy First were going to be ported to the DS. I haven't heard anything about it for a while, and i'm still looking to this day. It'll be hard to get right, but if they pull it off, it equals instant buy for me.

I like the DS Camera idea, and the Graphin Calculator idea though. I could make good use of all of those.

Point taken. How about Resident Evil: Deadly Silence? Looked like a perfect port to me. Or maybe I need my eyes checked...

Andrew Evenstar Dec 2, 2006 02:34 PM

Chrono Trigger ported with extras, including use of the touch screen :)
FFT w/ extras & use of touch screen :)

chaofan Dec 2, 2006 09:21 PM

Let's see...

We know adventure games world, we know platformers work, we know racing CAN work, we know RPGs can work. We know action can work. Dog caring works. Brain Training works. Music games work....

OH! The good old fighting game.

Yeh, there's Jump Superstars and (shudder) Guilty Gear DS but I'm really interested to see if anyone could make a "true" fighting game with the DS capabilities. Street Fighter/Tekken DS anyone?

ashaman Dec 3, 2006 12:20 AM

Battletoads DS (although Rare's situation has already been discussed here)
Vandal Hearts (wasn't this announced?)
FFT, as already mentioned
Rocket Knight Adventures (double tap enemies to fly into them)

and I could probably go on but I would just end up naming games that loved playing as a kid and not games that would truly utilize the DS's powers

Chaotic Dec 3, 2006 12:53 AM

I was thinking a remake of Super Mario RPG or something... Loved that game to death, but I still never beat it... Thank god for soft-modded XBOXes.

And Street Fighter on the DS would be interesting... Considering that you can finally do a fucking medium attack without hitting L or R while pressing the corresponding button.

It'd suck hardcore.

Fighting games just don't work on handhelds. Look at Guilty Gear Dust Strikers. Look at Street Fighter Alpha MAX 3. The hard punch/kick are always set to the L and R buttons making it awkward as hell to enjoy playing it.

Tekken: Dark Ressurection PSP, is (arguably) the only example of a fighting game done right on a handheld. That's only because it has a 4 button control scheme though. Therefore, I think there should be a new Tekken or Soul Calibur for DS. I know Tekken was done on Advance, but it would at least look a hell of a lot better on the DS.

Torte Dec 3, 2006 06:32 PM

With 3D polygons? It would still look crap on the DS. Plus the clicky d-pad would make movement too hard on the thumb.

What should be made? How about a program to teach Japanese to NON-JAPANESE!

What should be remade? Chrono Trigger! SE did do FF3 after all, so if you're gonna milk the cow, milk all the udders damn it!

Nobody objected to my Resident Evil example. How about Super Mario DS? New Super Mario Bros. is 3D too. (even though it plays like a 2D game)

What's your point? You suggested Street Fighter, which uses a 6 button setup.

And Dark Resurrection is on the PSP, not DS, and it's not like the DS could handle that.
