I never really understood it to begin with. <_<

BTW, Wolf, I added you to my friend's list. Hopefully I could run into you online or something.

nabhan Apr 24, 2007 06:03 PM

Basically, when you beat certain Pokemon, they contribute to the stats you get when you level. Some increase Attack, Def, S Def, and so on. If you level your Pokemon solely against a certain type, it maximizes the stats on the Pokemon. This is different than normal levelling where you get scattered stats because you fight everything along the way.

I'm saving my TM's so that I have good movesets too.

Chaotic Apr 24, 2007 06:17 PM

It was something like that. <_<

I always thought it was too tedious to do something like that.

nabhan Apr 24, 2007 06:19 PM

It is, but done properly and you're left with an extremely strong Pokemon. It was kind of useless until now. WiFi = win

Dekoa Apr 24, 2007 07:11 PM

Well I've registered nearly everyone on the list, for some odd reason I can't do Lacerta's.

BTW Who here has experimented with the Underground?

Hmm I didn't know this. I suppose this is the main reason why you want to raise your strongest pokemon from the lowest level possible =o.

EDIT:
Oh right, I also added everyone's FC from the gfwiki page. Maybe I'll find some of you online!

Lacerta Apr 24, 2007 07:17 PM

EVs + IVs + Nature = @____________@

Although I guess if you read up on it, it shouldn't be too hard? ;_;

Dekoa Apr 24, 2007 07:17 PM

I just found out something about the Badges.

If you open them up and Rub them with the stylus, they become Shinier (To the point of gleaming) and if you tap them a Note happens.

It's not really hard...just extremely time consuming.

I think somehow I typed a wrong number due to slip of hand o_o

I corrected it on the wiki.

Also I messed with underground a bit, if you spend a lot of time you can find thunderstones and crap there... but the fact that the real features (capture the flag for a new trainer card and chattin' up 32 people to get a new pokemon) are local wifi only means I can't do them :E

Dekoa Apr 24, 2007 07:29 PM

Anyone wanna battle right now? AIM me if you want to (make sure you include the subject and my name in the first line so I know who it is).

I'm glad that EV's and IV's finally have some purpose now. I spent at least 10 hours raising a perfect Zangoose on Sapphire, but then I realized that there was no point. Now annoyers and tanks and whatnot have actual purpose.

I'm excited :D

Well, the new Physical/Special split definitely makes a lot more pokemon useful so people can use their favorites without getting owned in-game. Things like Hitmonlee, for example, which used to be little more than shit/fail back in the day definitely benefit from this new change. Hell, any pokemon with stats sitting largely in their attack/def stats got a much needed lift.

Oh and Freelance, it doesn't make you a bad person at all. IVs are just those the pokemon has once hatched/caught and they can either be rather low, somewhere in the average rage or pretty good. EVs is just a nice way of getting a few more stat points (63 each for 2 stats) into the right areas, if you have the time/patience. Macho Brace doubles earned EVs, so you can go through the 510 with ease.

Some folks distribute them so they shore up a pokemon's defenses, like a few guys are doing with Luxray.

Edit: Ooh, btw nabhan, if you teach the right male pokemon the TM, you could easily breed it over to another kind. But otherwise, yeah, keep your TMs for your bred/EV-trained team.

That's why I don't do EV training. I realize it's awesome for battling, but I never had anyone to battle with >_>

I tried the underground and digging for crap is fun, but yeah, no WFC mode -_-; That sucks. No WFC contests either >_>

Lacerta Apr 24, 2007 07:45 PM

You can also use EXP Share to train EVs if you are fighting significantly harder pokemon for a certain EV, I think?

I really didn't bother with it ever since Red/Blue because even if I EV trained the pokemon I wanted to, due to the way moves functioned it still wouldn't be enough to help them.

Now though, I might just fiddle with it :E

Also wow just found a female Combee. <3 Honey Trees.

Dekoa Apr 24, 2007 08:33 PM

Heh, Just finished a battle gainst Kairyu. Beat him both times. Of course I was about 5 levels HIgher than him so I don't think that counts.

It was a missmatch from hellllll~

You just wait until I get the rest of my team here! *shakes fists*

Chaotic Apr 24, 2007 08:40 PM

When people have had enough time to settle in a decent team, tournament anyone?

Summonmaster Apr 24, 2007 08:43 PM

I might binge until 5am or so again, and I've tried to find a movelist for what each Pokemon learns at each level, but gfaqs and google search have proved to be unfruitful other than for saying what evolves into what. I want to know if I'll miss out on early learning by evolving Abra to Kadabra next level, and other things. Anyone have a recommendation?

Aaw my friend code was flooded out on Page 15:
FC: 1117 6715 6944

Lacerta Apr 24, 2007 08:46 PM

You can always look at Serebii.net

... when it's not lagging :D

Usually at the nocturnal hours it is running great (all the people are sleeping?), so you can probably check stuff then >_>

If I'm not mistaken, Abra learns nothing aside from Teleport until you evolve it into Kadabra, then it learns Confusion at that level. I guess if you hold off, you won't have a chance to learn it (move relearner maybe? but he costs a heart scale so f him).

Summonmaster Apr 24, 2007 08:50 PM

Phew good! I thought I wasted the Hidden Power TM since the kids in Jubilife had their Abras use it, so I thought it learned Hidden Power as something new and I was overanxious. I'm also going to assume gym badges have the effect of pokemon obeying you under a certain level cap.

Lacerta Apr 24, 2007 09:02 PM

Yeah, it should be the same way I think:

1 (Coal Badge) - Rock Smash
2 (Forest Badge) - Cut / Traded pkmn obey up to Lv 30
3 (Cobble Badge) - Fly
4 (Fen Badge) - Defog / Traded pkmn obey up to Lv 50
5 (Relic Badge) - Surf
6 (Mine Badge) - Strength / Traded pkmn obey up to Lv 70
7 (Icicle Badge) - Rock Climb
8 (Beacon Badge) - Waterfall / Traded pkmn will always obey

Duminas Apr 24, 2007 09:23 PM

When it comes to looking for info on Serebii, I've resorted to caching. Such as... say I want to find out how Luxray evolves. I google for "Luxray evolution site:serebii.net" and I get the poxedex entry. Hit cached, and it shows you the text--more than adequate for my needs.

Also, seconding the "Japanese people are nice" comment. Was hoping to get a Chimchar, so I put up a level 24 Ponyta (I hate Ponyta and Rapidash). Got a level 4 hatched one. Though, the whole thing about not being able to replicate the Japanese names is oh-so-slightly annoying, it's expected.

Ah, well. Now I have a decent team, finally. Anyone around level 30, at this point, or are you all way further?

Dekoa Apr 24, 2007 09:52 PM

I'm just now getting to Lvl 30 Dumi if you want to Battle. I would love to battle ya. If you have AIM just AIM me or just PM Me if you want to.

Freelance wolf and I are still in the mid 20's. But I hope to get past level 30 later tonight, if I have the time.
To be honest I just want to unlock that Pal Park but I guess that involves beating this game first.

Not at all. You shouldn't worry about it unless you decide to be serious about online battling. Since you can basically beat the entire game with just your starter anyway it's just an optional perspective to look at.
