Look for regional and language options in your control panel. Visit this tab and change it to Japanese. You might need the windows CD to install the files. Then you'll have to reboot. Now the Japanese should display correctly and the game won't crash anymore.

Yes. This game surely rocks. Took me a couple minutes to remap my gamepad (Super Joy Box 5 Pro with a PS2 controller) but this game really is fantastic. I do hope they bring it here to the states or maybe see some sort of translation to it.

Oh, it'll be in English for sure. Deuce already said he was going to translate it with NightWolve. We may not see it for awhile, but it'll be in English at some point during our lifetime.

That'd be great. Maybe by then I'll have Adol unlocked. Not sure how he's apart of this game since it's before his time but we'll see. Guess it's just fanfare.

Sounds good. Is there an official website with status updates for this translation?

Miles Jan 7, 2007 05:27 PM

It hasn't even started yet. Deuce is working on Ys 4 and 5 right now from what I've heard. He'll probably start translating the Ys Origin script after his other two projects are done.

I'm disappointed in the performance oddities here.

Basically, the game seems to flucuate between 59-60 fps constantly and, with v-sync, ends up skipping a frame every few seconds. So, it moves smoothly, but after those few seconds, you get a quick skip in the scrolling. Nothing to do with requirements or anything like that either (my PC is much faster than what this game needs). The support program did nothing either, unfortunately.

The game also seems to lack resolutions. YsF offered all sorts of resolutions, so despite being a 4:3 game, I could set it to a 16:9 resolution for my TV. Origin is limited to 4:3 resolutions (so was ED6-SC). Very disappointing.

Miles Jan 8, 2007 01:13 AM

This one lacks 16:9? I won't bother installing this on my laptop then. =\

I don't see why they couldn't do it. I think the game pretty much uses the same engine YsF used. Maybe Falcom will include it in a patch sometime in the near future. By the way, are you the same dark1x from GAF?

Have you tried different frame skip options in the configuration tool?

Yeah. It actually does have an effect on it, but nothing positive. I've fiddled with the options to death.

This problem occurs on two different PCs as well. :(

Yep.

I started playing with fraps to record gameplay video of Ys. This one is of my favorite boss fight so far.

YouTube Video

I need to figure out how to make it higher quality. It did a good job at shrinking the filesize really low but I know I can get the video quality better. I'll try recording the next boss I fight.

Wow~

The music is great, as expected. Any chance of an OST on the horizon? =U

That reminds me of a certain DMC3 fight ;) Ah, see that you selected....uh...the guy. lol. I chose the girl for my first run.

Miles Jan 10, 2007 09:24 PM

Yes. I picked Hugo first since he shoots projectiles. Yunica uses the same melee style found in the last two Ys games.

Another boss fight as Hugo. I think I level up too much which makes these bosses ridiculously easy. Maybe I should have played hard mode instead of normal. :3

did anyone try Adol?
