So was anyone surprised?

Soldier Sep 23, 2006 05:26 PM

Did they finish their show yet? I have no idea what TGS's remaining schedule is, other than Capcom giving their presentation later tonight.

Surprised about what? I've been scouring the web and haven't found out what the big surprise is (although Nissay's comment bummed me out, I was kind of hoping it would be an FF7 remake [hey, better than a sequal. It would take a whole hell of a lot to fudge up a remake, and the PS3 would do FF7 the justice it deserves...that's just my opinion]).

If there had been one, I think you'd have heard about it by now.

...Then what was that about? Sorry for my stupidness :/

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 24, 2006 12:32 AM

He was asking in general; not alluding to something specific.

Soldier Sep 24, 2006 12:44 AM

Did they even say there was going to be a surprise?

Err, although my opinion has a lot more tact than his, I have to agree. FF7 has been in circulation for years, just buy the original o_o. If they remade it on the PS3, it wont have PS3 graphics. Move on people, there is better RPGs out there that need sales @_@.

Slayer X Sep 24, 2006 04:07 PM

Uhhhhh... no there arn't. Nothing new at least. The only one that I would tell people to run out and get right now would be Disgaea 2... SO GO GET IT!!!

As for Square's big announcement. There wasn't one. But they got you to pay attention to their E3 reinactment with that thought now didn't they.

Only new thing I heard was FFVII: Advent Children Complete (director's cut) on Blu-Ray.

That was probably the surprise (heh, though really shouldn't be). IGN mentioned that they showed one of the new scenes, which "was Sephiroth impaling Cloud and hoisting him over his head while his Masamune was still embedded inside of him."

I feel like saying 'Are you got kidding me' but this is no surprise. Seems like every year now Square is working on the same thing. Here we have yet another rehash, why can't Square get shit done right the first time? Not just Square but other companies too, like Konami and Capcom. All these Final Mixes, Last Missions, Substances, Side Stories, and Special Editions are just stir fried garbage to get people to buy the same game again. But Square is the most notorious, rereleasing a movie that failed as a sequel anyway. I bet they planned all this from the start, 'Hey, lets sell them the prototype first then release a deluxe edition later so they'll have to buy it again.' What a cheap way to make money, shameless bastards.

For the record, Advent Children should have been a LotR calibur movie, not some 1 hour action flick.

Slayer X Sep 24, 2006 08:04 PM

If I had to choose between how Advent Children is and a similar project with some sappy filler, I'd choose SC hands down. Sometimes things are better then you think when you consider how it could have turned out.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just trying to shine a different colour light on the situation.

Sqaure does it cause of the damn bankruptcy and the fact that since Movie DVDs can pull the special edition crap, so can they, cause they know Japanese fans will eat it up.

And special edition can be worth buying a game again if done right, like Final Mix for KH2, we get a friggin PS2 remake of COM along with other stuff. That's a extra game right there for people who dont have GBAs for COM. If AC has enough new footage it may be worth it, though from the looks of it that is DONE for more cash in, cause unlike live action movies, animation is usually never deleted after the animation is done, they do it during story boarding. The fact they are going this far shows they just want more moolah from crazy FF7 fans.

Slayer X Sep 24, 2006 08:53 PM

When was the last time that a company did anything for the people and not money?

Never. Just because they're doing a remake though, obviously for money, it could also mean that they're doing it because they think it could have been done better the first time around. Also the Complete version is only going to be on Blu-Ray, so it's not like they're trying to replace the dvd, they're just trying to make it worth while purchasing the Blu-Ray version, instead of just throwing the same footage out and having absolutely NO reason to pick it up if you already have it on DVD.

I'm the one complaining about how most of these don't come here. I like FFX-2 a lot, but if the Int version had came out here i wouldn't be able to shut up about it. Arena? More jobs? A job class i can actually care about? yes please.

I don't care so much that they make the game again. I liked it, why not get it again with more stuff? No, i'm pissed at square for taking so long to make original material. But i can't blame remixes and such, they're not exactly huge timewasters to make.

Oh, by the way, capcom. If you assholes don't mention a breath of fire 6 in the next 3 months, there won't be a capcom in 2007 IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

Kostaki Sep 26, 2006 11:55 PM

The surprise was there was no surprise! SURPRISED?!

I wouldn't mind me some FFX-2 International too. Everyone calls it corny and cheesy though, so it won't happen. We can't have giddy female leads in games now can we?

I will second your cry for Breath of Fire VI, but I will also add that it better make Nina hot again. If she's ugly or a child again, I will riot. This is non-negotiable.

Technophile Sep 27, 2006 01:36 AM

Well that was pretty weak. I was also hoping for a new IP, Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts, and...a full fledged, beefed up remake of FFVII for the PS3 and/or 360 & Wii. Everyone would totally eat it up and you know it.

Psh, I'd mount any of the Breath of Fire Ninas.

Camelot Software Planning's Shining Force III Premium Disc for the Sega Saturn. They are STILL giving it away after all these years if you specifically contact them and can provide the proofs of purchase for all three Shining Force III scenarios. Shining Force III came out over eight years ago.

Also, Sega of America's translation of Shining Force III: Scenario 1 and Panzer Dragoon Saga. Most Saturn fans, including myself, bitched Sega out for only giving us one scenario of Shining Force III, but we're lucky we got even that. Sega of Japan ordered the US division to scrap the Saturn and start focusing on preparing for Dreamcast (hence the Stolar announcement that "Saturn is not our future" back in E3 1997). Instead, Sega of America gave the hardcore fans a few more key games shipped in extremely limited quantities (read: not even 10,000 copies pressed for each) before pulling the plug.

Any of the other previous titles I suggested would have also been damn nice, but I guess overall this showing from them was set to be a dissapointment. =/

P-P-PARN!! *Claps his hands like an idiot in full on chibi form*

I would have fucking killed for the other two scenarios for the Saturn. The third one just doesn't live up to the second without a full set of three.

Parn Sep 27, 2006 04:54 PM

I hear you on that one. On the positive side of things, the fan translation of scenarios 2 and 3 is progressing smoothly.

I know, but it just isn't the same. I wanted a nice release with pretty boxart and nice extras. Like let Vic Ireland's new company take a hack at it. Bring us scenario 2 and 3, and then Dragon Force 2. That would make me happy.
