Okay, I've scrolled through several pages of this thread and I can't seem to find an answer already posted to this. Is there a date set for new DS Lite colors to be released in the US? I'd really like to get navy or really any color other than white. I've got until next June before my Best Buy plan runs out, but the Lite is so very tempting right now.

Rockgamer Jul 9, 2006 07:11 PM

Nothing has been officially said about releasing more colors of the DS Lite in America, but if I were to take a guess I would say that at least one more will be out by the end of the year. If you have until next June to use your Best Buy thingy, you should definitely be able to get another color by then, but if you want one now that badly, you should probably just get one. The earliest I suspect a new color to be released here is in September, though it probably won't actually happen until around the holidays.

Black shows the scratches, fingerprints and dirt quicker than the white one does, much like a car. Youtube has a bunch of videos showing the black DS Lite. For the price you're going to pay for shipping and handling, you could have bought a couple of games.

But hey, go ahead and waste your money. It's cool.

Also there might be a slight chance that the non glossy bits of the white DS will go yellow-ish brown like the SNES and DC sometimes do after a few years for that whole sexy toilet look! :lovesmileygoeshere:

That being the exact reason I'm not too keen on the white color. My Dreamcast is a sad example of this.

God Elixir, it's his money, just let him spend it the way he wants.

Elixir Jul 9, 2006 10:34 PM

I'm just sayin', you know.

I still prefer the Ice Blue Lite but everyone thinks it's for girls. I only have a white because I'm impatient.

Actually, I went through the same experience recently with the original DS. Play-asia are having a sale and their black/white original DS' are on special (they're now the same price as the DS Lite) and I really wanted to pick one up. If the Lite hadn't of been released I probably would've already imported it by now.

But alas, they do the same thing. It's not like I'm going to run around the streets yelling "I HAVE A BLACK NINTENDO DS".

kat Jul 9, 2006 10:42 PM

To be honest, I really wanted the pink DS Lite.

omgsuchagirl

But I'm too broke to pay the extra $30+ and also if issues arise, a warranty would be useless and I wouldn't want to be stuck buying another DS.

Seconded. I was really hoping for a blue one too. But I was getting desperate after 5 shops didn't have any DS Lites. And how is that for girls?

It was the same colour as my cover girl glasses case... even I thought it would be a little too girly for me. I don't mind the white at all though, looks very macish :) You can hold out for a pink one, then that can be super girly.

Limited edition FFIII DS announced today, will probably never see the light of day outside Japan and also cause riots during the light of day in Japan.

Sega's also bringing their own Brain Training type game to DS. Normally it wouldn't be worth mentioning except that the website's music is awesome. <3

In addition to pink, Japan will also be getting black coming up in Sept..so that's what, 5 colors for them? I am a little irked at the US's uni-color situation right now, and I'm holding off on getting a DS Lite until they offer more options. Why they couldn't just have launched it with a second color like Europe, I dunno. I desperately want the navy blue color, of course that means NoA will end up announcing red, purple, and chartreuse.

Just a business strategy I bet. Sell a bunch of white DSLs, wait until some interest is lost, come out with two different blues, repeat with black. In Japan they know it doesn't matter since the DS will always be hyped. They can toss as many colours at them at once and they'll always continue to sell.

Not to mention, the crazy people who can't wait a minute longer for their colored DS will just import from there anyway. It's win-win for Nintendo.

I tried searching for blur and ghosting and nothing came up, so I'll ask here.

It's normal for a DS Lite to have slight ghosting right? Did the original DS have it too? And while I'm at it, what about the Micro(I know SP2 does from tryin them out in stores).

I've gotten pretty used to it so it doesn't really bother me as much as it did at first, but I'd like to know if it's normal or not.

Infernal Monkey Jul 12, 2006 09:22 PM

Probably. I've noticed some ghosting on certain parts of New Super Mario (map screens, some dessert levels). But that's only when I have the brightness set to maaaax powaaaah.

BurningRanger Jul 13, 2006 02:28 AM

I look very closely at LCDs for this kind of thing and don't see any ghosting whatsoever.

Even on max brightness.

Even in Kirby's Canvas Curse. Which is probably the brightest game ever made.

I don't think you have to worry too much about ghosting, no.

Elixir Jul 13, 2006 03:07 AM

I'm going to try and replace my DS again. I've noticed another dead pixel on the bottom right of the top screen. There's two of them now, and while one isn't as apparent as the other, nothing I've done would have caused this.

I'll just tell them I've been on vacation or something, and hopefully they'll replace it. I'm really not happy about it getting a second dead pixel, and the dead pixel fixers don't work.

Well, I do have ghosting, and its too late to exchange it to Best Buy I think. Oh well, no dead pixels at least.

Do your DS Lite's touch screen have dust building up around the inner border? How should I clean those out? They're stuck pretty good in them, so a simple rub doesn't get them out.

Vampiro Jul 13, 2006 10:54 PM

I just used toothpick... seemed to work pretty well.

BurningRanger Jul 13, 2006 11:51 PM

Wait, are you talking ghosting like in an arcade machine where it has PRESS START TO PLAY permanently burned on the screen?

Or like a blur as things move?

Metal Sphere Jul 13, 2006 11:53 PM

Burning, the first thing you spoke of is called burn-in or image retention. Motion blur is the second thing you mentioned, a slight whitish blur when something moves on-screen.

Ryunam Jul 14, 2006 01:35 PM

I've just purchased a european Black DS Lite. It is fantastic from an aesthetic point of view, it looks gorgeous and has phenomenal colours if compared to the DS' visual performance. I naturally appreciate the 4 levels of brightness and the overall look/feel of the two screens.

What didn't strike as equally gratifying were some little drawbacks I noticed.
First of all, the volume, at its maximum level, is noticeably lower than how it sounded on the DS. It can be kind of solved with the implementation of good earphones, though it's certainly more of an annoyance than a welcome addition.

Second, we have this ghosting effect, almost unperceivable, yes, but it's there. I think it was produced along with the chromatic enhancement that can be seen on the screens. Not really unnerving, since it's not evident.

Third unfortunate discovery, the D-Pad suffers from a blatant lack of calibration and sensitivity in diagonal movements. I can tell you, it's very bothersome for those games that require fast and precise 360° movements.

I've read of several people noticing this flaw and, actually, I'm considering bringing it back for an exchange. By testing around, I can sense that the directional cross is very stiff, rigid - and you can tell it has an unstable dead zone that affects too intensely the direction of your movements. It's not an overstatement when I say that some GBA titles are nearly unplayable because of that.

So, I'm rather disappointed in regards to these aspects. Otherwise, it's simply a beauty to gaze upon - and it provides a real blast with touch-based games - especially Mario Kart DS, what with all the amazingly brilliant colours it sports.

FatsDomino Jul 14, 2006 01:53 PM

If Nintendo would fix those issues you've pointed out, I'd happily buy that version of the DSlite again. It'd be worth it. My big beef is the dpad being stiff for diagonals and the sound not being as loud as the original DS. I believe that later versions of the original DS have weaker speakers than the original launch DS system. My friends model he got a year after launch is noticeably lower in volume compared to my DS I got at launch.
