I'm sure those who've seen it already will know what scene I'm referring to, but I was praying to God that they would take a break from that insanity, at least just for a minute, so I could start breathing again. Eventually there was a break, but my sides are still hurting.

This is just a guess but are you referring to the:

Spoiler:
Part where they were wrestling naked?

Because I know for a fact that I was rolling during that scene.

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 12:50 AM

I'm looking forward to this, as I heard it just got released in theatres yesterday, and I have quite a few movie vouchers, so I won't mind at all checking this one out. I found Jackass 2 to be a bit over the top for me a few weeks ago as in "live pranks", so hopefully Borat will humor me in a more "clean" way. But I doubt it. ALL IN GOOD HANDS FOR EDUCATING!

I am, indeed. I can't imagine anyone not giving at least some sort of outspoken reaction to the whole thing.

And it's not really like Jackass, aside from that scene in question (unless you're implying that many of the scenes were improvised, which I was wondering myself, or if they were all staged). It has more in common with mockumentaries like Reno 911 (which turns out has a movie of its own coming out, as I just discovered in the attached trailer).

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 01:05 AM

I'm looking forward to more of the reactions on the prankees, rather than any gross out factor. I just want to see to what extremes he goes to, which I read somewhere that.

Spoiler:
He's talking to three women and ask them to lift up their shirt, because their brains are small, so must be their breasts.

Yeah, I'd like to see the reaction to that. And him singing the preverse version of the US National Anthem at the rodeo.

Soldier Nov 5, 2006 01:06 AM

That scene didn't actually happen (although he does mention the part about women's brain sizes). Maybe it'll be in the inevitable "Uncut DVD".

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 01:10 AM

Damn, so it got cut. I saw a youtube link where he's in an animal shelter and asks if the dog "attacks Jews". Damn I laughed. NO NO NO, JESUS CHRIST AND GOD LIKE JEWS, SO THAT CANT BE, or something along those lines, then he inquires about how to cook the dog. LOL. I read this was cut out too =/

Although some of it seems to be staged im sure alot of it is real reactions. I remember a friend of mine telling me he read something about how much trouble they got into while filming.

The Jackass comparion stems from the fact that the movie is him getting real reactions from real people, but instead of eating vomit and skateboarding he exploits peoples racism and stupidity when reacting to a foreigner.

Soldier Nov 5, 2006 01:58 AM

In that case, forget movie of the year. This is movie of the freaking decade.

That guy Borat was talking to when he first entered the Rodeo HAD to be staged. :tpg:

Also, I was unaware that Borat was actually part of the Ali G show (which I've never seen as I don't have HBO). Does the series deliver even half the laughs of this movie?

Not in there either, sorry. :(

I only wish. That guy reminded me of so many rednecks from high school that I was in tears when he said the thing about homosexuals.

twelveeast Nov 5, 2006 02:56 AM

so this movie is actually worth seeing? I was going to go see the will ferrel emma thompson movie instead.

Soldier Nov 5, 2006 02:59 AM

Did you not read how this movie became life threatening to me? :tpg:

That Wil Ferrel movie looked pretty interesting until the trailer revealed every single plot twist.

Yes. The show had a lot of hilarious moments. Especially the ones featuring Borat.

That's what all the trailers do these days...

A BBC article someone posted either in this thread or the journals mentioned that. Apparently that was when the three feminists he was interviewing drew the line and refused to continue.

I'm still torn between seeing this or the new Will Ferrell movie. Both look good, and I'm just not much for finding time and spending the money to go to the movies more than once.

EDIT: Well, Borat apparently isn't playing in any theaters around here. Guess that makes the choice a bit easier.

Elrasiel Nov 10, 2006 05:27 AM

I just put my Review online how you can see in the first post and thinking about seeing it a 2nd time. I wish every mockumentary could be like that!

Zip Nov 11, 2006 02:48 PM

Just got home from the theater. Best comedy in the last 10 years. It's so wrong and just so right. My favorite scene must have been
Spoiler:
One of the last where he is with those Christians, for just one scene Borat is the only normal person there, everyone else are the idiots and they are not faking it like Borat. These moments in the movie was pure genius.

I also fucking love the Pamela scene, i just dont understand how you can even do that, now i understand why she didnt come to the opening.

This is already a classic.

speculative Nov 11, 2006 07:33 PM

The Will Ferrell film will make $300 from people who are trying to get into Borat and mistakenly buy a ticket to the wrong movie. Then, it will be released onto DVD next week and make another $30. Then no one will speak of it again.

Go see Borat.

Living Legend Nov 13, 2006 12:15 AM

Borat was fucking crazy, I loved the movie. I went and saw it with a good friend of mine and pretty much the entire movie we were just laughing our asses off.

Spoiler:
The scene where Borat was in a motorhome (?) of a group of drunken' idiots was just god damn ridiculous. I couldn't tell if that was set up or not because of how stupid the people were acting, but sadly there are many people like that.

The scene where Borat went to a HUGE church and they 'saved' him was ridiculous. I think people at the theater got offended at us because we were laughing so hard at how stupid we thought the chruch people were.

Anyway, great movie. Funny as hell.

Stranger Than Fiction is quite a good film, actually.

Ayos Nov 13, 2006 01:38 AM

I agree. I enjoyed Stranger Than Fiction far more than I thought I would. It's a good role for Will Farrell, and shows a bit of his dramatic side, which comes across very well in the film.

As for Borat, though... I can't wait to see it.

TheKnightOfNee Nov 13, 2006 01:53 AM

I saw Borat last week, it was definitely hysterical. Everyone I saw it with loved it, and the other people I talked to at work loved it. So, reviews around here are pretty good. And it was actually still selling out the largest theaters here on the second weekend, quite surprising.

Roan Nov 13, 2006 01:00 PM

Borat. heh the name cracks me up! I wonder how long it will take for it to reach this country.

Xuren Nov 13, 2006 07:13 PM

I haven't gotten the chance to see it yet =/
My friends who've seen it say it's hilarious and it's definately gotten some good reviews. Can't wait to watch it.

mckstrer1 Nov 13, 2006 09:55 PM

Just so everybody's clear. Cohen isn't a Kazakstani. He's really Jewish. And if you're at all concerned about his racial comments (which no one here seems to care much) He really is making fun of the people who actually believe that crap.

Dopefish Nov 13, 2006 10:14 PM

Sass and I went to see Borat tonight. It was very funny, and I'll let her tell you about her reaction. It won't win any Oscars (which is probably both a good thing and a bad thing) but it certainly was well done.
