That aside, while I suppose civ 4 would be ok at first, doesn't it get incredibly slow in the later turns? I mean, my computer's fairly decent, but there are still times at which it takes a while to get through each turn, and not because I'm ordering units around. That's usually solved after my "nuclear blitzkrieg", though. A shame they removed tactical nukes. I loved those things. |
Just shrink the map a bit, and a few less players. That's how I played, even with medium graphics on. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
And I never really liked Civ II... it is definitely my least favorite... :( Sorry. |

Well, in '07, a big game to try would be Jade Empire: SE. It's a port of the highly regarded Xbox title. It's by the same team that is responsible for KOTOR I & II, and the port should be high quality as they have been taking their time and it's listed as a special edition. I know I'm excited for it.
Other than that, you can always check out great games you might have missed. Dungeon Siege is one such title that I keep playing again and again. Day of Defeat or other Source games are great to try. Battle for Middle Earth II is supposed to be an excellent RTS. Just a couple thoughts. |
Try the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War series, you'll love it. Doesn't need a hefty system as well.

Warhammer is only really worth it if you play Winter Assault, and to play that you need the full Dawn of War game.
If you're gonna play any Warhammer you might as well just pick up Dark Crusade, since it has the best Singleplayer and the most races. |

As for that Dive, Dive, Dive part. The mission that makes people shit their pants. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrchciHCI8A |

Unfortunately, be aware in Dark Crusade multiplayer they will restrict you to choosing just the Tau and Necron races, unless you have some of the original games. (DOW to open the four original races, and WA to open up Imperial Guard). So if you like playing it online, you'll probably start pining for the originals to let you play as all the races. Luckily, DOW/WA is being sold as a "gold" collection now and DC is cheap, so I was able to pick up all three games for the same price as a typical new game. |

A lot of strategy games don't require a lot of graphical power. You should be able to play Rise of Nations, Age of Empires, and Civilization well enough. |
Princess Maker 2. Don't let the cutesy title fool you; it's one of the most original and entertaining games you'll ever play.

I was thinking about Ground Control, it's expansion and Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus.
I mean, GC2:OE is pretty good. |
Baldur's Gate and BG II .... older games but goodies. You could also play Morrowind no problem.
|
Ah, thanks to you I jus thought of something. Dungeon Seize... ah that was addictive. (Dungeon Master too)
|
I just got into Neverwinter Nights 1 (about time eh?). I found the main campaign thingie to be boring as hell, so I was about to uninstall it until I remembered how people used to rave about the player-made modules.
So I downloaded a few that people seemed to like, and I must say that some of them are really well-made. It's also just fun to play something created by the community. I'm not sure how demanding the game is, but I think you could run it. It's worth it if you download the mods. |
The main campaign of NWN is boring.
Get the Hordes of Underdark expansion for true DnD Goodness. Also, download this and use it: http://nwnprc.netgamers.co.uk/index.html Dozens of new races, classes and spells |
I can list a few good classics.
Wolfenstein 3-d commander keen (any of them) warcraft should work X-Com intercepter I also suggest the fallout games might and magic as well. 3 and up might not work but. civ 1-3, 3 might not work Duke nukem 1 and 2 doom, it should work and my personal favorite: Jagged alliance: Deadly games |
The original Asheron's Call is apparenlty still going strong. Might be worth checking out.
