Just a quick glance at Gamestop revealed the existence of a Special Edition Guide. Although, it's a Prima guide, which I don't particularly associate with quality.

Has anyone heard anything about that?

I wonder if it's worth just going with the "Official Nintendo Guide." Their stuff is usually pretty solid.

Don't know if you saw this, but it seems Nintendo Power is doing a deal, 12month subscription + Zelda Player's Guide + Zelda Soubdtrack for like $20. I haven't bought it yet, but I'm planning on it. To good a deal to pass up.

Check it here

JasonTerminator Nov 15, 2006 02:21 AM

Not bad. Usually the deal includes the game, but this makes it so you can get Zelda on launch day and get the guide a bit later.

rpgcrazied Nov 15, 2006 02:54 PM

Man, its like the GCN version doesnt exist. Ebgames/Gamestop/Amanzon is not taking anymore preorders.

Im trying walmart, it looks like you can still order it from them.

Oh, the stores in my area arent taking anymore preorders for the cube version either. If you want this version guys, id start looking around... like walmart/target or something.

I saw on EBGames' website that they were taking anymore pre-orders for the Wii nor Cube versions of Twilight Princess. I was going to ask what the fuck was up with that "limited production" shit. Are they not releasing many copies of the game at all? Or not many copies of the special edition that the first run Zelda games have almost always been and then release a "non-special" version after the first pressings?

The wolfs nose is stuck in the huge horrible Aussie rating. Final boss confirmed. :(

No wonder he looks so terrified. The weight of the rating is pulling him down, he'll fall! :(

The OFLC is rated "M": For mouldy, masturbating politicians. Censored (or banned) games? Get lost!

Reading around so far, Zelda TP has been quoted as the "true spiritual successor of OoT", and the average scores are virtually perfect (keyword virtually). Why? Coz the gRaf1xZ r n0t l33tZ! Understandable, yes, but the reviewers picking on the score because of this factor are getting it wrong. So what if some blurry things here and there? What about art direction (though some sites have pointed that out, thank god for that)?

Cal Nov 17, 2006 07:51 AM

As if M. Try PG.

And frankly, you should be blaming the cunthats who can't be shat employing basic reading skills rather than the OFLC.

And while we're here, fuck this 'spiritual successor' rubbish. You know the kind of Nintendo fan I hate the most? The one who claims no regard WHATSOEVER for graphics, yet chucks a BIG FAT REPUBLIC OF FAGSNIA when Nintendo, simply for variety's sake, dare to tamper with a formula that isn't broken. NO WHAT THE FUCK I WANT TGS 2000 ZALDA; WHAT IS THIS CEL SHIT; WHAT IS THIS THREE-DAY SHIT. Get stuffed, ungrateful hypocrites.

IGN Review: 9.5

8.0 Presentation
A truly epic new Zelda complete with a compelling, darker storyline, enhanced controls, and brand new gameplay mechanics. Lack of voice acting and orchestrated music are unfortunate.
8.5 Graphics
An absolutely gorgeous GameCube game. An enormous, detailed world brought to life via beautiful art. But Wii is still capable of much more, as the adventure's sometimes-blurry textures prove.
8.0 Sound
Again, where's the orchestrated music? Come on, Nintendo. Everything else is great, from the moody sound effects to the atmospheric MIDI compositions.
9.5 Gameplay
Superb. The tried-and-true Zelda gameplay mechanics are taken to new heights with the Wii remote and nunchuk. Overworld and temple designs are stellar. Classic Zelda reborn for a new generation.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
It'll keep you busy for at least 50 hours and you could spend double that in Nintendo's new Hyrule. So much to do and see that you'll be busy for weeks, if not months.

Gamespot Review 8.8

The Good: Compelling characters and story; outstanding world and puzzle design; longer than most action adventure games; terrific graphics, from an artistic perspective.
The Bad: Wii-specific elements feel tacked on; graphics and sound sometimes go from nostalgic to dated.

PsychoJosh Nov 19, 2006 06:32 AM

8.8... well, that's that.

So, see you all same time next Zelda game, guys?

ArchesFan Nov 19, 2006 02:36 PM

8.8 is a fair score. The fanboys are just making a bigger deal of it than it needs. Either way, people are going to play it and probably enjoy it because despite some of the cons named, it's shaped up to be a fantastic game. I'd be playing it right now, but no wii for me yet. =P

Cheezeman3000 Nov 19, 2006 04:23 PM

Following is the Gamerankings pie chart of all the reviews received so far. Guess where the Gamespot review lies....

mortis Nov 19, 2006 08:23 PM

Is 8.8 really that bad? I don't know why so many people are up in arms about that score from ONE person. It is a review, which basically means it's an opinion. And everyone is entitled one. I'm sure many people who give their opinion of the game AFTER they play it will be higher, but by then, they will enjoy the game so much that they won't care too much about other opinions. So I don't see what the problem is.

NovaX Nov 19, 2006 08:54 PM

Don't worry the GC version will score higher, it doesn't have tacked-on controls bringing it down.

Wall Feces Nov 19, 2006 08:59 PM

I can say from experience that while the controls may be "tacked on" as you say, that doesn't change the fact that it's an infinite times better this way. I'll never go back to tapping a button to swing Link's sword again after playing it this way. It's such a blast to swing the sword with your arm and feel that last hit connect with your foe. It takes the immersion and cranks it up ten-fold, which in return, makes it that much more fun.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH.

Anyone who says the Wii controls are crappy has obviously NEVER tried them before! Next time I hear someone say they prefer button mashing to motion controls, I'm gonna button mash... their head.... in. :boxing:

majario Nov 20, 2006 01:15 AM

Yes, playing Zelda on the Wii rocks. Watching Link swing his sword as I swing the Wiimote around is only one of the great things that makes the Wii version 10 times better. I can't wait to start doing more!

Grawl Nov 20, 2006 04:14 AM

I found a great review! - http://rr.wii.ign.com/rrview/wii/the.../748589/53368/

Turbo Nov 20, 2006 08:42 AM

Here's a question, can I play Zelda on a normal 19 inch CRT? Its the only TV I have that I can use freely without worrying about anyone freaking out. Is it going to be stuck in widescreen mode or will it fill the whole screen?

The_Griffin Nov 20, 2006 09:18 AM

It can be in 4:3 if you want.

I have the same problem myself (plus the additional problem of no widescreen TVs AT ALL).

Wall Feces Nov 20, 2006 06:52 PM

God I love this game. I think the music is absolutely beautiful despite people ripping on it for being MIDI. The Faron Woods music is really awesome.

I WANT A GAMERIP PRONTO.

majario Nov 20, 2006 11:06 PM

I just got back from seeing the twilight world and it looks freakin' beautiful. The surroundings of Hyrule Castle are very well done and Zelda looks very nice. Looks like Nintendo worked on her graphics wise. So far I'm being blown out of the water. I love it!

rpgcrazied Nov 20, 2006 11:48 PM

So how you guys liking it? Im waiting another few weeks to get the cube version. Question.. on the Wii version can you toggle the map off the screen, or is it always present?

Yeah, you can turn it off.

The more I play it, the more I know that Gamespot review is a load of shit. Yeah, so the music is midi, it still sounds fantastic. And he can hardly blame Zelda for the Wiimote having such a small, crappy speaker - and even then, I love the way Midna's laugh sounds on it. He's got a point with the lack of voice acting, the lack of which is perhaps a tradition the Zelda series needs breaking, but the game still doesn't warrant the sound score it received.

As far as gameplay with the Wiimote goes, I wouldn't say the sword controls are technically any better or worse than using a button, but they certainly are more fun. Everything else, on the other hand, particularly aiming, is a helluva lot better with the Wiimote.

Meh, whatever. I think the real low blow comes when you look at some of the crap they've rated better. Final Fantasy VIII? Daxter? Perfect Dark Zero?
