well it's not down, because I played yesterday... you might just have some difficulty to connect like many others...

edit: I just tried like 2 sec ago to connect just to be sure and nope it's not down in fact I doN,t have any problem at all to connect (got connected in 2 sec with no problem)

gaming Oct 10, 2006 12:07 PM

I think the problem is my firewall...?
What port(s) do I have to open to play BF2142?

Inhert Oct 10, 2006 05:39 PM

I don't know even if I have a router the connection is not block... maybe it use one of the port that I have already open for other application but I don't know...

Animechanic Oct 10, 2006 06:05 PM

I'm impressed. I was bored today so i tried sending my team's titan out of bounds. Strangely enough, there is code that makes it stop before it reaches the boundary. Bravo EA/Dice, you have surpassed my expectations of you.

BIGWORM Oct 10, 2006 07:24 PM

How the hell do you control the Titan, anyway? I've been playing this demo non-stop for the past few days, though I've found little people who have a microphone for Comms. Shall we get together for some matches? You can friend me with the name tzBIGWORM . Hope to see you guys on.

Kamui Oct 10, 2006 08:03 PM

In order to move the Titan, you have to be the Commander and use the right-click command to do so.

I tried manning some of the anti-air anti-surface guns on the TItan and it's pretty fun.

My beef remains the same though, action becomes choppy (maybe related to the movement of those monsters) once onboard of Titans.

BIGWORM Oct 10, 2006 08:54 PM

I only get choppiness during entrance and exit of the Titan.

RacinReaver Oct 11, 2006 11:10 AM

The titan combat reminds me a bit of Tribes, except that you need a computer about 20x as powerful to play it (and the lack of kickass jetpacks). =\/

Animechanic Oct 11, 2006 02:38 PM

BF2142 reminds me of a lot of stuff. They basically just ripped off every other sci-fi shooter in order to make their game.

The gunships, hovertanks, and walkers are straight out of Planetside, and I've heard a lot of people say how much certain things remind them of UT2K4, but I never played it so I don't really know.

KrazyTaco Oct 11, 2006 08:48 PM

Namely the Engineers repair gun looks alot like the link gun from UT2K4. I believe there were other similaritys I noticed, but thats the only one I remember off the top of my head.

In other news: Got my next, and what will probably be my last, promotion tonight. First Sergeant for the win.

I forgot that since I have SF, I get 2 unlocks, which means I got the only 2 other guns that I even wanted, the MP-7 for engineers and the P-90 for Anti-Tank. All thats left to unlock is both snipers, which I honestly cant say I would pay 2 cents for.

garthvadr3 Oct 11, 2006 10:32 PM

actually, the 2nd sniper unlock is one of the best unlocks.

I just got my expert assault combat tonight. Wow that was crazy, now which expert badge to get next...

randomwab Oct 13, 2006 01:39 PM

I'm just gonna throw this out there. If you don't like it, throw it right back.

Battlefield 2142 tonight?

GFF takes down enemy titan.

Solis Oct 13, 2006 05:24 PM

Fine by me, I'm up for either game. 2142 has a few interesting mechanics, the squad combat seems to have a bit bigger focus with the whole titan mode and such. Just wish they didn't lock out all the good team equipment in the demo.

gaming Oct 15, 2006 12:21 PM

BF2142 question:
What kind of latency do you guys get?
I don't know, but the game is very laggy for me. No matter what server I use.
Latency somewhere between 500 and 1000. What is normal...?

Animechanic Oct 17, 2006 12:33 PM

Well, this is interesting:

Original is here, but that's most of it anyway: http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=13049860

So, I think I just won't buy it now. I was willing to tolerate the full game price for what was basically another mod, just as long as the game was good. But now it turns out, not only is it still full-game price, the are making extra money by putting ads in the game, and spying on your computer to do so. I knew EA was money-grubbing, but this is by far a new low.

Thalin Oct 17, 2006 12:35 PM

Atrocious. That's all I can say.

Domino Oct 17, 2006 12:56 PM

After reading some reviews, my interest in this was wavering, but now I'm definately not going to get this. I don't want that stuff on my PC.
I'll stick with BF2 for now.

Rock Oct 17, 2006 01:11 PM

Let's just wait until they make something like a Titan mode mod for BF2. EA can just go fuck themselves. It's a shame that some people are stupid enough and still buy this piece of crap.

garthvadr3 Oct 17, 2006 01:50 PM

lol, I was waiting for someone to finally see my point of veiw on BF2142. I'm glad some people finally want to stick to EA. Maybe if they loose enough money on this one, they will actually make a real BF sequel and maybe wait more than a year to crank it out so it is actually good.

Animechanic Oct 17, 2006 04:04 PM

Here's a picture of the paper announcing the ad-ware.

Also, here's a pic of the in-game ads at work. Mcdonalds!

Just so you have an idea of how bad it is.

As for that note, the first line is hilarious

Yah, I didn't think in-game advertising would be that bad if it:
1) Lowered the total cost of the software (It doesn't for 2142)
2) Blended in with the game enviorment (It doesn't for 2142)
3) You can destroy/defile the ad (You can't in 2142, or so it looks like from that picture)

So great, EA has broken the 3 common rules everyone expects from having in-game ads. FU EA, FU.

Domino Oct 17, 2006 04:36 PM

I thought that they would at least let us destroy the ads. EA are no fun. :(

KrazyTaco Oct 17, 2006 04:55 PM

Oh dear, it seems the hilarity just never stops.

Battlefield 2142 v1.01 Patch
Battlefield 2142 is set in the future, the world is plagued by a second Ice Age, and wars have broken out over the remaining territories. Mech Warrior-meets-Battlefield 2 is the best way to describe it.

This 18mb launch day patch fixes a client side crash on Titan Mode.

Rock Oct 17, 2006 05:16 PM

Despite all the EA bashing, you have to admire their courage to release the demo that kept people from spending money on this crap.

Animechanic Oct 17, 2006 08:51 PM

Okay, sounds like things have been blown out of proportion, as usual.

The general consensus I am seeing now, is that the program is not actually spyware that searches your computer for information about you. Instead it's a monitoring program that determines how long you look at an add in game. It also records your IP address, so it knows what adds to display (ads for American products if your IP adress is in the USA, ads for European products if your IP is European, etc.).

I'll admit that this is a lot better than previously thought, but it still doesn't change the fact that EA is forcing us to look at ads while not giving us any benefits in return.
