In lots of shock and awe Lady Miyomi (?) hasn't posted in here yet.

Manny Biggz Oct 23, 2006 06:28 AM

I'm pissed off that both Best Buy, AND J&R say NOTHING about the PC version. EBgames has it though, and it comes with the soundtrack!

Kimchi Oct 23, 2006 06:29 PM

Screw EB games, I am waiting until Wal-mart gets them. I never liked EB games.
If I go to local EB game store, I still see "Smuggler's Run" for 39.99

Miles Oct 24, 2006 02:30 AM

Well, today is officially the shipping date of the game. Start sniffing around a store near you the next few days to find yourself a copy since most stores will carry them Wednesday or Thursday. Here is a random gameplay video to hold you over: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTa-dnccFCg

Cobalt Katze Oct 24, 2006 03:32 AM

I'm pretty much assured to get my copy on Wednesday, since I have it on order from EB Games with overnight shipping. The kicker will be patiently waiting until then if some store does happen to get copies in tomorrow...

Kalekkan Oct 24, 2006 09:42 PM

That's a pretty awesome vid Miles!

There was a delay in shipping here to FLA... gonna get here on Thursday. See you guys then.

Dr. Uzuki Oct 25, 2006 04:29 AM

I think I have figured out the my PS2 connection problems, so I will be picking up the console version hopefully tomorrow! Probably won't have a chance to play much until Friday, however, but it would definitely be cool to get in on the ground floor with some fellow Gamingforce members.

Manny Biggz Oct 25, 2006 07:57 AM

If you have a good enough PC to run it, I STRONGLY recommend getting that version over the PS2 one. The PS2 one suffers from slowdown when there's a lot of monsters on screen. (which is very often)

Dr. Uzuki Oct 25, 2006 11:21 AM

I was fully intending to until I read the requirements. My processor is outdated, it's a 1.3. What I gathered from talking to my dad some time back who advises me on and installs all my computer components, to upgrade a single part would take updating for most my parts to ensure compatibility. And maybe I really should get around to bulking up this box in the near future, but as for today, I wanna play PSU.

Soldier Oct 25, 2006 01:32 PM

I've got the game in my hands now. I'm working through the registration site (stinks that you can't handle all the billing and stuff in the game like with FFXI) right now, so I'll get back to you.

EDIT: Great, network error (-613). Does this have to do with opening ports?

Miles Oct 25, 2006 01:50 PM

I heard that the US version of the game COMES WITH NO CD KEY. So all you'd really have to do is install the game on your PC using a friends DVD or downloaded copy and register a playsega account and pay the monthly fee. I can't believe Sega would do something this stupid. This will only hurt game sales in the end. =\

Cobalt Katze Oct 25, 2006 01:51 PM

Still waiting on my package to arrive :o Doot do doo... May as well take care of the billing stuff while I wait though.

Para Oct 25, 2006 01:52 PM

Ugh I still need to go out and purchase my copy.

Taco Oct 25, 2006 01:55 PM

I'm installing the game now, just went and picked it up after eating lunch.

I won't have time to play until after my classes today though. :<

This is likely so people can play both PS2 and PC versions with the same account, which I know a few of my friends plan to do.

And, billing is started. Now to just get the game and install/patch!

Does this mean you'd have to play the game on PC, or will this work with the PS2 disc too?

If any of you can help with my problem, please check my thread in Help Desk.

EDIT: Okay, figured it out. I had to set it to DHCP (auto, not manual). But now I have to open up space in my memory card. Hope the end result is worth all this.

The JP version had a CD KEY. It was required to set up your account so even if you had the PC version installed you still couldn't play unless you bought at least one version of the game. But the US version just lets anyone register an account. So as long as you have some sort of copy of the game (downloaded or friends copy) you don't need buy it in order to play. Only have to pay the monthly fee.

Soldier Oct 25, 2006 03:36 PM

This likely won't work with the PS2, though, since it has that DNAS check that's plagued many copied games from going online.

Well, all systems are go. I registered for 30 days (does it have to be renewed each time, or is it automatically renewed until you say so?), created a character, and went as far as the tutorial. Things are looking good so far. This whole game runs circles around FFXI in terms of shortcuts (checkpoints in dungeons=brilliant). I love the little chat boxes too.

Right now I have to start painting my room, but I'll be on later. Hope to meet up with some of you so we can learn the ropes together. Although I never played anything from the PS series, I decided to choose a name with a bit of reference, so let's see if people notice.

Name: Darius Forge
Class: Human
Job: Hunter (for now)

Catch you later.

BIGWORM Oct 25, 2006 04:11 PM

There isn't by chance a free trial with this like BB is there? =/

Dr. Uzuki Oct 25, 2006 04:11 PM

Name - Uzuki
Race - Numan
Job - Force

Got in a group and did a mission. Good stuff so far. The not being able to chat freely thing might be a problem, may need to look into a PS2 keyboard. I stood in the middle of the ground floor and said, "HOW DO I SHOT WEB?" which resulted in from other players, "Sup /b," and, "All /brothers meet at the fountain." Thought that was kinda funny.

Will be playing more on the weekend.

Soldier Oct 25, 2006 04:20 PM

Yeah, the logitech keyboard controller is just as handy here as in FFXI. I also joined a PT with 2 other people, but they were ahead of me, and I had no idea how to check their location. I eventually caught up, but they weren't the chatting type apparently. After we finished, the leader chose another mission but I wasn't allowed to enter (guess I needed a prerequisate).

Only thing that bugs me so far is the draw distance in the lobbies. Characters are grey shades far away, making them look like ghosts or something. Takes a few seconds before they actually appear. I've seen some cool outfits and robot parts though. There's a lot to learn, but I'm sure it won't take nearly as long as FFXI did.

BIGWORM Oct 25, 2006 04:30 PM

From what I can tell from the JP version I played a while back, I'm DAMN glad I don't have to feed f'in MAGS anymore. Giving them my Trimates and Trifluids were maddening!!!

Manny Biggz Oct 25, 2006 04:59 PM

The game just patched 4 times in a row for me, and it's doing it now for a fifth time. I got the PC version. Is this supposed to happen?

Tortalius Oct 25, 2006 05:25 PM

Well if I don't needa CD key, could Someone direct me to a D/L of it? I'd like to give it a shot, AND save money. :)

Miles Oct 25, 2006 05:37 PM

I'm online now. If anyone wants to trade cards with me I'll be on AIM. Send me a message and we can meet up.
