All the Targets that I looked up on the search, which may not be completely accurate, and only applies to Destin, Florida either way.

Don't camp out for the Wii, just wake up and get there before they open.

That's what my uncle has me doing...

I'll be in Wal-Mart from 12 pm - 12 am. DS fully charged and ready to go. It's going to be a LONG day.

Did any of you guys have to camp out for a gamecube? On gamecube launch, I casually strolled into Toys R Us after work around 6 or 7pm and they still had plenty. Perhaps there's more hype generated by the Wii. Also, back then the whole reselling deal on eBay wasn't as commonplace as it is now. I'm hoping that they won't be too understocked. Maybe all the kiddies will be tired of camping after ps3 launch, and will just go home.

The last time I had a hard time getting a console was back when N64 launched. I wound up grabbing one at the electronics dept at Sears which for some reason had quite a few in stock. Nobody even realizes that you can buy stuff other than Craftsman tools at Sears these days. If I can't find a Wii at Toys R Us or Wal-Mart, I'll see if Sears can hook me up again.

My mom works at WalMart and also opens on the day of the Wii launch.

So discount + Wii == lollin'.

I don't need to camp this year, I wanted to, just for ::geekery:: but my mom has a discount at WalMart. (10% == almost $28.99 [or something ridic like that] saved)

I just bought Contact and Mario Kart DS and the Battle Royale novel just for this. I'll be at Best Buy tomorrow afternoon. For two days...

I might as well do that, around that time, you happen to know thier policy on "camiping" or, in this case, reasonable loitering?

Dont know what I'm going to do when my DS goes dead, I might bring a power strip and charge it in the case some fgt wont give it up a single power outlet for 45 minutes (or somewhere more than 30 minutes).

I want to drive a little more within the area some < 100 yard radius which is the area in the city that all department stores are carrying this thing to see how many people are camping for this (though the PS3 campers are more worthwhile to see). If my off-top-of-my-head calcluations are correct, there should be around 300+ Wii's just in that tiny location.

It's also a smart idea to check the forecast, even though it isnt correct any of the time, but since I live in the northeast a weather system is on its way but should clear up for saturday (highs 51 F ).

Thats not a bad idea to bring a reading material, its a long read so it should pass the time (not to mention make me feel like my money was well spent seeings how I had the novel for some two years and never finished it  )

Enjoy your pissed off journal entry.

It sucks that I cant get my games in one shot along with my system, I have to wait some 10 hours later when GS opens. At least I can set it up and play WiiSports to configure the calibraton and shiit.

I think they will be as many, they'll exist, but if you want to see an unruly ammount try the PS3 peoples.

Lukage Nov 17, 2006 12:59 PM

After work tonight I'm packing up and heading out to the mall late tomorrow morning. Loitering inside the store for a while there, camping outside shortly after!

Hotobu Nov 17, 2006 01:38 PM

I'm curious as to how necessary it'll be to actually camp out for one with the demand/stock I think one should be able to casually walk into select stores and walk out with one.

the demand is higher than any of the other systems... but there's also alot more availabe at launch than any other... so its a tough call.

majority of demand for the ps3 seemed to be people attempting to resell at profit.

really though, the main question I have is this, if you get the first one on your block, what kind of a prize or life altering effect will it have? I can see that in a job interview now:

"ok Mr. Smith, what qualifications do you have for working here?"

"I was the first one to get a nintendo Wii"

avanent Nov 17, 2006 03:05 PM

although gamefaqs polls aren't the most reliable, there's probably nothing closer to gaming population.

intention of purchasing on release date, w/o preorder:
wii 19.81%
ps3 5.58%

preorders:
wii: 12.48%
ps3: 2.8%

so... itll depend on how many the stores get... little under 4x as many people waiting in line for it, and little over 4x as many people with preorders.

Nintendo definitely has won the next gen launch releases. Total intended eventual ownership is also significantly stronger for the Wii. Hopefully, this will equate in Wii dominating with titles too. Any gaming company not planning on taking advantage of this... needs to re-evaluate their marketing strategies.

long term? nothing. you just get addicted sooner. Out of all the systems, its the only I considered buying at launch (with exception to pondering reselling a ps3). Its the only one with any impressive launch titles, imo. However, my best friend is intent on getting one, so I'll wait a bit. Still planning on finding me a special wii zelda disc though :) cause im a tool for specialness :/
