Personally, I think...

Spoiler:
That I just may have uncovered a plot hole... and to be fair even the best of tales have these.

Also, in regards to Ivalice itself:

Spoiler:
That's the one thing about the games that was never mentioned, of what the planet's name was. Ivalice seems to be a very large region. What of the areas north of Arcades, or south of Giruvegan, or east of Rhodes or whatever? We know that Rozzaria extends to the territory of Tactics, but still, it seems that Ivalice is like "The Far East" or "The New World" in terms of georgraphy that the term covers: its a blanket name for that entire part of the world.

An interesting point is made with this: There is a reference to FFIV in one of the beastary entries, and mentions a 'far away kingdom' or some such thing like that. Well what if FFIV took place centuries ago on the opposite side of the world, and Ivalice is a REALLY large planet? It would give reason for the plentiful mist and magical artifacts, legions of creatures, etc.,. Just a crackpot theory, but hey, having Ivalice as a part of the world, and not the world itself leaves these kinds of things open.

One other thing: I really hope we see more of Rozzaria or other lands in Revenant Wings or other possible Ivalice-related titles (FFTA2 doesn't count unless they actually use Ivalice for real instead of a book), we hear a lot about Arcades' sworn enemy, but only see 2 principal characters (Al-Cid & his maid/assistant), and some sort of location within Rozzaria. Ahh well.

Spoiler:
A question about Giruvegan: Where exactly IS that floating place that Ashe meets the Occuria gang at? I mean yeah its somewhere near Giru, but like, directly above, heaven, etc.,? Also, why is that no one mentioned aside from 1-2 cutscenes about being around, and then inside a GIANT FUCKING CRYSTAL?! I mean I guess Espers are common enough to not warrant a mention by the party, but come on, that crystal was big, creepy, and had the WEIRDEST names for locations within 'it'.

Outside: "Oh HAY BIG CRYSTAL" "K"
Inside: "OMFG NETHECITE" "WOW" "K"

... and then that's it. -_-.

Maybe its just me, but a giant crystal that is probably the size of the Bahamut ought to be given a bit more significance then just "ooh wow, a crystal, pretty...".

One thing I thought was kinda funny was how the dragon boss midway into the crystal was all falling down onto the green circle area, as if he was literally running onto the stage because he was late getting to where he was supposed to be, like this might play out in an Omake:

*Vaan & Crew are walking towards the large circle*
"Oh crap, I knew I shouldn't have stopped at the coffie shop, gotta run to my cue!"
*Vaan looks around for the boss but doesn't see it. Raises eyebrow*
"Boy, I SURE would HATE to fight someone right about NOW"
*Dragon runs past stage crew and jumps into the cutscene at the very last second, his increased speed makes him fly erratically*
"Woah, yeow watch out, mandatory no-plot-significance boss coming through!"
*Vaan sighs a sigh of relief then brandishes his sword*
"I was hoping he wouldn't be late, but oh well"

"*AHEM* OH WOW, A GIANT DRAGON, LETS FIGHT HIM GUYS!"
"K"

:D

You can get two of the items in the first fight. I don't remember which ones they were, but the other two are available during the second fight.

I wonder then. If Ivalice is just that particular group of continents, what lies on the other side of the planet? Perhaps there is a civilization there that is even more advanced than Ivalice's. They may even have their own "Gods". Although I can't see why the Occuria wouldn't know about this. They seem to have the ability to manifest anywhere, so they certainly must have explored the world before going into hiding.

Spoiler:

Who knows, though it's possible they may have just stayed and gloated over their victory. Not enough material in the game to say much else about this.

Quote:

Spoiler:

This is exactly what I've been thinking. They just sort of said to themselves, "Well, then. We're in charge, now."

I have not. I haven't picked up FFXII in weeks. What does the entry say?

Spoiler:

It's one of the longest entries, so I'll just tell you the end. Side A, with their newly gained abilities/powers defeats Side B and turns Side B's body into a giant landmass for everyone to step on.
There's more to this, but just before the final page ends it's revealed that the land is called Ivalice.

Quote:

Spoiler:

I believe that at one time there may have been many more Occuria, and perhaps there are still more left than what we saw in Giruvegan.

I wish there was more information on why the Espers rebelled in the first place. Perhaps they didn't want to be controlled anymore? Or maybe they themselves were also hungry for power? Or, perhaps (my personal theory; one that is a bit too hopeful, maybe) the Espers tired of watching the Occuria abuse the Ivalice and its inhabitants and wanted to stop them, like Venat.

Spoiler:
I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case. Notice how all the "scions of darkness" were the ones who rebelled. Now, considering that the Occuria are some really unsavory bastards, it's not farfetched to assume that those they support also tow the same line.

Also, note how some Espers were regulators (Hashmal), or were once beautiful (Cuchulainn) and they were cast off when they either rebelled or were no longer useful.

Spoiler:

Cursed to forever remain a child. And rightfully so. I bet they all said a big collective "Uh-oh" when they created him!

Spoiler:
Yeah, they must've realized he could easily put them out of business either on his own or if allied with the rebels.

Spoiler tags just for safety, man:

Spoiler:
In the first fight you can steal the Genji Gloves and the Genji Shield. For the second fight you can steal the Genji Helm and Genji Armor. Steal during the 4th and 5th phase of each fight (each phase starts with a cutscene).

Lazlow Feb 28, 2007 05:09 PM

I don't know if this should be a spoiler
Spoiler:
Didn't it seem that Gilamesh was in a hurry for the battle, but his entery landing was a little off......I wonder if theres any Bloopers of him making that cut scene.

Like the fight with the dragon boss in Giruvegan..

Have you played FFV? In that game Gilgamesh is pretty much a joke character, a coward who acts tough when he's got the odds on his side, but who shows his true nature when he's about to be defeated in battle (that is, he escapes, just like in this game).

Lazlow Feb 28, 2007 05:38 PM

FFV? no, I haven't played it. The only FF games I played was FFVll, FFVlll, and FFXll

Well he does show up in FFVIII as well.

Spoiler:

Near the last 3rd of the game, you can recruit the Guardian Force Odin, who randomly appears during battle. Well if you get him before a certain battle with Seifer, Odin will appear (Who, IIRC, does not normally appear during boss battles, I could be wrong though), and Seifer will cut him down. Replacing him is Gilgamesh, who mentions he is from another dimension (The world of FFV).

Similarly, I am told he mentions something to that effect in FFXII. A notable evidence of his travels are that he has, among other things, replicas of Squall's gunblade, Cloud's Buster sword (The Kanji on the sword means "Fake"), and other weapons:

Warp to the Salikawood Gate Crystal, and head west. In that big map you'll fight the Bomb King, but at your level, he'll be a breeze. Then head southwest (?) to reach the Necrohol (you'll see a structure in the distance).

The Excalibur's in the Great Crystal over in Giruvegan, just beyond several maps of Shadonir.

In the Necrohol there's:
  • A secret item shop
  • 2 Marks (Deathscythe, Goliath)
  • 2 Rare Game (Gravesoil, Helvinek)
  • 1 Esper (Chaos)
  • 2 Optional Bosses (Fury, Humbaba Mistant)

I might be forgetting something, but that's what's inside the Necrohol.

Whitey487 Mar 5, 2007 10:48 AM

Yeah, you got beat up by Helvinek. He's actually really easy, and if you want to avoid him, don't kill the 6 Oversouls scattered about the Necrohol.

There's a Great Crystal map over at Gamefaqs with a map showing you how to get to the Exalibur map.

Whitey487 Mar 5, 2007 04:24 PM

Ok can you give me the link to the page? :p

P.s it wernt the horse that was bad it was the bloody 2 goblin like things and a weird shade thing attacking me all at once (there was me thinking the mobs were easy :P)

Now, just go over to the Gamefaqs page for FFXII and look for the Great Crystal map towards the bottom of the list.

Kill all the monsters as you go, don't try to run away, it only makes it worse. Try to use the monster's names or I won't know what you're talking about. Goblins? You mean the Baknamy? I'm assuming the Shade thing = Oversoul?

Whitey487 Mar 7, 2007 07:39 AM

Matt Mar 7, 2007 11:12 AM

Holy crap, the Gilgamesh fight is awesome.
I love his character. The 2nd battle was insane though, but fun nonetheless.

Too bad the Genji equipment I stole from him is all a downgrade from what I have equipped on my party. Oh well.

Dantro's sitting on some boxes in the output in the Dalmasca Estersand. BTW, you fight the Ancient Man of Mystery in the Lhusu Mines, not Barheim.

I am averaging level 32 and I am facing the Gil Snapper. I set Ashe to completely heal and protect and Vaan and Basche beat the crap out of it. In the end, I always get beat. Does anyone have any tips at all?
