Oh em gee. A post.

There's something i've noticed when it comes to the wrist straps on the Wii... Why the hell is the connecting string so long?

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/8516/03pb8.jpg

After looking at that, I could probably see why so many of them are breaking off. It's too damn long. If they made it shorter, it would probably have a stronger re-enforcement to it. If not, then maybe STILL make it shorter, then get a better string.

FatsDomino Dec 9, 2006 12:58 AM

Reportedly they are making stronger strap strings for the Wii controllers that come with Wii Play.

Crunchy chesse

Perhaps one of our Australian friends who has bought Wii Play can confirm this for us. =)

Chaotic Dec 9, 2006 01:15 AM

At least it's thicker. It's a start.

Not quite Aussie, but I just took this picture of my motes anyway, one which is the one from Wii Play.

Confirmed.

Wii Play Tanks and Laser Hockey rocks so hard.

Krelian Dec 9, 2006 07:27 AM

I checked out the remotes of a friend who bought a console and Wii Play yesterday - Yes, one remote's strap was thicker than the other.

Infernal Monkey Dec 9, 2006 07:30 AM

Yep, same here. But I don't understand how people are breaking these in the first place. ;_; Stuff like Wii Sports Golf doesn't even let you take massive swings. It's like golf for grandmas!

B4-Hunter Dec 9, 2006 10:30 AM

Phew... I was going to buy Wii instead of X360 but after I saw that I'll pass =D Playing on Wii is dangerous... Put some glue on your hands =D

Chaotic Dec 9, 2006 05:18 PM

Or you could remember to have control playing with the Wii. You're not a sports superstar if you throw the ball in Wii Baseball a 100 mph...

If you've played a Wii with friends, you know it's a lot more fun to do actual motions than just sit there on your ass doing little wrist-flicks. If I'm playing a golf game where I have to mimic the motions of a swing, then I damned better well be able to use my actual golf swing and not have to act like I'm chipping the ball for my drive.

Also, the best stories have to be not of the remote slipping out of peoples' hands (which is just stupid on their part), but the ones that involve injury of actual people. One of my friends camped out for a Wii and got it at a Walmart on launch night and brought it back to a party I was at. By that point most of us were pretty drunk, and while I was playing Wii Tennis with a friend, one of the other girls walked too close and got punched in the face by the girl I was playing with when she tried to do a hard forehand.

The Wrist Strap can now be exchanged for a stronger one.
(Available to Americans only ofcause, as their asses need more kissing, in the past, present and forever.)

Wii Remote Wrist Strap Replacement Request Form

Nintendo is offering to replace the original version of the wrist straps for the Wii Remote with a newer version. Because Wii consoles shipped starting in early December already utilized the newer version of the strap, you will need to determine which version of the strap you have before ordering a replacement. To view the difference between the original and the new version of the strap, please click here.

If you have an original version of the strap, please complete the form below to get a replacement (also, to ensure you continue to have a fun & safe experience, please read our Safety Information for Playing Wii by clicking here).

Once your replacement wrist strap has shipped, you will receive a confirmation email from Nintendo. We expect to begin shipping replacement straps around December 21st. It will take 5 to 9 days for delivery depending on your location. Please do not contact Nintendo regarding your replacement wrist strap until after that time period has passed.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your interest in our products.
Fill out the form HERE, you favored bastards >=[

Kostaki Dec 15, 2006 04:14 AM

Nice. Filled out my form and am expecting my replacements whenever they ship. Good to get this out of the way beforehand lol. Also, you gotta give them credit for getting out there to actually replace them free of charge like this.

I can't say I'll ever have a remote fly out of my hand though, lol.

Phew!

I agree that the human injury is the funniest about the Wii. This is what happens when hordes of extremely clumsy people suddenly start moving! >:O Nintendo's replies to the events has been the best though: "Hold the Wii Remote firmly and do not let go (dipshit)." Gee, really? I never would've thought of that. And the guy with PLENTY OF ROOM is funny too. Look at 'im swing!

I'm getting 4 more. Always needed more of these things for CD players, DS, etc. I can't pass up free accessories! :D

No, it's just available with Wii Play. The controller shipped with the system still has the thin strap (look at my previously postet picture).

Can anyone tell me why the strap issue is allowed to have a sperate thread?

FatsDomino Dec 16, 2006 04:30 AM

Well it's more specified in that it's stating that you can order a better strap from Nintendo for free. If it were this thread then you'd have to scroll a bit. Also this thread's purpose is also for hilarious accidents and stuff. So yeah I'll allow both threads to exist.

Technophile Dec 16, 2006 05:35 AM

I really don't understand how these straps are snapping. I totally go all out with the motions when playing (especially when friends are involved). It's just a lot more fun that way. However, the wiimote's yet to slip outta my hand and snap the strap.

Anyway, I ordered the thicker straps regardless.

FatsDomino Dec 16, 2006 05:50 AM

It only happens when you're trying to destroy the world with your arm flailing and you accidently let go of the Wii controller. As long as you don't play like a moron you should be just fine. I'd advise ordering the free replacement straps anyway, you know, just in case you ever happen to be playing Wii with a moron.

Vampiro Dec 16, 2006 06:01 AM

They snap when people don't use them, chuck the remote against the TV and feel so foolish that they need to blame it on something other than themselves.

This is the conclusion I've come to since I have not snapped my strap yet no matter how hard a whip it around my head or do other super cool moves you see in those fancy Wii commercials.

Chibi Neko Dec 16, 2006 11:17 AM

Kinda like how the lady with the black eye has a big smile.

Vampiro Dec 16, 2006 01:32 PM

In that case she just likes the abuse.

Chibi Neko Dec 16, 2006 07:29 PM

She was probably smiling thinking that she could sue Nintendo and get alot of money.

I heard that black eye was shopped.

maddiee Dec 16, 2006 07:59 PM

yes

i'm having the same problem

Vampiro Dec 17, 2006 08:16 AM

Yes, shopped black eyes certainly are a problem. If only there was a remedy...

Slash Dec 19, 2006 02:39 PM

I gotta say, Nintendo did great with the quick strap recall unlike Microsoft's 2 year long deal before they realized that the power thingies caused fires and stuff.

I sure do feel bad for the chick who got her ass kicked by her b/fs wiimote...but for some reason I couldn't help but laugh for a good amount of time. Probably because if she's that stupid to stay that close, she deserved it...that and who in their right mind would smile if they just got the hell beat of out them?
