how long do you think it'll take for them to start airing it? And I don't know a whole lot about Viz...are they a pretty good anime licencing company? (censorship will piss off a lot of fans..)

The sucky part is now instead of being able to anticipate episode 13 we have to go all the way back and wait on episode 1 =/

Hopeless Jan 11, 2007 10:10 PM

Someone has to pick it up. Samurai Champloo was lisenced before season 2 started, and someone still subbed it. There has to be a group out there somewhere.

gymparasite Jan 12, 2007 02:26 AM

hey deathnote has became one of my most favorite animes. I recommend paranoiaagent if you like deathnote because of the crazy minds of the people.

CuteChocobo Jan 12, 2007 10:52 AM

Awww, this sucks >_<
Not Viz seriously gonna screw us over by making us wait for 6 month before releasing the first ep :(

bahamuty Jan 13, 2007 12:27 AM

That's too bad about the main subbers dropping it.
I haven't kept up with Viz's track record do they have a reputation
for taking forever to release DVDs?

Hopeless Jan 13, 2007 02:23 AM

The Death Note episodes are actually going to be released by viz online for download. No idea when they will dish out episode 13 though.

Pokey Jan 13, 2007 01:52 PM

I've been told Animanda will continue subbing, they release around the next monday/tuesday after the episode has aired.

chato Jan 13, 2007 06:22 PM

Im downloading the 13th episode by "Under9000". I'll let you know how the quality is.

EDIT : U9000's quality is so so. I checked the other fansub group called ANFS. Their quality is just as good or better than L-E's or TW's. Grab it now.

B4-Hunter Jan 14, 2007 11:35 AM

So so what? Put some screen caps. I'll wait for TW to release 13. :cow:

Shenlon Jan 14, 2007 11:57 AM

I actually didn't like 9000's sub. The quality wasn't that great and I didn't like the fact that some parts would be pixalated.
They didn't translate some parts like LE would, like the intro and the written portions. Plus the subtitles were a bit too big for my taste.

chato Jan 14, 2007 12:11 PM

Once again, d/l Anfs' version. TW dropped the anime as well

S/S for proof.

Except Toriyama World said they have dropped the project. -_- Same with Live Evil.

ANFS has excellent quality, but it's 1280 by 720 O_O. Which is larger than what I'm use to (since it doesn't fit my screen and it's larger than the DN episodes I already have).

Joe Wiewel Jan 15, 2007 01:27 AM

I downloaded all of the torrents I could find off of mininova and here's what I think. If I don't mention it, then from what I can tell, it's not a problem.

So...when I tried to play ANFS the top half of my TV was flashing green. (I watch the episodes on my 19" standard definition TV using my computer's TV-out.) No translation of the onscreen text. And I don't see the need to make the resolution that high. >_>

Under9000's fansub has very apparent compression artifacts and no karaoke/translations for opening/ending. No translation of onscreen text.

kubusub's fansub is in .mpg format along with the compression artifacts. No translation of onscreen text. The openings and endings are translated, but no karaoke.

ZA's fansub doesn't have any opening/ending translations and it's also been translated from French to English. I'm not sure how accurate it is after Japanese -> French -> English. Also, no translations of onscreen text, though Ryuk & Rem's subtitles are in a cool font though.

Animanda's fansub's text is a bit small for my tastes and sometimes they don't keep longer subtitle lines on the screen long enough to read. (I consider myself a fairly fast reader.) Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about for this one.

Unfortunately, none of these groups released this episode with the next episode preview!

My first choice is Animanda followed by ZA followed by ANFS. Under9000 is the worst of them all.

Unfortunately, none of these match Live-Evil or Toriyama World's quality. But we are getting these for free, so it's not like we spent money for a mediocre product (not to say that any of these fansubs are) or anything.

Thanks a lot for checking these out and reviewing them. I'll most likely follow your recommendations for downloading. Hopefully at least these will continue on and hopefully become better over time. Still very dissapointed about TW's drop, but sadly nothing can be done about it.

Just started watching the anime. It's <3. Though it has destroyed everything I learned about death gods from Bleach. :tpg:

Haha, watch "Full Moon wo Sagashite" and you'll get a new perspective of death gods.

TW dropped... booooo!! I liked how they used a different fonts for 'L' and when the shinigami talked. Does any other group, still subbing, do that with the fonts?

ZA's fansub cover the Shinigami fonts, but not sure about L. Joe Wiewel's post contained that information.

Whoops, sorry about that. I guess I missed it.
Anyway, I'm answering my own question right now.
I just got ep.13 from [DG] (death-god) and their subs seems the same as [TW], the shinigami's words and 'L's name is the same font used in [TW] except the shinigami text isn't as jagged and the quality is pretty good too. No next ep. preview.

parKbench Jan 17, 2007 10:07 PM

I just watched the Death Note live action movie on youtube. It was pretty good. I though the CG animation for Ryuk was pretty cool. I love how the Japanese movies, anime, ect. follow the manga so faithfully.

Joe Wiewel Jan 18, 2007 12:17 AM

I just downloaded White Bunny's [WB] fansub of episode 14.

Good quality, opening/ending translated with karaoke. It had a next episode preview, but it wasn't subbed. Worst part: subs are ridiculously small. Here's a non-spoiler sample:

http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/4...otesubsxc4.jpg

If they'd just increase the font size and translate the next episode preview, it would be great.

Craze Jan 19, 2007 04:37 AM

Does look a little small but it should be bearable..

Checked TokyoToshan and KubuSubs released episode 14 as well. Anyone tried that version yet?

DarkGildon Jan 22, 2007 01:06 AM

You've all mentioned stuff like the appearance of karaoke and intro subtitles, next episode preview etc. but I think what -really- matters is the quality of the subtitles themselves.

I've watched ANFS's 13 and WB's 14, and I think both don't even get close to LE's quality of subtitles. It's bearable, but sometimes I had to read sentences twice to figure out what they were trying to say. There are lots of cases with bad choices of words.

nazpyro Jan 23, 2007 12:20 AM

i'm taking joe's suggestion and watching the animanda releases, it's decent enough imo, and i don't really wanna check out the other versions from other groups (14 from them just came out btw). thx joe!

Cam Jan 23, 2007 12:00 PM

Don't get ANFS, they're a bunch of kindergarteners who fail at English. Haven't tried the other groups, but animanda is watchable enough aside from the small font, just takes them a week per episode -_-

Death Note episode 13 subbed by TW under the new nickname DG
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Officially, Toriyamas World (TW) stopped
subbing Death Note after Viz licensed the series.

However, that turned out not to be entirely true.

Upon closer examination, one discovers that the TW
staff actually continued to sub Death Note, but
released it under a "new" group name - Death Gods (DG).

Almost everything is exactly the same as it was before,
even including the audio bitrate and vertical pixel height at 400.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Different quotes from fan discussions...
----------------------------------------

From http://www.deathgod.org/main.php?skin=3

"A new group called Death God Fansubs has released episode 13.
Fans are saying that this group is made up of the Toriyamas World
staff under a different name, excluding the TW translator who works for Viz."

subbs anymore, im going to wait for Death Gods to release their
subbs, or should i say, Toriyamas World :)"

"everything is the same as TW except they hide their nicknames
by using names as Yagami Light, Ryuk etc. And use a different
karaoke which has already been mentioned. Even the OP-Karaoke
got the same translation so I bet they got the same translator.

Everyone who followed TWs releases should now follow DGs."
