Might this be based on the manga? There's a story set before the third game where Dante has to save a little girl named Alice from a bunch of Wonderland-inspired demons, right? The trailer shows a little girl, so maybe it's one and the same.

The anime doesn't come out until some time in June.

How the hell could a RAW be out if the anime itself isn't out yet? Pime Taradox.

Thats just funny how they are going to release a anime with DMC as Dante as the main char (I think Dante is fucking awesome) but looks like in DMC4 they are gonna kill him...Be a bit distracting to people playing DMC4 and thinking of watching the series.

Cirno Apr 17, 2007 03:18 PM

They can't kill Dante off. He's too popular a character and Capcom probably won't have the balls to do this. Though they officially said that Nero was not Vergil, another really popular character thanks largely to DMC3's portrayal, I can only see the new 'lead' of DMC4 being Dante's brother in some form. The somewhat blue clothing, white hair, and the use of a revolver (though Vergil didn't like guns, it's the only kind of gun I can picture him using).

Probably but Japanese are so hard to predict when it comes down to endings, usually they go one way and then *BAM* everything went the other way. I mean to boot its Capcom look at RE series and Onimusha the endings were a bit weird and not what anyone expected.

That's.... pretty damn hot.

WolfDemon May 30, 2007 12:11 PM

Ha! That sword is just ridiculous. I don't think it was anywhere near that massive in the games. Hopefully it's not like that in the final product.

captain_eddy May 30, 2007 03:47 PM

Well it doenst really look like the sword is on his back but more an backgrond element since there is no strap to hold the sword.

Hantei Jun 2, 2007 04:38 PM

Raw version of episode/mission 1 is out now, kinda weird as I thought the show wasn't supposed to start airing till June 14th.

@Hantei:
I need subtitle for English if you have.

Ozma Jun 4, 2007 02:09 AM

Which sequel of DMC is this anime based on anyway?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 4, 2007 04:30 AM

It's not about any of the games, but it seems to be in the timeframe of 3 and 1.

After what seemed like a fairly promising opening (no Dante-humor was my main complaint), the rest of the episode just got progressively worse. If the second or third episode doesn't show signs of improvement, I'll probably just ignore this series.

Kairi Li Jun 4, 2007 07:22 AM

Can you elaborate Generic Badass? I like to know more, I don't watch raws much and rather see what other people think first.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 4, 2007 12:26 PM

They spent way more time making sure there was about 372 gallons of blood spraying out during each fight than giving Dante any depth or showing his melee skills (he only uses Force Edge in the opening fight and the very last, and only very briefly). He spends the majority of his time being a total hardass, so you are reminded more of the Devil May Cry 2 Dante than anything else.

For me, I wanted this to be about how Dante goes from a complete jokester who occasionally messes something up when he tries to act cool (broken jukebox, sneezing and making his office collapse) in 3 to the calmer, more skilled one who still has a good sense of humor in the original.

hikarub Jun 4, 2007 10:39 PM

Didn't he use High Time and Juggle as well? Well, I agree that Dante's attitude was a little off of what I had expected. He was totally the invincible hero here . I was also expecting a little slapstick here and there. Well, I guess we'll see how the later episodes play out before making any real decisions about whether or not to continue watching the series.

Was this episode a preview of some sort? The end still gave show details and a date: June 14th.

Cirno Jun 5, 2007 08:53 AM

Erm, I dunno about some of you guys, but I really enjoyed the first episode. While Dante wasn't exactly prancing about joking like he typically did in the (good) games, he still felt recognizable. Hopefully he'll loosen up some and joke around a bit more in episode 2.

My only concern about this show was whether or not the action would be fluid, stylized, and well-choreographed. All three concerns were silenced as the episode progressed. There were also plenty of elements of humor, especially in the second to last fight at the opera house. While it's too early to judge the series as positive or negative, it has plenty of potential to get better. So far, it's main weakness is a less-than-jovial Dante, which still has room for development.

Dave1988 Jun 5, 2007 03:40 PM

I Found the episode too generic to lebel it as DMC worthy. Too much so-so shooting sequences and not enough Rebellion usage. It's not bad but it could've been a LOT better.

Hantei Jun 16, 2007 04:48 AM

Well the first episode officially aired 2 days ago. From the quick glances I took it looks identical to the premiere episode at the beginning of month, though, I never really did watch the whole premiere one. Anyway looks like Lady will be making an appearance in the next episode/Mission: Highway Stars.

To the raw version.

Does anyone know which groups out there are subbing the series, and which group is the one to follow? Heh, it's been a long time since I've followed any anime series.

BTW, check out WOWOW's DMC website. You can find a nice profile pic of Trish and Lady on the characters page.

Well, Kuro-Hana & NEET Fansubs have released the first episode. I haven't seen it yet so I can't comment on the quality, but at least someone picked it up.

Well, a couple of days ago episode 2: Highway Star was released. Lady makes an appearance and it seems Dante is majorly annoyed with her (probably because he owes her so much money). She ropes him into a job involving motorcyle racers when he loses a bet against her (seriously, his luck sucks when it comes to silly gambling).

Why is Patty still around? I was hoping we would be rid of her after episode 1...

I watched ACG's sub for episode 2, as Kuro-Hana & NEET failed to release their version (I heard NEET dropped out or something). AnimeOne & Conclave have joined forces for this series and have also released episodes 1 and 2.

Kairi Li Jul 2, 2007 03:59 AM

So far, is it worth watching it? Especiallly if you're a fan of DMC and stuff?

Cirno Jul 3, 2007 02:01 PM

It's hard to say. I love DMC and was really gung-ho about the series, but episode two was just plain disappointing. Lady's introduction was kind of cool, but the action feels stilted and uninspired 90% of the time. Episode 1 had a nice introduction with Dante, but these 'monsters of the week' deals are annoying.

The OP, which for whatever reason ends up playing somewhere in the episode(s), is irritating too. Feels like a cheap, cliche opening theme.

I'm still going to check up on a few more episodes before passing judgement, but it's on the back burner for now.

hikarub Jul 4, 2007 03:24 AM

Well......I thought it was kind of okay. The animation is clear and crisp though you may realize the story is pretty much non-existant (I mean, it doesn't seem to be following any plot at the moment, it's just one job here and one job there for Dante). But, maybe everything ties in a little bit later.

The action was pretty good in the first episode, though there were times I wasn't sure what exactly happened after the dust settles (kind'a like when I play the games. No matter how good or skilled you are, there will always come a time when you throw strategy out the window and settle for insane button-mashing, and then wonder how the hell you managed to get through all that in the end. I kind of feel like that :p ). But I have to agree the action in episode 2 was kind of meh...

I thought the music was okay, and the OP in episode 2 shows Dante, Trish and Lady killing all manner of demons so I'm still psyched about the show. I'm still waiting to see Trish's appearance in the series and what her relationship to Dante is as well....
Spoiler:
....since at the end of the first game, they were supposed to be partners (and Dante had renamed his business Devil Never Cry). Since his business is still called Devil May Cry, does this show take place after the game "Devil May Cry 3" but before the original?

Well, the anime got me interested in getting these again:

Too bad it's only a kit and have to paint them yourselves...
