If you're in the NHL, it should be instinct to shoot at the net. Pretty sure it would've been any player's last resort. It just so happens that Ovechkin got lucky, and made a play that's so statistically low that it's out of hand.

I can't believe it. With the win over Florida, the Canucks increased their winning streak to seven games! Second largest streak in franchise record I believe. What really pleased me was that Nazzy got on that scoreboard (finally).

In order to keep it up though, they must get more wins in regulation time. I don't think Luongo can keep saving their asses like that, night after night.

If you're not voted to the starting lineup, you're at the mercy of the players/coaches/whoever else that votes for the reserves.

(No doubt most people who voted for him did so for the same reason people voted for Schwarzenegger, though.)

This whole thing was fun and all - proving it can be done. But it would be best for everyone if he just declines to participate, since, you know, he so obviously doesn't belong there. It doesn't mean he can't still be thankful to any true fans he has out there for the support shown.

There is no reward for your conference winning the NHL All-Star Game. Home-ice advantage (if there is one) is determined either by a coin-flip or regular season record/playoff seed.

The starting lineup is the only thing the fans are voting on. The remainder of the players on each team are chosen by the respective coaches. I guarantee Rory will not be chosen to play on the team by Carlyle

Well when he says things like "I'm a traditionalist, I have a plan I don't think I'd like to commit to...but if Rory Fitzpatrick would be voted in we would have to make a decision as a coaching staff on how much he would play," yeah, I'd bet he wouldn't be playing.

I watched the Detroit-Phoenix game tonight. I was hoping to see the turned around Phoenix team that had won 7 straight games, but it looks like they had run out of gas as of this game. Phoenix held Detroit to a 1-0 lead through the first two periods, then tied it in the third. But they had been outplayed all game, with shots at 45-16, and Detroit went and made it 5-1 by the end of the game. Detroit's youngsters really shined in this game. Zetterberg got three assists, Datsyuk scored twice and had three assists, and Holmstrom got his second career hat trick. It was exciting to watch as a Detroit fan, but I'm sure watching it otherwise, the game would've seemed quite one-sided.

I don't know what's wrong with our play in the 3rd period, I didn't get a chance to watcch the game, but despite a 5 goal lead, we only manaed to escape with a 6-4 victory. I honestly thought we coould do better, especially after that stiffling loss that the Rangers had against the Islanders.

Remember that two nights previously, the Sens exploded in the third for 5 unanswered to beat the bruins, so I wouldn't panic, TBH. 25-19-2 is NOT bad, we're 10th in the league ATM, and went 10-4-1 in the last month :P

The Bruins are the new 2006-07 Flyers.

Well lah-de-dah mr. statistics. I'm not panicing and you know it, I'm just talking about what I thought of the game. Besides, statisticly, the team who's playing the best in the last 20 games is the Phoenix Coyotes so let's not get to hung up on monthly statistics, shall we? What matters more is where we are in the playoffs because according to our history, the season doesn't make much of an impact on our progress there anyhow :shrug:

To be fair, regular season accolades don't mean much of anything for any team when it comes to translating to playoff success. How many times in the last decade has the President's Trophy winner gone on to win the cup? Like three or something?

Apparently, in the time since the NHL last held an All-Star Game, they decided to make a rule where every team gets one player on the team. It's a stupid rule in baseball, it's even worse here. The number of players not on the teams that should be can be counted on two hands.

My apologies. I thought the voting was for the actual team. I saw the interview with Fitzpatrick on T.V. , talking about how relieved he was to not actually be voted to the starting lineup.
