I've got a question. If I import the Black DS Lite from Europe and use it with an AC Power adapter made for American DS's, will it work? I'm guessing it will be shipped with a 220V AC adapter, so that's why I'm askin'.

LS Jun 14, 2006 11:59 PM

You need a converter since america is running on 110 volts.

BurningRanger Jun 15, 2006 03:05 AM

Anyone still selling DS lites?

I went to a Circuit City (on other business, unfortunately) and saw only two regular DS's, and no DS lites, although there was an ad for the DS lite at the DS kiosk.

I'm curious as to whether or not I'll be able to get one soon, if everyone went crazy like in Japan and bought them all already >,<

I'm pretty sure that the system itself is universal, and the only thing that makes any difference is the charger. If they sell the DS Lite chargers separately in North America, you should be able to use one of those if a power converter is too expensive.

Mind you, I'm not 100% on this, but this is based on my friend's european DS which he's now using with an american charger.

Elixir Jun 16, 2006 07:10 PM

I would contact Nintendo about that, seriously. Or just get yourself a stepdown transformer since america's voltage is lower than europe's. Unless you want to crisp your DS for the hell of it.

Do american DS Lites even work with overseas power chargers? I didn't think that would be possible. But yeah, for games and stuff the thing is universal.

Pardon my n00bness but I have just bought a DS Lite, I didn't have the original DS. My question is, to get the DS Download play option to work, do I need to buy the USB Wi-Fi accessory or should it work out of the box. Right now, I can't download anything using the DS Download play option, is that normal?

Little Shithead Jun 17, 2006 05:33 PM

DS Download play is for recieving demos/multiplayer games from another DS and you don't have a copy of the game (in the instance of multiplayer games.) You only need a DS to do this.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (online multiplayer,) is done through either the USB Connector or an existing 802.11b Wi-Fi connection.

DS Download Play is covered in the DS manual (at least, in my DS manual.) I don't know if they've added Wi-Fi Connection details into never revisions of the manual.

Rockgamer Jun 17, 2006 05:34 PM

The DS Download Play option, at the moment, only works from DS to DS with games that support single card multiplayer. So basically, you can only use this if you are downloading a demo from a kiosk at a store or you have a friend with another DS and a game that supports the feature. As of now, there is no official way to use the Download Play feature via the internet, so no, you don't need a USB Wi-Fi adapter to use this option.

Just picked up a DS Lite, no dead pixels, no problems with it at all.

However, I didn't get a Brain Age demo card with it, did I fuck up?

Infernal Monkey Jun 18, 2006 05:40 PM

Nah, the demo pack-in is only for Australia and New Zealand. I think Best Buy was the only place giving away the full version with Lite's in America, and that deal only lasted a few days.

There's no way I could burn the DS since the current is much lower here than in Europe. The worst thing that could happen would be the DS failing to turn on.

And what's the difference between a DS not turning on, and a burned DS? Apart from the fact that a burned DS is much cooler looking.

Nice picture, Elixir.

I imported mine a little while ago. Mine doesn't have any dead pixels, but it does suffer from that clicky thing. Doesn't interfere with my gameplay or anything. Probably the only time I ever touch the bottom area is when I adjust the light settings and my alarm. (Yes, I use my DS as an alarm clock.)

If there's anything I noticed, people at EB are stupid as hell. Bastards sold me a DEMO DISK OF DARK CLOUD 2. I did get my money back. Now I don't buy anything from them anymore. They're too stupid to handle anything.

Hey, look what I just found. Too bad I don't have my original DS anymore though. I am usually 100% against skins, but it's Children of Mana material.

Wo0t! I can't wait! First, the 2nd Phoenix Wright was announced, and now there's a 3rd? It's a shame I won't be able to play with Wright, though. I love his silly gestures..

Eh, I'm excited about this, but I wish they would bring the third one over here before working on the fourth one. By the way, no offense or anything, but this is kind of old, as it was announced that they were working on the fourth game back in October of last year. They just recently released information about it, though.

The fact that I can just go and buy an AC adapter that works? I don't know. Maybe get a refund. Those are things you can't do with a burned DS.

Your image is awesome, by the way.

I just wanna say that putting the Hori Liquid Crystal Filter on my touch screen was a total bitch... for me at least.

But after almost an hour, it's on. With one or two bubbles, but I'm fucking leaving it there. Looks good anywho. The top screen filter, however, went on with one try and no bubbles.

Omnislash124 Jun 25, 2006 09:30 AM

OK, so I'm finally considering purchasing a DS now. I've seen both on sale and the price is really negligible for me. Is there any major difference between the two versions of the DS? Any issues with the new one? Anything the new one fixed over the old one?

From the first page, My eyes are set on a DS Lite because of the enhanced lighting. The DS Lite didn't lose anything in the process did it?

Elixir Jun 25, 2006 10:07 AM

It lost the wrist strap thing which people are meant to use with Mario 64. But that's it.

Everything else is improved one way or another. The only real differences is the lack of wrist strap and cartridge size.

Omnislash124 Jun 26, 2006 08:13 AM

OK, here's my dilemna,

Nintendo DS + Mario Kart DS = $149.99 USD
Nintendo DS Lite = $129.99 USD

Actually, I'm not sure how much Mario Kart DS sells for now....but I assume about $40.

Infernal Monkey Jun 26, 2006 08:28 AM

EB has it listed at $35, but I guess you could find it for $30 in any other store. So like, you'd only be paying $10 more for the much better DS Lite route.

BurningRanger Jun 26, 2006 09:52 AM

Seriously, go with the Lite, I could never use a regular DS again.

Also the battery life on this motherfucker is fucking forever. I've been using it on brightness level 2 for about 3 days now without charging it up, and it still says it has a full battery on the boot up screen!

Elixir Jun 26, 2006 10:06 AM

Holy shit, Infernal, is that some footrot flats I see in your ava/sig combo?

Also yeah. I haven't needed to charge mine very often at all - 3 times in fact, and that's with the level 1/2 brightness level. I don't know how anyone could possibly use 3 or 4 at night. It's more of a "only when you're outside" sort of thing. I'm surprised the manual didn't mention anything about the brightness levels causing eye troubles.

dusk Jun 26, 2006 10:36 AM

If you're planning on playing the Lite outside, it's still a bit difficult to play even at the brightest setting -- at least for me with the California sun blazing above. But it doesn't bother me, since I'd rather play games indoors.

I've been keeping my DS Lite at the level 2 brightness setting, too. Heh, funny how everyone's doing the same. Battery lasts pleasantly, too. I've had to recharge mine 4 times since I bought it when it came out, but that's because I used the highest brightness level for the first days. I read that the battery lasts 5-8 hours on the highest brightness setting.

On a different note... I WANT MORE RPGS FOR THIS THANG! I just finished Castlevania: DoS. Its RPG elements left me craving for MORE. The only other system I own is an Xbox, and lets just say I've been seriously deprived of RPGs (at least Japanese-style ones) since the era of the PSone. ;__;
