I like Roy more.
|
It'd be awesome if Nintendo added Mike Tyson, from Punch Out. Or maybe even Lolo..
|
Actually, Marth is one of the most widely used characters for competetive play. Come to think of it... I've come across way too few people who don't like him (online even)!
|
Don't get me wrong, I love Marth, he's my favorite character to use. But most of my friends hate him, they say he's like a crappy version of Link.
|
If anyone's a crappy version of Link it's Young Link. Young Link sucks ass.
|
True dat. If anything, Marth is just a better version of Roy.
PS. Falco Rules. |
My main charcter is Young Link. He can kick ass, but it's tougher. I enjoy the challenge. I choose him for his versatile moves, and he's quicker with them than Link (though YL is weaker, hence the challenge).
Anyway, you guys seen that Japan can help fill in the roster? Hope it comes out in English! http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707671p1.html http://www.smashbros.com/jp/toukou/index.html |
Marth is my favorite character to use as well. He may not seem so special on first glance, but he's very versatile. The sword gives him excellent range, and his agility allows him to dodge the enemy most of the time. Let's not forget how useful his Counter move is or the fact that he does more damage with the tip of his sword, meaning he doesn't have to get close to the enemy like Roy does.
I also like Young Link more than Link. I always enjoyed the speedier characters, and fire arrows are definitely cool. Aside from Marth, Falco is another one of my most-played characters. His high jumping is pretty useful, and his gun can actually knock the enemy back a bit, unlike Fox's. I hope they don't alter the existing characters' playing styles too drastically. I was disappointed in Kirby's playing style in Melee in comparison to the original. In the original, he was a powerhouse, but in Melee he's almost unplayable. I definitely do want them to alter Ganondorf's playing style though, because it makes no sense for him to be a clone of Captain Falcon. Give him a sword, make his style unique. |
Oh for fuck's sake, "a crappy Link" is redundant. Moving along.

I'm sure that it was hinted at before but I kinda want to bring it up again. I think the costumes for each character such vary cosmetically and affect character selection as well. For example, you select Mario and one of his alternate costumes is Dr. Mario, from there you can choose the color you want for Dr. Mario. It'll basically have the same differences as the Mario and Dr. Mario in SSBM with Dr. Mario being stronger and slower. Another example is if there's the short-sleeved Super Mario Sunshine version of Mario. Again, you choose Mario and go to the Super Mario Sunshine version and change color from there. The difference is that the SMS version is able to use the water back pack thing. This would also work with Samus's various suits. I can't really speculate much about what the differences would be since I'm not too knowledgable about the Metroid universe apart from Metroid Prime.
Of course, this rule does not apply to characters such as Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi. It simply wouldn't make sense because they are not even the same person. Also, I was wondering if SSBB can add certain new abilities such as Link's mirror shield. |

Geeze, this whole thing has me thinking up ways to have like an equipment/cutomize system for Smash Bros. Each character could have elements from their games. Samus could have her suit from Fusion, and Prime, and whatnot, and you'd have to chose one before the battle. Each suit would have different attacks and such. Mario could have FLUD, or whatever else, Luigi could have the vaccum etc... How weird would it be to have to customizables available for each character. Can you imagine Mario in Samus's Power suit? |

OMGZ, Or Kirby in Samus'....oh wait. |
Ice Climbers and Yoshi are my favorite characters to use. My best character is Falco though.
|
My personal favorite was Mr. Game & Watch. His moves were, although quite short-ranged, very quick and powerful. His down+A attack (not even the down smash, just a standard down attack) will yield an almost guaranteed kill if it hits anyone above 60%.
|
My best character was always Falco. Otherwise it was Roy. My strategy usually revolves around hit and run techniques. Falco's jumping ability was perfect for death from above techs, while Roy was perfect for a relativly quick moving powerhouse. I thrive on quick movements.
This is why i'm praying that they don't fiddle around too much with the way the characters are set up in Melee. I can use pretty much any character effectivly, with the exception of any of the pokemon (strange as it seems, i can't use any of them) or Cpt. Falcon, or Ganondorf. They totally mutilated Cpt. Falcon from Smash to Melee. I know this cause Falcon used to be my number one character until Melee. Does anyone think they'll ditch any characters? I'm hoping they'll keep the current roster, and only build onto it. |
I'm enjoying all of you bash certain charactors in Melee, as each one is powerful in their own right when used by someone who knows what they're doing. Every charactor, every last one, can be cheap/godly if used correctly.
|
I'm not bashing anyone, i'm just saying that the way they've changed the characters has moved them away from my fighting style. I guess it doesn't matter, i'm just wondering why they're bothering to do this.
|
They didn't remove anyone from Melee so I don't see why they would remove any from Brawl.
|
Okay, moving away from character debates.
