I would like to hear opinions about the newest single of Blind Guardian: Fly.
|
I'm looking forward to Green Carnation's concert that's coming up around spring break (two weeks from now). It's at 1am, but it should be a good show.

John Petrucci wasn't quite as in your face as the other two sets, but he deffinetly seemed more technical, and i felt that his songs had more thought put into them. I've always liked his song writing, be it with Dream Theater, Liquid Tension, or his solo stuff, and G3 didn't disapoint. G3 is also the reason i like Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani today. |
I went to G3 last time it came to Vancouver, and man, what a show. Satriani was his usual self, rockin' for a few songs but then beginning to sound repetitive. Vai absolutely blew me away. Not just the music but man, what a showman. It was unlike any show I've ever been to before. Yngwie, on the other hand, was pretty bad. Sure he can play a million notes in a second, but he still adamantly uses his thirty year old Martial stacks which sound like total garbage at that volume. It was almost painful to listen to.
The most disappointing thing about Yngwie is that a lot of my favorite stuff of his is where he slows it down and throws in some rad acoustic melodies here and there, 'cause all the arpeggiating starts to sound the same after a while, but, of course, that's what he focused on. The end of the show was rad when the three of them were jamming together, but again Yngwie proved how one-dimensional a musician he is, and just played scales overtop of Vai and Satriani, who were actually sound really awesome rocking out together. Aside from Yngwie, the show was fantastic. |
Besides, Yngwie's always been a bit of a dick.

Oohhh, me wanna go too!! Have fun at that gig man, it's gonna rock!
Anyway, I find myself listening to Ram-zet the last couple of weeks, anyone heard anything from them?!? I'd highly recommend them, very explosive deathmetal with a pinch of prog rock. :edgarrock: |
Yeah, Yngwie has a pretty jerkoff attitude. I read an interview once where the interviewer asked him what other guitarists he listened to, and he replied with something like "I don't listen to other guitarists. I hear them, but I don't listen to them."
|
yeah that kind of attitude really sucks, I hope for the guy itself it's only just an act towards reporters (you know to seem like a rock dude!! :S ) otherwise he's just a dick..

For the top Black Metal bands, -1349 -Anaal Nathrakh -Immortal -Emperor (preferably their early stuff) -Bathory -Darkthrone -Enslaved -Gorgoroth -Dark funeral And for those that didnt make it one the list but are alright an nothing great - Marduk, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, Samael (I prefer their later dark industrial-ish stuff though) Naglfar For the top Death metal bands (I merged some melo-death in there) -Morbid Angel -Vader -Bloodbath -At the gates -Dark Tranquility -Behemoth -Anata -Malevolant Creation -Grimfist -Death -Hypocrisy -Carcass -Entombed And the noteable mentions- Disembowelment, Deicide, Napalm death, Aborted, Kataklysm, Dismember, Cryptopsy Top Thrash bands, -Exodus -Destruction -Kreator -Sodom -Slayer -The Haunted (this ones a debateable genre, but I think theyre thrash) -Slayer -Lyzanxia -Megadeth Top Random Heavy metal bands -Danzig -Nevermore -Iron Maiden -Type o Negative -Devildriver -Strapping young lad -Symphony X -Venom -Black Sabbath -High on fire Top industrial metal bands -Ministry -Bile and Black from the dead -Hanzel und gretyl -Rammstien -Sybreed -VOID Thats pretty much my preferance list of metal bands, I l know I probably missed alot of crucial bands. Best metal concert Ive been to Kreator and Vader 2005 And as for upcoming shows, Ill probably attend Morbid Angel w/ Behemoth. |
Probably the best show I've ever been to was 3 Inches Of Blood and Corrosion of Conformity opening for Motörhead. I couldn't hear for days after that.

Ok, Thanks, just curious... Anyone here a System of a Down fan, if so, where would you classify them, Genre-wise? (It seems to be hard for people to classify them) |
