Totally not my turn yet (I think I'll check back in, oh, maybe 3 days or so) but I don't suppose we could just move north, could we? :(

What sort of check and action is needed to get off the recessed pit?

Also does Denny have a healing surge?

The unmovable stubborn Mar 21, 2010 04:12 AM

Well I suppose there's nothing to stop you just taking the stairs back up to street level. Just exit via P-48/P-49. Certainly nothing bad will happen.

Additional Spam:
Yeah, he has one.

Did you just assume a dude is a dwarf just because he has a beard or what are you talking about

Zergrinch Mar 21, 2010 04:28 AM

Oh, so that's Mayor Geoff, hm? He looks like a dwarf in that picture

Humongous bushy beard? Check.
Lack of a neck? Check.
Walrus mustache? Check.
Big honking nose? Check.
Squat face? Check.

Oh, and a few more mobility questions :)

1. Dismounting takes a standard action. How 'bout if I jump off? What kind of action (and damage) will that be?
2. My utilities allow me to shift up to wisdom modifier (2). Is this cut in half by difficult terrain?
3. Speaking of which, will you allow my horse to use my utility powers? :33:
4. How do you do the math for running? Rules say, add 2 to your speed. And if the terrain is difficult, your speed is essentially halved. So, if speed is 6, should running in the amphitheater be computed as 6/2 + 2 = 5, or (6+2) / 2 = 4?

If you want to try to jump off a horse while your feet are still in the stirrups, be my guest. I don't think Denny is tall enough to justify any falling damage, but your ass is guaranteed to be prone afterward.

Yup. Difficult terrtain essentially makes each square of movement cost two squares, so you'll "shift 2" and only move 1. (So, by extension, if you can't shift by 2 or better then you can't shift at all.)

No. The horse has no class levels in Ranger.

You're overthinking it; 1 square costs 2 squares. Cal's run speed is 8, so if he was running he'd be able to cover 4 squares. Determine your maximum speed, and adjust from there.

Forced movement ignores difficult terrain, so how does this change Flute of the Dancing Satyr?

My own movement is not forced, obviously. But what of that of the rest of the party?

The unmovable stubborn Mar 21, 2010 04:18 PM

The flute doesn't produce forced movement, though. It gives allies the option to shift as a free action.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 21, 2010 04:23 PM

I understand that, but we've been using it as the former because of that old "just move them to avoid delaying even further" thing, and I was curious if that counted as in game forced movement or not.

Which makes sense that it doesn't. Cool enough, thanks.

So, will it still be a standard? Or can it be a minor? Or even free? :)

I don't wanna lose my 75 gp horsie :(

Normally, that's how I'd interpret it too. I just thought I'd get your interpretation, after seeing how someone on the Wizards Q&A board saw it. S'cool, your game, your rules interpretation.

Yes, Zerg. You may fall off your horse, break your leg, and fall face-first into filthy corpse water as a minor action.

(that WizO boards discussion seems to be about being Slowed, not about terrain)

Zergrinch Mar 22, 2010 10:21 AM

Last question on the topic because I really want to keep that standard to attack and I don't wanna end up prone

Suppose I say I use acrobatics to take a flying leap off the horse, do a somersault, and land on the ground next to it feet-first...

(1) Allow?
(2) If so, DC 15? :D
(3) Still a minor, or will you rule it a move or standard?

The unmovable stubborn Mar 22, 2010 08:20 PM

You know what, if I allow a paladin to use Acrobatics to run handsfree up a vertical ladder I can't reasonably tell you no on this one.

DC 25, as a move action.

...assuming I don't just murder your horse on my turn and render the issue moot.

Zergrinch Mar 22, 2010 08:23 PM

Indeed. It is my hope that your fairness will trump your harshness this time, and that the horse will at least be given a chance to act before :gluefactory: :(

Yes, but mine was fucking great, whereas Zerg is just a fucking asshat.

Zergrinch Mar 22, 2010 09:47 PM

I <3 you too Deni

The unmovable stubborn Mar 22, 2010 09:57 PM

Zerg's posts are verbose, convoluted, and routinely delivered in strange dialects, but they are prompt.

And numerous. So he also fills in the gap between posts by sheer volume.

Much like dirt fills in the space between glorious, beautiful trees.

Zergrinch Mar 22, 2010 10:03 PM

Without the dirt, the trees won't grow ~~~~~~~~

What bums me about the situation is Denny's death will derail my corny pun plans to buy two additional horses, named Kaa and Lisa. Because I will definitely have to name future horses in his honor :(

The unmovable stubborn Mar 22, 2010 10:22 PM

WHY WOULD YOU TAKE A HORSE TO THE THEATER IN THE FIRST PLACE

Zergrinch Mar 22, 2010 10:25 PM

To protect it from the angry seething mob. :(

How'd I know you'd drop us into the encounter lined up like ducks in a barrel

By passing directly through said mob.

Zergrinch Mar 22, 2010 10:28 PM

.... yes ._.

That way I could keep an eye on him, rather than go into the fight on foot and come back with dead horse and dismantled wagon...

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 23, 2010 08:21 AM

Why do you need to get off the horse anyway? Surely you can mince about miles away from the actual fight just as well mounted as you can on foot?

Also, do near-empty placeholder posts on his behalf from Skills count to stop Acer breaching the tardy post rule, coz he's on at least five strikes by now and the rest of us aren't getting any younger.

Zergrinch Mar 23, 2010 08:29 AM

Yeah Shin. But the sad part is possibly any attac k roll against Denny will hit, so I think it’s b etter for Cal to hoof it for this one. T’was a mistake to have brought him in (though it’s kind of a "damn if you do, damn if you don’t" type o f thing, as I didn’t know if Pang was going to a ssassinate my horse while we’re off to bat tle.)

Hope the mistake won’t fatal. (At least Doorman Orc got a turn to act before he bought the f arm.)

Also if Pang is going to enforce the inactivity ru le, I truly hope he does it after and not during this battle :)

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 23, 2010 08:34 AM

If he bumps out Acer, there's nothing to say a replacement couldn't swing through a window and save your collective arses during the fight. I'm sure Pang wouldn't be so cruel as to kill your horse in a way that wasn't particularly amusing and in front of your face. I'd question how likely your wagon is to be intact when you get out of there though.
