I thought the conference went alright. The tennis match was pretty cool. I just hope Nintendo announces more stuff about the Wii and DS. I hate the fact that Nintendo has to keep secrets from us, >_>

Sounds like there's really more to it. Well, in Q4 we'll know everything.

Yeah, I noticed that too on my second viewing.

Can't wait.

If he'd actually play those games, he'd have some great fun, I'm sure about that. Well, however, I can't see my father playing a Wario Ware game anywhere in the future. He loves series like Resident Evil, Pilotwings and Ace Combat ( =O ) and actually has some gaming experience, but most likely the combination of some Japanese people doing "strange" stuff with the Wii controller and the fabulous Iwata were too much for him.

I guess we'll see the real goods at TGS. Remember last year? All they did at E3 was show the shell of the cosnole. It wasn't till TGS that they showed they wiimote. (And their awsome idea still got stolen!). I expect to know pretty much everything by this year's TGS.

Soldier May 10, 2006 05:32 PM

Uh-oh, I just realized; the "new" RE game might be just a port of RE4, using the remote to control it. If they'll do it for Zelda, why not RE4?

I hope this won't become a trend, creating Wii versions of existing games. A different control scheme is not worth purchasing the same game again.

FatsDomino May 10, 2006 05:42 PM

SOLDIER, probably because it's been over a year since RE4 has been out and that would be a very stupid idea considering everyone has already played it when it came out on cube if they were smart or on PS2 a year later if they wanted more Ada missions, costumes, and PS2 graphics. But whatever I think they'll be making a completely new RE game. It just probably won't be RE5.

map car man words telling me to do things May 10, 2006 05:55 PM

I certainly won't be RE5. Nintendo's console might easily end up a dumping ground for spinoffs and "sidestories" like the GC did (besides Capcom's input of course). I doubt any of the major thirdparty franchises will be moving to Wii anytime soon, but if the spinoffs are good, who's to complain.

That said, I haven't read the E3 reports, but from what I've followed, I've yet to see a single Konami title. Has Konami announced anything actually noteworthy for the Wii yet?

TheReverend May 10, 2006 06:39 PM

It's a hit already :)

Rats. So these things work on regular batteries instead of coming with a rechargable one?

Do we really know this? I mean, its really very speculative. They named RE for gamecube before the system was released right? So what is different about this? This could easily be RE5 and all the better for it because the wiimote is pretty much perfect for it. I hope to God that it is RE5.

Sure SqEnix is using sideprojects, but that doesn't mean everybody will. Sonic, Madden, Red Steel, Call of Duty 3. With how well this show is going for Nintendo, I think alot of developers and publishers will want to take the jump to Wii.

The Wiimote powers the nunchka doesn't it? That means the Wiimote should power this too (i think).

On a good note, by pluging in the classic controller, that should bring the cost down. A dummy plugin controller is ALOT cheaper than a stand alone wireless one. This brings the pack-in idea w/ the classic more probable.

I wouldn't worry about it. From what I understand they are rechargeable, with a very very long lasting battery 50-100 hours per charge.

Ubi Director Commends Wii, Shuns PS3

The creative director of Ubisoft Montreal had harsh words for Sony during an E3 workshop focusing on next-generation game design.

Clint Hocking, the creative director behind titles such as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory explained how he was disappointed by Sony's attempts to copy technologies from the other consoles. After referring to Sony's mimicking of Xbox Live, and then duplicating components of Nintendo's motion sensitive controller, Hocking paused in frustration.

"How much more 'me too' can [Sony] be?," he asked.

Earlier in the discussion Hocking attacked the industry's strategy to up the ante in visuals significantly with each console.

It's a "fundamental problem of approach" to continue to push for stronger graphics, he said. He argued such an approach puts game developers in situations where they have to be factory workers. Assemble art texture here, model texture shades here. Repeat.

Further, Hocking claimed the adoption rate of high-definition televisions is so low, that the approach wastes resources on art that many customers won't even appreciate.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Hocking applauded Wii's new controller interface. If it can meet the technical accuracy promised by Nintendo, it can open up the creative minds of game designers, he said. While graphics may add emotion, Wii's new controller interface is more likely to bring emotion directly to the player.
I dunno, sounds logical to me.

map car man words telling me to do things May 10, 2006 07:04 PM

I dunno, lower development costs and more approachable development didn't exactly help the GC, despite what everyone thought.

If a developer feels a console won't reach their intended audience, they just won't bother, sadly. The business being as shallow as it is (as exemplified by the multiple naysayers in this thread as well), Nintendo may still risk being branded "for children" and this will sadly scare the living daylights out of most publishers.

If that's true (or even close to accurate), that's pretty comforting to know. So any news on someone uploading the hd video of the conference or my question?

I do hope there's still a Pilotwings game in super secret development. I guess I have to get Wii Sports when I get a Wii now. HAVE TO. Flying a plane into a mountain is an extreme sport!

Also some Virtual Console in action shooots are appearing on the internet!
