Requesting the big favor of converting, maybe cutting the song back from two loops to a single play through and fade out?

Golfdish from Hell Nov 26, 2006 05:29 AM

This turned out rather well: 4 Amazings, 4 not-so-amazings and a lot I know quite well. Which leaves me to make a hard choice...

3 points - Dark City: Yeah, this was the track I thought it was. Maybe the best T's has put out, Dunjia-S and Bosque aside. Freaking amazing.

2 point - Meeting with You: Yeah, this was the track I thought it was. I'm well acquinted with its' variations, but I always skipped the "instrumental" on the OST because I assumed it was karaoke. I prefer the vocal myself, but the guitar lead here does it 99% justice...which is a nice percentage. More Tokimeki songs could use this treatment.

AAAAAND...the tough choice:

Idola gets the last point. This was the EXACT piece I thought it was. I don't know what the hell an 'Idola' is, but I want one for Christmas. Wacked-out orchestra with wicked techno and cool melodies will normally win for me.

SSH gets f*cked and royally: Ultimate Destroyer would have gotten 3 on a normal week.

No "Song of the Weak", but everything else was meh...Supercooled Girl was too much empty techno and kind of reflects my feelings as a whole towards the Granada Espada OST. Sabatal is "light" Iwadare on autopilot and is probably 1:40 longer than it needs to be. Muladhara was the EXACT piece I thought it was and I didn't feel too bad about cutting it off midway...One of Meguro's blandest rock pieces. I wasn't feeling it anywhere near the extent of the others. And Fun in the Sun kinda fizzled early and never came close to having me interested.

And WTF!? Darkcomet is nominating a LEVEL 2 track? Consistancy, hast thou left us!?

NO FUCKING WAY

Damn, one of my all time favorite melodies. I put the SMS version of that track on my BSC list, and I was planning on nominating the arranged version on SEGAAGES some time in the future. <33333333333333333333333

I'm going to vote within the hour, please don't close this yet.

THE POWER OF WATER Nov 26, 2006 06:25 PM

Man, you had really good timing with that, KG. Had the closing post formatted and everything. Just one click away from closing... :(

Heh, cool. I don't have a long standing love of it, but I recently bought the Genesis Collection disc that came out not to long ago and it took only a few minutes of playing for me to adopt it as my next nom.

Kaleb.G Nov 26, 2006 07:39 PM

After going through these tracks with a fine-tooth comb, I feel they're good, but nothing spectacular. Nevertheless, I want to try to get back into voting each week. I feel dirty when I don't get around to it.

3 point(s) :: Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner Soundtrack CD - Muladhara
Absolutely, quality melody wins over all. This song may be slow, and the rock style fairly generic, but there's a great melody underneath it all. That's what I hear, and that's why this track stands above the rest this week.

2 point(s) :: Granado Espada Soundtrack CD - Supercooled Girl
I liked this track from the first time I saw my friend play the Korean beta of this game. The melody is cool, yet also super-repetitive, but that's trance for you. It builds up and provides some variation, so things never stagnate. However, what really keeps this track fresh is the rather unique selection of instruments/samples.

1 point(s) :: Phantasy Star Online Songs of RAGOL Odyssey -Soundtrack EPISODE1&2- - 'IDOLA' have the divine blade
"divine blade" is good, but "immortal feather" is much better. But sticking with the subject, this is still a great song by "objective" standards. I really enjoy the part starting at 1:25 since it provides a lift out of what the melody had previously set into. I was going to give this the shaft, but at the last minute decided I like this track more than "Ultimate Destroyer".

www.ssh.ne.jp - Ultimate Destroyer
The melody is good, but my synth rock bias is what propels this track up the ranks. The rhythm of the electric guitar playing just underneath the synth lead (as well as other nuances) reminds me of "Volt Kraken Stage" from Rockman X5, which is always a good thing. I wish I could place this higher, but the length combined with overall lack of melody that interests me make that impossible. There are enough separate sections to break up the monotony, but they don't interest me as much as the main melody. Also, the guitar improv parts don't even count -- 99% of the time, improv is good for filler and nothing else.

GRANDIA III ~original sound tracks~ - Sabatal
This is a really nice track, but not one of my favorites from the OST, and not good enough to claim points this week.

Tokimeki Memorial 2 ORIGINAL GAME SOUNDTRACK vol. 1 - Meeting With You ~ Happy Ending (Instrumental)
This is a great track, but as much as I want to enjoy it, I can't help but to feel slightly bored. When I first listened to this, before I even noticed the title, I could tell that the whole thing was standard J-pop that had vocals replaced with instruments. The part starting at 3:24 is a great break from routine, but doesn't last long.

Space Station Silicon Valley (Game Rip) - Fun in the Sun
This is a pretty good track with instrumentation that is somewhat interesting. The melody is nice and maintains a nice level of variety, but never captivates me.

Gate of Thunder (Red Book Audio) - Dark City
The only part I like is when the synth lead kicks in; the rest of the melody is boring as piss.

Drakken Nov 26, 2006 11:57 PM

Wow...can't say I'm happy with those results, but then again, I'm often not fond of the winners, so oh well. :p

78 might have to wait until tomorrow morning. I was busy today and need sleep. :-/

arch_slayer Nov 27, 2006 02:20 AM

I really kind of thought that Muladhara was a bid bland... but that's all right with me, the other two votes went for tracks I liked.

KyleDunamis Nov 27, 2006 11:04 AM

95% sure this was nominated in the past, but if it was it happened in between weeks 39 and 48 (in between this list and the wiki voting archives), so I can't check because I don't have the songs with me.

It didn't place, though, so.

Elorin Nov 27, 2006 11:57 AM

CHz is right. "Main Theme" from Battletoads & Double Dragon - The Ultimate Team was nominated before. In Week 42 to be precise.

KyleDunamis Nov 27, 2006 02:50 PM

Damn. Next nom forthcoming.
