At any rate, it's still no problem to check it while you're at the store.

EDIT: Another good trick is to bring Electroplankton, if you have it - you can then quickly switch between different colored backgrounds, including black and white, to spot stuck pixels.

Totally not regretting it....This is an amazing machine. Interesting story being that I had to check 5 stores for the Mario Kart DS Game itself and the only the sixth store I checked had the actual DS Lite in stock. Maybe it's been a while since I last made a gaming puchase, but this took a ridiculously long time to hunt down. Whatever, I am loving this machine.

EDIT: Sorry, my camera sucks balls.....3.2 Megapixels.....I might need to buy a new camera too...

FatsDomino Jun 28, 2006 09:35 AM

Yeah, I asked the 3 EB/Gamestops around if they had any issues with customers with dead pixels and they said no. It's possible they could have lied but I told them I was going to buy a DSlite no matter what and that I was just curious. But yeah I was very lucky to get the last one in my area.

KnowsNothing Jun 28, 2006 10:17 AM

Yeah, I caved and picked one up, just like I did when the SP came out. I really didn't want to spend the money, but I'm glad I did. This thing is amazing.

Honestly though, I thought the screens would be brighter. With all the talk of "death" on the internet I was a bit let down. But they're still awesome :P Also, I love the new buttons and stylus, but the D-Pad is not my favorite. It's loose in its casing, it slides around a bit, and it feels sorta.....weird. It's not that bad for most games, but powersliding in Mario makes me feel like I'm breaking the damn thing.

Also, anyone try controlling Animal Crossing with the Lite's pad? It's HARD. With the original's pad it felt surprisingly good because it was easier to push diagonals or something. I'm having a really hard time with the Lite's...

I didn't notice anything weird with my D-Pad for animal crossing. If yours is feeling loose, maybe it is. I thought the d-pad looked a bit cheap but control wise it works fine.

Actually, I've noticed this too. I hope it's only Animal Crossing that has this issue. Just consider that everything will probably be made with the DSlite in mind from now on so I don't think we'll be seeing anything like that again. New Super Mario Bros. controls like a dream for it.

Mine feels fine. But my volume control knob on my DS Lite is extremely loose. I think you have to press a bit harder with the DS Lite's touchscreen, too. But again, I don't mind. It's still definitely worth buying (and a reason never to touch your original DS again.)

Which apparently happens to the majority of DS Lites, according to people over at GameFAQs. I don't mind it though, even if my DS Lite has a couple of flaws. I'm not sure if the loose volume thing is something occuring on ALL DS Lites (and I'm pretty sure my single dead pixel (which I rarely notice) isn't) but still, I'm just glad I have a white one. After looking at the different colours, the black/navy ones look like they'd pick up dirt and fingerprints and show them easier.

I must admit I still like the Ice Blue DS Lite over the white, though.

Malmer Jun 28, 2006 02:05 PM

Oh my God :tpg:
Does anyone else get a bitter taste of Powerglove and The Wizard?

The Rumble Pack for the Lite is up for grabs on Lik-Sang now, for anyone who's interested.
Should be in my mail in a week or two, right on time with my copy of Metroid Hunters =D

BurningRanger Jun 28, 2006 02:36 PM

The volume control is loose but only in a cosmetic sense, it's still difficult enough to push it in a meaningful way.

I've noticed i have a little bit of trouble pressing upleft diagonally on my DS lite pad, but that is probably from me being used to my X360 controller. The pad itself feels great. I just need to get more used to it.

In any non-outside setting, the highest setting on my lite makes my eyes hurt.

Double Post:
They should've called it Gangsta Pink. It would've sold well to the PSP demographic.

Elixir Jun 28, 2006 03:23 PM

So, I was wondering. How many people here are still using their original DS' and not the DS Lite?

I'm still sort of interested in getting a black (or white) limited edition original japanese DS. DS Lite's aren't good for fighting games (Astro Boy, Jump Superstars, Gunstar Super Heroes, Bleach, Naruto, blah blah.)

On second thought, I might die with embarrasment, too. T_T

Oh, and I fucking love that sig, Malmer. That's really official art? =o

FatsDomino Jun 28, 2006 04:24 PM

His avatar might be official art but his sig sure isn't.

Omnislash124 Jun 28, 2006 04:59 PM

Hm.....I hear a lot of people complaining about the insane brightness, but Brightness levels 2/3 are optimal brightness IMO. Good thing I didn't get a regular DS then, Brightness level 1 was a tad too dark after playing on 2 and 3. I can see how 4 is overkill though. It's a fucking flashlight at Brightness level 4.

I am, only because I'm still waiting for them to release the black DS Lite here in America. I haven't even had my original DS for a year yet, so I'm in no rush to get rid of it for a DS Lite. I can wait for any other color other than white, though I'm mainly holding out for the black one. I'm not so desperate for one that I'm gonna get a color that I don't like.

Omnislash124 Jun 28, 2006 08:20 PM

Hmm....did anybody else have trouble trying to configure the Wifi on the DS to work? Maybe it's because my internet connectiong really sucks, but It's all enabled and ready according to the setup. But I can't get a decent connection. The farthest I've gotten is to the "Trying to find players. Please wait a moment" after selecting Worldwide/Regional/Rival/Friend. Then comes a black screen that says that I've been disconnected from the WFC. Followed by some error code that I've forgotten. Any tips/suggestions?

The red DS is very sneaky and full of stealth!

"Hey! You're that stupid secret agent spy that we all hate because we killed your father and you ate all the ham we had leftover in the fridge, this secret base of evil is off limits, off limits to YOU. I'm gonna have to shoot you. Probably in the face."
"BUT I'M JUST LOOKIN' AT MY NINTENDO DS."
"Oh okay phew, I'll be on my way then."

dusk Jun 28, 2006 10:52 PM

I, too, have both the 'loose-in-its-casing' D-pad problem and the 'cosmetically-loose' volume slider problem. Though they're not really problems because they're still completely functional, I still worry about them a bit.

Malmer Jun 29, 2006 12:26 AM

From now on it's called Sneaky Red ='D

I'm not entirely sure now, but I've found it on several sites under official art - here it's official art > scenes.
Might be some concept ideas from some noname who worked on it, and might be some random internet dude... Better change my Title.

I'm actually thinking it wasn't a "problem," but rather intentional. It seems to make sense. I haven't accidentally changed the volume once the way it is; it takes the most direct of accidental shoves to move it even a little bit, yet whenever I set my mind and thumb to the objective of moving it, I don't really have any problems. It just kinda sucks that it feels like the thing is loose enough that it'll fall off at any moment, but knowing all you guys have the same thing means it probably won't.

Also, my d-pad is not in any way loose. I just have trouble making it recognize up+left sometimes.

Infernal Monkey Jun 29, 2006 05:32 AM

Nah, my first DS Lite with the weirdo touch screen had the loose volume thing, but the one I have now is pretty solid. Doesn't matter though, unless you adjust the volume every three seconds with a screw driver or something it's not gonna fall off or anything.

Oh wow. Sorry, I jumped the gun but it didn't look like any of the official art like cover or manual art. I didn't think about concept art at all. That's pretty amusing stuff. ='D

Forsakenzoul Jul 9, 2006 12:48 AM

i have a question, if i import the Black DS Lite from Europe and use the Recharger that came with my US DS Lite will it work? sorry if its a dumb question but im honestly asking this. Thank you for your help.

Rockgamer Jul 9, 2006 12:55 AM

Damn, I just read this somewhere a few days ago, but I can't remember where. But anyway, yes, you will be able to use the US DS Lite charger with the European DS Lite.

Elixir Jul 9, 2006 01:39 AM

Please don't tell me you're going to import a handheld from a different country just for it's color.

That's just ridiculous. I've been there. It's not worth the hassle.

Forsakenzoul Jul 9, 2006 04:41 PM

yes i am (At least plan to), i want the black one and Europe is the only place to get it :) It'll be worth it for me :D Thank you for the responce RockgamerXIII ^^
