Also I'm glad I decided to get all of the system update and DLC downloading done before going to work this morning because holy shit that took a while.

EDIT: oh my god as I make this post and the game boots up it NOW is prompting me to download DLC? What the fuck were the separate system update and software updates for? Figure out how to internet Nintendo.

Also the Master Cycle is potentially game changing. I didn't play with it (only had time for two races), but I noticed it has the inside bike icon but ALSO DIFFERENT STATS. It's heavier, has less accel, but higher top speed and different grip characteristics. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first inside bike with different stats. Shit could get real.

Yeah, people on /v/ were complaining about that actually. Since you can still use the DLC vehicles/parts and characters while racing with non-DLC people who don't have access to them this could give people who have the DLC an advantage. The Blue Falcon also has pretty nice stats as well. Other people in the thread said stats were only really relevant in Time Trials but it could give a little extra oomph with the right driver all that he/she needs.

The reason I say it could get real is not because the bike will be broken; bikes in this game are weaker than karts in many ways, especially considering some of the time trial strats, but the reason it could be real is because it'll allow for more change ups while maintaining the inside drift mechanic that several of us enjoy.

Top tier times are not going to be set by Master Cycles any time soon and with the plethora of absolute bullshit going on at any given moment, I don't think half a tick here or there is going to change anything except someone's minor, personal preferences.

Wait, are we seriously going to worry about some minor stat differences unbalancing things? What the what? Unless you're proposing itemless Final Destination only style nonsense then I really don't think it matters, it just gives a small variation to those using inside drift bikes.

On a side note: all the new tracks are great after a first pass, I'm looking forward to taking our nonsense to them on Saturday.

Also yeah I think unless you're operating at a godtier level and/or legit fire hopping character stats generally don't make a huge practical difference. Unless what I'm seeing regarding the math is wrong, the difference between a 5.75 speed character and a completely bottomed out speed character at 1.0 is only ~0.1 seconds on a straightaway. Over the course (get it? HAHA) of an entire race that's a couple of seconds that could make a difference, but that's all super theoretical and assumes you're driving 100% flawlessly etc. Honestly the only reason I don't use Toad 100% of the time isn't that and is more the weight issue, since if you're in the middle of a pack of people you just get flung around like a ragdoll which is a super annoying.

The new stuff is pretty fucking awesome, Saturday is going to be great.

The sheer amount of joy I get from hearing Link scream "KEEEYYAHHHH!" while riding in a horse-style motorcycle was more than I expected. I love everything about this.

Those of us who bought the Get Good DLC already just happen to have good taste, that's all.

Reading the math for Mario Kart? Really?

When I first got the game I was mocked in chat for not knowing that the Acceleration stat only applied at every 1 point benchmark, so I spent like 30 seconds looking at a FAQ to see what the stats meant since the game doesn't actually explain that anywhere and the last Mario Kart game I had previously played didn't even have (visible) stats...so yes?

Yeah, unfortunately I'll be over at a friend's today for a Smash gettogether. I MAY be back near the end of the usual Karting times but we'll see.
