I’m impressed I was highly skeptical when they started this entire the president is a traitor thing but so far the break in suspension of disbelief that twist caused has paid off nicely. These last few episodes have been intense, suspenseful and well acted. The man who plays Logan has had a great chance to show us his acting abilities these last few episodes.
Some random observations:

Martha speech about her husband pulling the wool over her head, in way reflects the way a lot of the audience must feel about this revelation.

Even in death, Logan is a pussy you were about to shot yourself you can afford to take a real drink. The guys who think they are in the clear are drinking more then you.

We know Heller lived ,yay, I’d wished they showed him for a bit however.

Why does no one play the damn thing back in front of Haynes it would least remove some doubt. Or better yet make a copy of the thing.

I wonder how they are going to do the next seasons if Logan does go to jail (he can still mange to deflect all on the “Patriots”) I would expect there to be a least some fallout that would effect how ctu and the government as a whole would operate.

Ya! We see Pierce again
OK Berikio(sp?) get free, considering the nerve gas attacks were basically this seasons B-plot I don’t see why the writer are bring him back into play.
Since the weasel did what we all knew he was going to do, looks like Jack is going to have to go directly after the Patriots.

JazzFlight May 8, 2006 09:31 PM

The last 15 minutes of this episode ruined about half of this season.

Okay, so Miles just erased the audio recordings, which Chloe STUPIDLY DIDN'T FUCKING COPY IMMEDIATELY, and this also makes EVERYTHING JACK JUST DID FOR THE PAST 6 HOURS OR MORE POINTLESS.

The writers should have made the incriminating evidence something more like video surveillance on a physical tape or something. Making it just an audio recording makes it DUMB why no one:

1) copied it immediately
2) played it over the phone to someone

What is this fucking shit ARG 24 SOMETIMES YOU'RE SO DAMN RETARDED.

RacinReaver May 8, 2006 09:36 PM

Haha, as soon as Miles pulled that shit I heard my cell phone going off in the other room. I checked the message after the show finished and it was my dad swearing about how much of a prick Miles is. xD

Rockgamer May 8, 2006 10:00 PM

Pretty good episode storywise, but what was with some of the visuals? That plane didn't look to good, and I swear that footage of the F-18 pilot looked exactly like the pilot of the Stealth Fighter from last season. But I digress.

That whole thing with Miles was kinda obvious. The minute Karen told him, I was like "Oh shit he's planning something!". And of course, right when I think Logan isn't gonna pussy out of something for once, stupid Miles gives him a reason to.

As for Heller, I wished they would have said a little more on how he survived. All we get is "Oh yeah, he was still alive when we got there". I know a lot of people didn't believe he was dead to begin with, but I still want a reasonable explanation as to why.

Also, why isn't anyone questioning Logan's actions? Even without the evidence, these people have enough reason to believe that something is up with him. Between the whole 'wanting to arrest Jack without showing evidence as to why' thing, the whole shootout at the bank (did they not figure out that those were Logan's people fighting the police?), and now from the way he handled the whole plane incident, you would think that someone outside of the people who know he's guilty would have said something.

Next Week:
Oh shit son, what's up with Aaron?

Spoiler:
I wouldn't really say that the nerve gas was a B-plot this season. It seems like since season 4, there haven't really been B-plots, just multiple, changing A-plots. I mean, something that could potentially kill hundreds of thousands of people is pretty serious, and was the main focus of the episodes it was featured in, so I would hardly call that B-plot.

Lizardcommando May 9, 2006 12:18 AM

I can't wait for Jack Bauer to finally kick Baldy's, Bierko's, Robocop's, Logan's, and Mile's asses. He should kick their asses all at the same time! Oh man, this season finale's going to kick so much freakin' ass!

Oh and that was pretty retarded how easily that recording got sabotaged. Seriously, wtf was up with that?

xman25 May 9, 2006 12:57 AM

Yeah, Miles just happened to have that device available. Really convenient.

Mobius One May 9, 2006 01:46 AM

I thought he just put a magnet to the recording, that usually does the trick on other storage devices.

I just finished watching this episode on tape (I had work plus got I interupted by MGS4 trailer). This is one of my favorite episodes so far, the suspense just keeps building. Quite awesome when the Logan was pondering killing himself. I was thinking, wouldn't there be smarter ways of going about it? I mean, the President kills himself and it would still be a big national fiasco. They could've made it look like terrorists killed him, or better yet, they could've tried to fake the President's death and make it look like Jack Bauer did it. These Patriots aren't as smart as they think they are.

Trench May 9, 2006 02:02 AM

Oh wow, people like 24 as much as I do. Jack avatars. That rules!

I thought season 3 was the best so far, but it really does bug me when they kill off main characters.

I actually haven't seen any of season 5 yet so I didn't read the thread, sorry, but is it as good / better as the other seasons? I watch them on DVD. Should I get season 5 when it comes out?

Mobius One May 9, 2006 03:09 AM

This is my first season of 24, but I've been watching older episodes as reruns on TV. This is a great season so far! I can't really compare it to previous seasons though.

Get out of this thread right now, it contains unfiltered spoilers!

joey561 May 9, 2006 07:15 AM

Nothing will ever surpass 24!
SPOILERS BELOW
(Would somebody be able to tell me how I can code the spoilers properly, so that you have to click to reveal?)

The whole 'not copying the recording' thing is an obvious ploy to keep the season going. Seriously, if Jack HAD played the recording 4 episodes back over the phone, plans would already be underway for taking Logan down. Then there wouldn't have been any hijacking of the plane, Hayes working against CTU, seeing things from Logan's perspective etc.

END SPOILERS

We all have to realise that 24 is NOT about real life; it's meant to be about real entertainment. And...

I THINK THEY'RE DOING A BANG-UP JOB :)

type [ spoiler ] <your text> [ /spoiler ] except no spaces between the brackets and "spoiler"

JazzFlight May 9, 2006 08:17 AM

Also, you don't need to put that in spoilers, since only episode previews and upcoming "insider info" are spoiler material.

nazpyro May 9, 2006 08:47 AM

Frikkin Miles. :/

Spoiler:
OSNAP look what they're doing to Aaron. ;_;

And yay for Heller being alive... now show Tony.

I buy every season when it comes out on DVD (even though I've already seen it on TV), so I'm definitely bias, but I would you should definitely buy it when it comes out.

As for how it compares to other seasons, I would say it's the most similar to season 4. I don't like to say any season is better than another (though I will admit that season 1 is still my favorite), but I will say this season is as good as season 4.

Acro-nym May 9, 2006 06:01 PM

I know many keep thinking about why they don't think to make a copy. The best I can figure is that a copy could be disproved in court as being falsified or something. A copy just doesn't hold as much merit as the original. Yes, they probably should have made a backup, given how important the information is. A copy is more evidence than they had before finding this recording. And once inside CTU, why would they think to copy it? They have no reason to believe that the recorder will be messed with there. Of course, Miles wouldn't have ever succeeded if Jack wasn't taking a break...

Hello?

This is CTU, the government building with the most moles, explosions, and assassination attempts in the world. Just a few hours ago it was filled with nerve gas. I don't think it's that secure.

CloudNine May 9, 2006 07:11 PM

Haha, Chloe was just playing a troubadour on Gilmore Girls. Never knew she knew how to guitar like that. It was pretty weird to see her like that.

Why would there be moles at this time? The CTU now is almost completely different from the CTU at the start of the season. In fact, there has only really been one mole this season, and he was working for a presidential aid. And within the episode, all threats had been neutralized. So really, there should have been no reason for those involved to suspect something bad might happen to the recording at CTU.

CloudNine May 9, 2006 07:45 PM

See, making a copy still makes the most sense. The whole "it's not as admissible in court" exuse doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't they make a copy or two that they could use to show anyone who they needed to tell and keep the original copy, that can with stand any scrutiny about its authenticity, somewhere where it cannot be tampered with? Not making a copy and using the original, that is so crucial to everything, for convincing someone over the phone, like they would be doing with the Attorney General, is just an idiotic move. Especially when they are going against the President of the United States, who still has power over everyone except the people in the situation room and would risk everything to try and get the tape back from them.

Acro-nym May 9, 2006 08:13 PM

Maybe the best explanation is that everyone was so focused on getting the real deal to the proper location that they neglected to make a copy.

Maybe the best explanation is that the writers are making this shit up episode by episode and sometimes they're just plain retarded.

Even the very premise of how the recording came about was incredibly flimsy.

nazpyro May 9, 2006 10:04 PM

My bad. I was completely ignorant with my above spoiler. For soem reason, I thought it was in the episode. :/

Putting aside how the recording came to be/the possibility of copying it (because thinking about it too much may make you think that 24 is the worst show ever at which point you should come up with creative suicidal strategies).

But, there is a more important issue at hand. I don't have a FUCKING AWESOME QUOTE from this episode to put on the 24 wiki. Were there any? Post!

Eh, not really. I read in an interview that she used to be in some type of band, and of course her background is that of a comedian, so that role wasn't that much of a stretch. She's already the funniest part of 24, so now it's time for her to invade every other show on television, starting with Gilmore Girls. She especially needs to go to the comedy shows that are not funny (like everything on ABC).

EDIT:

You could use the one that Jack said to that pilot. It was something like "Are you gonna land this plane or am I gonna have to do it myself?"

RacinReaver May 10, 2006 12:11 AM

Did anyone else remember Chloe when she was on that short-lived show on Fox called The Sketch Show? I don't really remember if she was funny or not, I just remember she was on it.

(Also, how lol would it be to see Chloe standup. "So I was rerouting the subnet DNS socket last week...")

Yeah, she was the only reason I even watched that show. All like six or seven episodes of it that aired.

It's impossible for Mary Lynn Rajskub to not be funny though. I think maybe only her and that black dude were the only funny ones on there.
