Not sure since I haven't seen that part in the anime (still waiting on Hitoribochi's subs) but I'd guess that that is KoGoRo from Keroro Gunsou? The pic in the manga isn't at all like that, but I thought I would have a guess since it's the first thing that popped into my head.

It's not Keroro Gunsou. It's a 12 TV series that's also licensed by The Right Stuf. One of the characters is voiced by the wonderful Norio Wakamoto.

uh......Armor Hunter Mellowlink, Eat-Man `98, Guyver, Legend of Himiko, and Ninja Nonsense, are the only 12 episodes anime he is in...and of those...Ninja Nonsense is the only once licenesed by The Right Stuf...so Ninja Nonsense as so called 2x2 = Shinobuden will be my guess!

For some reason this makes me think of Orphen, even though I haven't even seen the series. It probably isn't though, the sword is too small.

Orphen, thats a negative...i have never seen Orphen before...thought, if i recall, i dont believe this series is licenced yet....and remeber, that you need to POST WHAT YOU THINK IT IS, otherwise i cant post hints!

A hint or preferably a second screen would indeed be nice. I've not seen enough of sword & sorcery anime to know what that is out of the blue :(

I know this is totally wrong, but I'm gonna guess Blue Seed. The animation kinda reminds me of it, but I don't remember seeing any of that stuff in the first episode (or any of the episodes I saw for that matter).

Sorry, no dices, I will say the vintage of the 2 animes is about the same, so that might be the reason why the animation looks similar..but tisnot...i will be nice and give ANOTHER picture, this time, from the opening scene, that is there for several seconds

Nope, both guesses are wrong, as this is older than both of those. Here's a hint: Yoshitaka Amano is involved with this. I'll try to put up another pic a little later if no one gets it.
