I've watched ANFS's 13 and WB's 14, and I think both don't even get close to LE's quality of subtitles. It's bearable, but sometimes I had to read sentences twice to figure out what they were trying to say. There are lots of cases with bad choices of words.
ANFS is absolutely fucking awful, STAY AWAY. WB is very good though, I didn't find any instances of incorrect grammar/spelling or awkward wording. I tried out some others but thier quality was...average.

I would stick with DG but I have no clue as to what thier release schedule is.

Nightmare: extended opening and end single.

Being a Japanese major graduate, it feels good not needing to wait for subbed versions to come out. Must be tedious. :D

Just watched episode 16 yesterday and part 2 of the movie today. The movie got worse since I started watching the anime(started with part 1 of the movie and then went over to the anime). It got interesting near the end, but you could tell that most of these people where really bad actors so much of the excitement that was built up in the anime didn't come out as well in the movie. Still watchable, though.

The anime, on the other hand, still rocks. It really starts getting interesting in episode 15 & 16... I can hardly wait for ep.17. I'm even considering reading the manga... :P

I think they did a good job of computer animating Ryuk. He looked pretty cool.

Read the manga, you get the most story from the manga. If you like the movie or the anime, the manga adds alot of little details that make it more interesting.

Yeah, I think they did a good job rendering Ryuk, too. But there`s a certain charm to him that got lost somewhere in the transition. It`s still there, just not as much.

I might actually take your advice on reading the manga. Not because I want a deeper experience(well, that too..), but because I want to know what happens next. Waiting for a new episode to come out while wanting to know ohw the plot developes is quite hard... But I guess it makes one that much happier when it actually DOES air. I don`t know. I might wait and read the manga after I`ve seen the anime instead. That way I won`t ruin anything in advance. If I had started with the manga it would have been another story, though.

Where can subbed versions of both movies be found?

On THE INTERNET :P . I'm not sure if the second part has been subbed yet, though.

chato Feb 5, 2007 05:40 AM

........

@sacred X - you can find the first movie in this place. I think you have to register though but it's no big deal if you really want that movie.

subtitles are great too.

Sacred X Feb 5, 2007 03:02 PM

Thanks a lot for the link. Although registrations are closed every day except Friday's? Do you know if you can send me an invitation code? Otherwise I can wait until Friday.

DarkLink2135 Feb 6, 2007 11:10 AM

I love the anime, but that's all I've seen so far. It's incredibly dark which is right up my alley, and less "big guys with large muscles stupid auras and yellow hair charge up bullshit moves for 84 episodes" than it is an series of intellectual battles between Light and "L." I'm only up to episode 15 but it gets more and more interesting with each episode I see. I don't might a bit of martial arts or fighting in my anime, but I want an intriguing story before I want good fight scenes.

Pokey Feb 9, 2007 05:58 PM

Anyone know if an instrumental or karaoke version of 'the WORLD' and 'Alumina' exist? And possibly where I could find it?

Ekon Feb 18, 2007 02:06 PM

For those still looking for a subbed version of the movie, the first one was finally put on animesuki. http://animesuki.com/series.php/960.html

The movie was a huge disappointment for me though, so many scenes were changed compared to the anime and manga.

The biggest one for me was
Spoiler:
Light's entire meeting with Naomi in the movie was pretty much changed entirely, perhaps the only good part of his interaction with Naomi in the movie was at the end when he had her kill herself and Shiori as well which was out of nowhere for me.

Kimchi Feb 19, 2007 09:26 PM

Anyone know where I can get the anime and movie?? (Direct if possible... I hate torrenting with 4 seeders.) Where can I get some scanlations?

nazpyro Feb 20, 2007 08:39 PM

Only 4 seeds? All the Death Note stuff I've downloaded have plenty plenty of seeds: the movie, each anime episode, and complete scanlation sets. =/ Anyway, I came across this site before which has the chapters for download: http://www.stoptazmo.com/death_note/. Enjoy!

I just completed reading the manga myself today, so I'm sad long time now. ;_; Bring on Death Post-It Note!

Kimchi Feb 22, 2007 08:06 PM

There are only 109 chapters? Holy crap? I thought it would milked a little bit longer.

CuteChocobo Feb 23, 2007 01:06 AM

I think the writer gave up (I heard it from somewhere). She lost interest in continuing the plot.

Personally I was expecting the next arc that they might introduce the "Death Eraser" as shown in the one-shot before the serialisation starts. That would be soo cool to bring back the dead e.g. "L"

Still gotta say Obata sensei's artwork rocks XD
His new manga "Blue Dragon" is awesome... can't wait for the Tankubon to come out!

Just a quick question has [DG] dropped Death Note? coz they have been quite late in their release... <_<

bahamuty Feb 23, 2007 03:39 AM

The mangaka just abandon the manga for good? Was it an abrupt stop in the story as to make readers scream "Wtf! Where's the rest?!"

To make it more weird, not one single character in the manga ever mentioned to try and erase the names.Maybe Light already knew since he wrote in pen anyway.I think DG dropped their project cause they're one of those groups that lets go of animes when licensed.

Bahamuty - Tsugumi Ohba wanted to end the manga with the Yotsuba arc (which includes L's death). That would've been cool but fans wanted to see Light get his as well (I did too ;p ) so she made it happen.

CuteChocobo Feb 24, 2007 10:55 PM

He wrote the names in Pen? I noticed a few chapters where he uses pencils to jot down the criminals' name XD (haha I focused too much on attention to details)

Since [DG] dropped Death Note, whats the next good subber?

Pokey Feb 24, 2007 10:59 PM

Animanda is good. Definately not up there with Death God, Live-Evil or Toriyama World, but they are decent enough. Thier release schedule is every Monday.

CuteChocobo Feb 25, 2007 04:15 PM

Nice~~ thanks for the recommendation... its time to catch up where I left off XD

chato Feb 27, 2007 07:28 PM

Well with this week's release of Episode 20, we are given the 2nd opening and ending theme. I kinda like the whole crazy look of it but the song could've been much better. You be the judge. Honestly, It doesn't bother me at all ;p. Mello,Takada,Near and Mikami are in it. The 2nd ending theme is way better but already shows

Spoiler:
L lying dead with his eyes opened. They should've done this after his death but oh well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbRkmBcVWlc - 2nd Opening : Seeing a bunch of Raito Yagami Heads made me lmao. stupid but funny

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDtUZ0_MiWA - 2nd Ending.

roko-dono Feb 27, 2007 07:50 PM

I was actually told to watch Deathnote but never got a chance to actually look for the videos. I heard it was amazing. But after reading this thread, I'm so eager to watch it. :D

You can find a HQ version of the OP here

Song choice is bad. Really bad. The ED is not as bad since its less screamo and a little more melodic, but still, WTF? If they wanted to do heavy metal, they still could have looked for a more fitting song. although I liked the buildup verse when light is walking up the stairs with all those other people. sue me.

The animation on the other hand is insane...in a good way, since Death Note is insane in itself. I really like it, but the neon green/yellow/purple color combination for a lot of the shots looks downright ugly and pisses me off. What, the developers were on acid?

Max POWER Feb 28, 2007 09:50 AM

Ugh. The new opening really SUCKS. The images are cool and all, but I can't believe they went totally hardcore metal for it. I guess I'll be skipping the intro when I watch these episodes, now. At least the ending is pretty good.

Waiting for episode 20 to be subbed...
