I got GG:Judgment. It's okay. GG:J is pretty cool. There are about 24 areas and 6 actual levels. Some bosses are annoying as fuck. But anyway, it's pretty good overall. The only reason I got this was because it had GGXX#R in it. Sucks though, cause the PSP d-pad sucks, but luckily it's still playable (without mod), because ASW made the direction input a little less strict. Pretty difficult to RC, even harder for FRC. No Infrastructure mode. =(

If you can get your hands on the Japanese version, that might be better, as it has GGXXSlash instead of GGXX#Reload. I still got it though.

As long as you're able to perform the moves with the Analog stick, it is good enough for me. I only wish they had Order Sol, Leopaldon and ABA on it. More interesting and better. So far I haven't lost to any of my friends and they play well with the analog.

Im currently playing Blade Dancer and it isn't so bad. Anyone finish it yet?

Well, my Devhook up and screwed me over. I read that it might randomly corrupt data on your memory stick, but I've also heard people not come accross anything like this, so I wasn't sure what to think.

First it corrupted a few gamesaves, which didn't bother me since I back up my saves anyway. But now it has gone and corrupted a 90MB folder of music and formatting the memory stick only soft deletes everything and puts the default folders back in.

Is there a way to hard format the stick so I could get the bad sectors back into use? Or maybe some newer version of Devhook which doesn't do crap like this? I'd hate to reinstall everything and use my PSP in constant fear that it'll decide to corrupt something large again.

And to think I just bought Metal Gear Solid DGN too :(

EDIT:
Ok, so there's said to be a "PSP corrupt data remover" somewhere that might help. I'm not sure though, everyone only keeps talking about the corrupted data icons in the games folder, so I've no idea if it actually works on actual data that Devhook's corrupted. That, and it's typically hideously difficult to simply download a copy of the program, with every link either expired or behind registration.

El Ray Fernando Oct 11, 2006 06:37 AM

Not that I have ever had the need to use such a program but you could try this or this, neither links require registration.

As for DevHook data corruption: The only thing you have to do to prevent it from happening is write-protecting the file AUTH.DAT in your emulated firmware folder \flash1\net\http\

It's sad people seem to be unaware of this and these useless "corruption fixers" (obviously, the corruption can't be fixed, it can only be deleted) are still floating around.

Then again, I think I have stated this here already at some point ...

Corrupted icons for KXploited 1.5 homebrew is an entirely different thing alltogether and can be solved by adding %__SCE__ (and __SCE__) respectively to the folders names. Again, no software required to do this.

EDIT: Found my earlier post concerning DH corruption: http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/so...ost213463.html ;-)

map car man words telling me to do things Oct 11, 2006 01:17 PM

I wasn't concerned with "fixing" the corrupted data, I'm only interested in getting rid of it since regular deleting on the PSP or through on the PC proves not possible.

I back up my saves and music can be copied over again, so nothing is "lost", but I wouldn't want to be paranoid about when my memory stick will get to the point of having more corrupted space than available space.

If I can free up the bad sectors with one of these "useless" applications, all the better. Then I will try if write protecting auth.dat will have any effect, although with my luck the corruption is caused by something else entirely.

You said it might do with using the browser, but I can't tell if you mean the internet browser, the PSP browser or the devhook browser. Another site claimed it sometimes happen when you put the PSP into sleep mode while it's reading a game image off the memory stick. I would imagine it would corrupt the game image and not something else, but otherwise it would make sense. I used to exit out of the game before putting to sleep, but recently I've just switching off whenever.

EDIT:
Ok so you're right, these are useless :tpg:

The first one won't let you select drive volume and will try to "fix" my PSP from my DVD drive and the second one won't even start because it requires some version of .Net framework installed. And I tend not to like applications that, unannounced, require something else to be installed first for them to even start. Guess I'll try the memory stick reader at my work tomorrow, see if I can hard format the whole thing.

Rock Oct 11, 2006 02:35 PM

If your memory stick is fairly new and already does have bad sectors, it's probably not from the corruption caused by DevHook, because that's a software problem. What you're talking about is a physical problem with your memory stick and it might have nothing to do with DevHook at all.

My advice would be to try and return the memory stick and get a new one if you're still under warranty. These corruption fixers only unlock the corrupted files so you're able to delete them from the stick (you can do the same manually by simply running CHKDSK /F on your memory stick with the PSP connected via USB). They do not "fix" anything at all and never did. Have you tried formatting the stick with FAT32 from Windows? The PSP only formats FAT16 which wastes quite a lot of space on a 1 GB stick.

DevHook corruption (which occurs while using the PSP internet browser) is prevented entirely by write-protecting AUTH.DAT. This is a fact and 100% confirmed by numerous people.

map car man words telling me to do things Oct 11, 2006 03:07 PM

Again, like I said, I wasn't concerned with fixing or retrieving anything, I just wanted the space for use again.

I wasn't able to format the stick from Windows earlier, but for some reason now it works. I have the whole stick in use again, so it definitely wasn't physical. I'll go ahead and write protect auth.dat once I install devhook again then, thanks for the heads up.

I think the reason not that many people are aware of that is because most places that have the devhook available for download don't really want to talk about it corrupting data because they'd rather everyone be using their uber leet program instead of fearing what it'll do. Even if you assure that write protecting something "should" fix it, once people know of a flaw like that, they'll be vary.

Anyway, I'll just see if the problem surfaces again. Even if it does, at least I know I can get the space back.

Remember not too long ago when Valve were all like ZOMG HDR lighting? Yeah, PSP does that. The fellas responsible for Dr. Death are hoping to make some vast improvements with the upcoming sequel including adding that spiffy HL2 technology. The article has the lead designer guy talking about the development process and how they achieved HDR on the PSP. It's an interesting read.

I'm sorry if I'm veering off the discussion a little but I have a question. I'm on the verge of trading in my PSP unless I can find an incentive to keep it. I've searched the playstation website but haven't seen any upcoming games that interest me. Does anyone know some good upcoming rpg's or platformers? I don't know if any Final Fantasy games are coming out for the PSP but if there are it certainly boost my spirits enough to keep my PSP. Any help is greatly appreciated!! :)

Does anyone know what the highest firmware is which runs emulators is? I can't find anything covering it.

There is a Final Fantasy VII spin off called "Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII", that might interest you.

Slayer X Oct 21, 2006 08:34 AM

That's right. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. A game that covers the earlier years before VII. In it you play as Zack with Sephiroth at his side, accomplishing missions for Shinra, and allowing you to see what things were like before Nimbelheim.

There is also Disgaea coming for the PSP, so if you didn't play it on the PS2 and are an RPG fan, this is one that you should definatly check out.

Only firmware 1.5 runs emulators properly. You can downgrade your 2.71, though.

There's also a custom firmware with homebrew support out now, but I have yet to check it out.

Do you know the release dates for these games? I have a friend who got Disgaea for the PS2 and has told me great things about it so I might just check it out. Now for the Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, that will be a definite get for me. It's funny b/c when I asked the EB games guy if any Final Fantasy games would be coming out for the PSP he told me that there wouldn't be any. Anyway, will there be more info released soon about this game or is too early to be talking in detail about it?

God damn, I'm trying. I upgraded to 2.71 (was 2.60) and now I'm trying to downgrade to 1.5, except it keeps crashing on the photo menu. There's apparently a 1 in 10 chance of getting it to work.

Someone said it took them over 50 tries. So this means tonight will be SO MUCH FUN.

Speakin of Disgaea, There will be a psp port of the game sometime later. There's a site somewhere so look into that. The psp has a shitload of good games. I have at least 13 and some games do have replay value like the two remake Megaman games, Valkyrie Profile : Lenneth, etc. The same goes for fighting games. So far, I see about 40 used psps at gamestop. Not many people understand the system but oh well. Think wisely of what you're doing.

elixir : try lookin at psphacks. They have stuff that talks about 2.81 >.>;;. There should be some good stuff for 2.71.

Slayer X Oct 22, 2006 11:29 AM

Here's an article of Gamespot's on Didgaea for the PSP.

Quote:

While a US release hasn't been confirmed yet, NIS America has said it would like to bring the title over, and promised that it would add something special exclusively to the North American version of the game. However, the company is also asking for fan support to help get the game released domestically.

"Because Disgaea is an incredible fan favorite, NIS America is eager to bring Disgaea Portable to the US fans," the company said. "But in order to make it happen, we will need to prove there is enough support and demand for Disgaea Portable! So we would appreciate it if you could support us by raising your voice and making some noise for Disgaea Portable in the US!"
No release date on FFVII: Crisis Core yet. However it's been in production for about two years or so now and we know that it IS coming, it's just a matter of time. Meanwhile here's a bunch of screens and info on it for ya to get you started and there's more info floating around the net if you want to know more.

EDIT: Here's the link for the Disgaea portable site; http://disgaea.jp/psp1/index.html

Well there's this if you have 2.71. I want to try it, but at the same time... >_>

Elixir Oct 23, 2006 05:44 AM

That tutorial sucks. And reportedly emulators run slower on 2.xx firmware.

I just used this after upgrading to 2.71, and it downgraded to 1.50 after awhile. I say "after awhile" because there's like a 90% chance the photo menu will crash while trying to read the .tiff file, but eventually it'll display a red screen and it'll be done within 2 minutes.

I can't seem to find a site with the most updated emulators for PSP though. It took me awhile to realize DGen's latest version was 1.70 (the "DGEN for PSPv1.70" is confusing, it makes it sounds like it's made for firmware 1.70) but yeah. I'm assuming this is the latest Genesis emulator.

So far hackmypsp, qj and psp-hacks seem to be the most reliable for downloads.

Looks like we got some..."good" news from Konami. For those who didn't want to get the game cause of the loading times.

Furthermore, Konami is adding a map event known as Sealed Cave. Inside the cave nine minigames are waiting to be completed. The development team has also included various modes, such as time trial. In this trial mode, players have to play through the mini games as quickly as possible. Fast players will be rewarded with special items.

If the loading times are good then I'll cop' the damn game. It should be worth it and definately cheap to buy since they completely flopped with the other psp version.

Rock Oct 29, 2006 02:05 PM

So the addition of a media player and some (probably useless) minigames make this "flop" worth buying again for you?

I rather think the PSP port of Ys was a decent game and this re-release will flop.

Slayer X Oct 29, 2006 02:28 PM

I myself own the game for the PS2 and I don't care for it all that much. Then when you add the longer loading times and the lack of VO in the PSP version I can't really justify buying this game. Especially when it's $20 for the PS2 version.

Aren't all of those features already present in the US version of the game? Or were you talking about importing?
