That was...winnable for us. We lost by a matter of inches (two balls were about to be intercepted by Ed Reed, but were deflected by Ray Lewis and McNair's first interception was close). And the refs blew 3 calls: A BS holding call on Ogden, they whistled Reed's interception dead when he was able to return it (and they WERE returning it) and there was clearly a late hit before that (I think on Mason) that should have been good for 15 yards. That stings, but keeping that in mind, I have no doubt we'd have won if a couple of those 6 things had gone our way because it was a close game.
We made a lot of mistakes and our offensive playcalling was...awful (that's twice Jamal Lewis has done nothing in the playoffs), but we were pretty much even with Manning the whole way (remember: he should have had 2 more interceptions). Addai though...He's a good RB. He definitely dented our defensive line. |
The first Reed interception was dead, he was touched by the Colts receiver when he came down. The second however, holy fuck. Reed laterals the ball to Cmac before he landed out of bounds with loads of potential for a strong return.
On Lewis, he averaged nearly 5 yards a carry and Billick gave him a lowly 13 carries, how the hell does that make sense. My take on the game: Someone painted Kyle Boller black and threw him McNair's Jersey because that wasn't Steve McNair I saw out there. |

I'm so glad to see the Saints win. I'm really looking forward to seeing them face the Bears next round.

Man, both Eagles and Ravens die the same day...It's going to be a surreal aura at work this week. Saints though...They're the real deal. Reggie Bush got fucking GORE!ed in that first drive though. That was one of the hardest hits I've ever seen on someone...I swear he was horizontal before he hit the ground.

I really thought San Diego was going to win this one and win against the Colts to go on to the Super Bowl, but I was wrong. Colts/Patriots and Bears/Saints. The Superbowl is going to be crazy. |

What a ridiculous pair of AFC games. All field-goals in IND@BAL, just ugly play all-around in NE@SD. Of course, this AFC Championship will be the NFL's kin to Red Sox-Yankees in Game 7 of the ALCS. I already feel like the Bears have lost the NFC Championship. |

The Saints are the wise-guy pick. I don't think they are that good. They barely beat the Eagles and they Eagles weren't that good... and I'm an Eagles fan. The only reason we made the playoffs was because the NFC sucked and we could string off key wins against the weak NFC at the end of the season. Our run defense was pathetic all year and the Giants just weren't good enough to exploit it. The Saints did.
But the Saints defense sucks and I don't think the'll be able to handle the cold loud Chicago environment. |
So basically, what you're saying is: whoever wins the AFC wins the Super Bowl.

It depends. I could see Manning choking in the Superbowl against a tough Bears defense, but if the Patriots make it I think they win regardless of who gets there from the NFC.

At this point, I'm just rooting NFC...Colts and Manning can suck an egg and I'm tired of seeing the Pats win it all. The Bears are fresh and Saints (perennial losers most of their existence) are a feel-good story, Katrina aside. I'll do like the rest of America and root Saints.

All I can say is that if you go for it on 4rth and 11 in the first quarter for no reason, as opposed to kicking a field goal, you deserve to lose. Honestly, what the hell is that coach thinking. I hope he feels like an asshole now that that Chargers lost by a field goal when he could have opted to kick one.
I think that now I'm rooting for a Pats-Bears Superbowl. I really hate the Colts, and I think Tom Brady is going to lead the Pats back to the Superbowl. I really don't care who wins this year, I just don't want it to be the COlts. |

Anyway, ESPN's head NFL honchos, Len Pasquerelli and John Clayton, have picked the Colts and Bears for their Super Bowl matchup, leading me to bring up again my list of what would be the most popular Super Bowl matchups.
