IGN also posted some new info on their site, as according to Gaimaga as well. Somethings that caught my eye:
  • FFvs13's development is trailing, and actual work on scenario has yet to be started.
  • Kitase says FFvs13 is not just a side story, and says that they're "trying out a type of adventure that we couldn't do in the numbered series." (Perhaps hinting at an adventure type of game)
  • Nomura also says that FFvs13 will have different characters, world visual design.
  • Also to note that the world, concept, themes, characters, and even eras could/will be different in each game (as the directors have much freedom).
  • Weapons appear to have a big part in FF13, as Toriyama says that more polygon's are going to used for them. (Guessing that's why our heroine's weapon has the ability to transform in the middle of battle)
  • Weapons may also have a big part in FFvs13 as well, as Nomura said that a good amount of time went into designing the sword that the main character uses.
  • Apparently FF13 will make some big changes to the RPG genre, such as progression between towns, communication with NPCs, and transitions to battles.
  • Party battles will be existent in FF13.

The bit about Female Character not being the Main Character was mistranslation.

EDIT: Hantei beat me to it, heh.

I'm not quite too sure what that means, but perhaps multiple parties (3 groups of 3 members) or something like that required to take down perhaps Ultimate Weapon? I might have just answered my own inquiry.

Er? I assumed that it was just confirming that it's not a game where you only control one character. That there will be, in fact, multiple characters in your party as per usual in FF titles.

Spatula Jun 1, 2006 12:01 AM

Ah! gotcha. I'm sorta surprised people were just mislead to think this was a solo character game, but then again we've only got like 1 movie that last for less than 2 minutes to show it off, so I could see where the confusion comes from.

Inhert Jun 1, 2006 12:16 AM

I doN,t car if there's more than one character because any it,s final fantasy so there,s was like 99.9% chance that there were more then one main character, but I really want that girl to be the main hero, I kind of tired to see same male character...

Zeta26 Jun 1, 2006 02:03 AM

Spatula, it's just an E3 trailer. It's pretty obvious that she'll be accompanied by other characters as well. Because no FF game had a solo only character. And Inhert, it's possible. Anything can happen during the development stages of FFXIII and FF Versus XIII :).

Square Enix usually has a knack of suprising gamers.

Which was what I pointed out that other people may have seemed to think this is one of the first few "solo character" FFs.

Ahaha. Actually thought I think the trailer was released to gauage a public reaction and to see what was immediatley liked and disliked. That way they (SE,Nomura) can (hopefully) avoid obvious things that would upset thier customers. They ARE a business after all.

[*]Kitase says FFvs13 is not just a side story, and says that they're "trying out a type of adventure that we couldn't do in the numbered series." (Perhaps hinting at an adventure type of game)
Maybe they also are hinting at gameplay/story options possibly seen somewhat in other titles, like DQ or SO3 or Saga, etc.,.

Saga had mutliple story lines and multiple characters. If you were to take the role of each character (Lets say 5 characters [the cellphone game is a different story] for the 6 titles said to be developed, each game having a main character), and thier personal story (Or the entire game's story) affect the next 'chapter' (Game) of the OVERALL story.

Then again, maybe they'll do something like very nonlinear exploration, visting different planets, etc.,. Just speculation.

[quote][*]Nomura also says that FFvs13 will have different characters, world visual design.[quote]
Well It would make sense if FFvs13 takes place in a different time period, then FFXIII proper.

Quote:

[*] Also to note that the world, concept, themes, characters, and even eras could/will be different in each game (as the directors have much freedom).
This sound deeper then it initially appeared to be. Suppose they have a GRAND, EPIC story that can only be told over generations, era, aeons (Period of time, not FFX Summons). It would certainly be plausable for the same world to change dramatically in between each time period you play in.

Look at a real world example: The world was a LOT different 100 years ago, but yet we're still the same country and same government.

Quote:

[*]Weapons appear to have a big part in FF13, as Toriyama says that more polygon's are going to used for them. (Guessing that's why our heroine's weapon has the ability to transform in the middle of battle)
I like this aspect actually. Weapons in the past always seemed to be just 'there'. Like... you buy a weapon, use it, equip materia/abilities/spells on it, and be done with that. FFVIII DID have an 'upgrade' approach, but since all the customization was via Junctioning (There's a word I haven't used in a while, haha), the weapon became of little importance. Perhaps we'll see a deep degree of customization options for your player's weapon.

An Idea: If you use the Sword more, you gain more types of swords to build from the base weapons, and visa vera: If you mostly use the gun, you gain stronger and better guns.
[*]Weapons may also have a big part in FFvs13 as well, as Nomura said that a good amount of time went into designing the sword that the main character uses.[quote]
Anyone have a picture of it, just for quick reference?

Quote:

[*]Apparently FF13 will make some big changes to the RPG genre, such as progression between towns, communication with NPCs, and transitions to battles.
Progression beween Towns: Perhaps we'll see an greater extension of what was done in FFX/FF12: where you actually traveled from town to town... then again they did say big changes, so I'm curious as to what they may mean.

Battle Transitions: Situational Battles, where enemies can hide behind cover and call for reinforcements, or maybe an elimination of a seperate battle stage (Already seen in FFXII).

Woo, exciting stuff so far :D

Zeta26 Jun 4, 2006 11:25 PM

So, does this mean that we'll see like an animation of glass breaking then we're suddenly swept into battle. Or that you freely get to choose the enemies you fight like in FFXII?

Nice long interview from Dengeki:

Freddy Krueger Jun 5, 2006 08:11 AM

Sounds great, 1 more year for more news =p

CuteChocobo Jun 5, 2006 09:08 AM

COOL!
As long as it doesn't get delayed as bad as FFXII then I am okay with that :)

Dark Nation Jun 5, 2006 01:46 PM

Wow, there was a lot of information in that interview. I'll let someone else take the first stab at analyzing what was said, because I have to take off soon, lol.

I will say this: I really an curious as to what they have cooked up.

Hantei Jun 10, 2006 05:09 AM

Mmm, pretty informative interview.

Just a few things that caught my eye though, like how the commands will be executed in a continous chain/combo (which is pretty much what the E3 trailer demonstrated), speedy battles seems to be aim of theirs too. I also like how they said they're trying to recreate FF7AC's intense/fast-paced battles into a playable form for FF13. Hmmm, maybe there'll be a chase battle on vehicles (much like Cloud on his Fenrir).

As for FFvs13, its story is, apparently, one of tragedy. Also the hero's design isn't complete and may see some changes. An interesting metaphor that they used was that they depicted FF13 as light and FFvs13 as being its shadow.

A playable FF13 demo planned for 2007's E3. Man, if gaming magazines start distributing that demo (after E3, duh), then I may have to get the PS3 sooner than I had planned.

Oh and here are a couple images of the heroine in figure form for the FF13 Play Arts line from the latest issue of Hobby Japan.

http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/6...ly015hz.th.jpghttp://img88.imageshack.us/img88/494...ly025um.th.jpg

Also, according to the site below, they plan to release another 3 titles to the Fabula Nova Crytallis. Totalling 6 titles for FFXIII.

http://www.ffextreme.com/item-560.html

No doubt that one of them will be a movie. I'm predicting that one of those titles will be on the PSP, probably utilizing the supposed connectivity that the PS3 and PSP will have. And I'm guessing that the last title could be an online game for the PS3 (since they've been boosting about how there'll be many different worlds, and how each game could even be in a different era).

Simo Jun 10, 2006 09:31 AM

Wow. The FFXIII Play Arts figure looks really good with plenty of detail and the usual Koto articulation. Thanks for the scans Hantei. :)

.....but where did you find them or the others for that matter? I don't suppose you've ran across anything more about the Play Arts FFXII figures aside from the 2 low res snaps of Vaan at E3?

Kairi Li Jun 10, 2006 06:47 PM

Isn't most scans from the Japanese forums like 2ch or other Japanese sites and sources? Cause thats usually where you find them first.

And a playable demo at Next years E3? Hmmm, and I might be able to get in next year, I only missed it this year cause I wasn't able to get to USA on time...

If they are making a FFXIII Fabula Nova Crytallis movie, hope it has a better plot and story development than the fan service that Advent Children is.

Zeta26 Jun 10, 2006 07:39 PM

You missed that statement Kairi, they said "it will be playable BY next year's E3. Meaning that it will be playable prior to E3 '07. Like how FFXII was given a demo treatment at some of the PS2 kiosks in the mall.

Inhert Jun 10, 2006 08:12 PM

good this new figure sure look awesme even with no color! the details of the figure is pretty awesome. I'll be sure to get that to go with my advent and new FFVIII figures too ^^

if there's a playable demo in 2007 it will be surely at E3 or TGS, I really don,t think that they will put it like in a magazine or something...

God damn, I would so buy them very quickly, however when they're selling at like $40 some a piece, then I really have to think about it.

Mercury Jun 10, 2006 11:00 PM

Oh man, this is great news, especially, the part where they confirm the nature of the continuous action-chained battle rhythms and fast-paced too, this is gonna be “fun en criss” as we say around here.

Once again, I’m gonna buy a PlayStation because of the first FF coming out on it. When they say it’s the games that make the console its true gang… and that Versus game is peeking my interest too, I want to see the trailer, hehe

Haha, I actually got all the fig images (FF13 anyway) from a different forum I visit. They never post the source, so I just save the images and just reupload them (so that I'm not stealing original poster's bandwidth). But hey, if someone does find a place that distribute scans of the monthly issues of Hobby Japan, then please do share!

Anyway, I checked the original source of the images and found the image hosting site they used. The guy uploaded a few other scans.

Anyway regarding the figure, it's definitely looking top notch. It really seems like with each series they release more improvements are made. It's really apparent when you compare the FF7AC and FF8 figures. They really improved the articulation with the FF8 line (Squall being the best of that one).

Heh, and while I'm on the topic of figures (off topic, I know), some images of the FFX Play Arts sprung up in my daily surfing. They're planned for a June 25th release in Japan, and should be hitting these shores in August, as according to Diamond Comics (the distributor).

Awesome stuff. Finally a look at some of the airships and vehicles from Koto's Mechanical line which I hope they'll expand to include the Ragnarok from FFVIII and Ifrit, Alexander etc from FFXII and so on.

I gather the FFX figures are re-releases but since I missed them last time I'll now be able to pick them up.

Good stuff Hantei. Maybe you should have a seperate thread for all the Final Fantasy/RPG related merchendise? :)
