Wow, you guys are dumb. In Kirby Super Star Kirby could get the cook ability from eating Chef Kawasaki. In a similar fashion you'd get it from Cookin' in the ability's return eight years later in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. In both games you are rewarded by the one-time-only move by being able to suck all on-screen enemies into a hot cauldron, stir them around for a bit, and then turn them into food for Kirby to feast upon.

So no, of all Square-Enix characters you will not be seeing Quina in the game. Get real. =/

Ohhhhhhh. Ok. False Alarm. Everybody back to their seats.
(Thanks for clearing that up)

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe this means we can see Kirby's cook ability in SSBB? That would be friggin' sweet. ='D

I guess he'll use other copy abilities in this game since he used a few already in Melee.

That is EXACTLY what it means.

Snake is basically the closest thing Konami's got as a mascot. I don't see how he can be more "out there" than ice climbers, ness, or any of the other losers from SSBM. Or Cloud for that matter, who appeared in one game and a movie. Maybe you're a little biased as a squenix fan (as I'm guessing from your avatar) but MGS is very mainstream.

Manny Biggz May 13, 2006 11:54 AM

Cloud also appeared in a fighting game.

Cook ability is his "super" move. New feature for Brawl. I hope it puts more than one person in the stew. =)

Kirby has a copy ability for every character in the game. That means you'll be seeing Kirby with a mullet and a bandana when he copies Snake. Hopefully he'll get Snake's box move. ='D

Xardion May 13, 2006 12:17 PM

Unless they change him to where copy gives him more than just a new look and a single move, I doubt he'll get the box. Most likely it'll be the tranq gun.

FatsDomino May 13, 2006 12:25 PM

Yeah, however my thoughts are that Snake's shield will be he quickly gets into the box, and whenever he does a shield shuffle left or right it'll be the box shuffling really quickly left or right. In that case I don't think it would be too hard to add that small little detail to Kirby's Snake ability. It's just a shield afterall.

However, the box may also end up becoming an item in the game so no matter.

HostileCreation May 13, 2006 12:32 PM

"That means you'll be seeing Kirby with a mullet and a bandana when he copies Snake"

Hahahahaha, now my #1 most anticipated game. Stealth Kirby go!

"Out there". Sure. Six games in the Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid series, numerous other games (e.g. Metal Gear Acid).

He's one of Konami's biggest characters, and well known. Plus, as said ad infinitum earlier, Twin Snakes was on the GCN and Metal Gear was ported to the NES.

As for Cloud, aside from any cameos, he's only been in one major video game, FFVII, which was on the Playstation. In fact, this game was the first Final Fantasy game to be released after Square decided to ditch Nintendo. Somehow, I don't think Cloud would be Nintendo's first choice even if they were going to license a character from Square (which we have no evidence of).

To sum it up for you,

WEATHER REPORT: NO CLOUDS

FatsDomino May 13, 2006 12:36 PM

Besides, most people would rather have Geno or Crono if there were to be any Square characters in the game.

Xardion May 13, 2006 12:37 PM

Actually, it would be cool for him to take on more aspects like that of whoever he copied, even if they were only cosmetic changes. Also, I can't really see what the box would do as an item. Maybe it'd be a weak star where you're invincible, but you can't attack. That's pretty pointless, though. I was wanting the box to be Snake's down + B move, but I can't really see what it could do other than reflect, which doesn't make sense at all. I'll have to say your idea of it being his shield sounds much better.

FatsDomino May 13, 2006 12:44 PM

Psh, have you seen what people have been doing in MGS3's online mode? It's just people crawling around in boxes. The box item would just be something that if you pressed down you could crawl around in because it's funny and then throw at people for damage or maybe when thrown at an opponent they get trapped inside the box or are forced to crawl around with it on them for a few seconds while you lay the smack down on the box.

Xardion May 13, 2006 12:48 PM

No, I haven't seen what people have been doing in MGS3's online mode, since I've never played it. I have seen the VG Cats comic about it, though. Trapping them in the box sounds a bit cheap, but then again, what item in the games isn't cheap?

map car man words telling me to do things May 13, 2006 12:54 PM

If a Square character does get put in, I'd say it'd likely be one of the Crystal Chronicles cast since those are easier to transfer and have appeared on the GC.
Crono would require a complete modeling in 3D and would make for a dull character anyway.

Either way, Square characters are not going to happen. Just forget it. Focus on Capcom and Konami.

Dammit, i was gonna say something about the Chef Kirby. Hehe, that looks kinda cute actually. :)

Speaking of kirby related items, would it be too much to ask if they also include the Super Megaphone thing from that game as well?

Free.User May 13, 2006 01:08 PM

I was just thinking. You know how SSBB is 99% most likely to be online? Well, think of the possibilities you could have when you are playing a person who can't see your screen. True invisibility, anyone?

As far as Capcom goes, Megaman? Maybe Jill from RE (also already running on the Cube).

I don't think there will be more than one or two characters from any one outside developer. I think, like the previous two games, the focus is going to Nintendo characters, and characters that have appeared (nearly) exclusively on Nintendo consoles (e.g. Pokemon).

I'd be really interested to know the final number of characters. Hopefully we'll see an increase similar to the one we saw from SSB64 to SSBM.

Xardion May 13, 2006 01:14 PM

You know, all this talk of Snake, boxes, and bringing in other characters that will never be in the game has me distracted from the real issues:

What moves will Meta Knight have, what move will Kirby get by eating him, and will Kirby have the mask after he eats him?

FatsDomino May 13, 2006 01:22 PM

Kirby will probably have a mask and a cape/shoulder armor. I can't really think of the move Kirby would get. Depends on what they make Meta Knight's default special move and at this point I have no idea what that is. Meta Knight is mostly various sword moves, wings for flight, and cape shield at this point. I have no idea what his specials will be.

Xardion May 13, 2006 01:25 PM

I don't really see what all Meta Knight will have available aside from the sword, the wings, and the looking awesome, since we all know he's just
Spoiler:
a blue Kirby who's angry at everybody because he's blue and wears a mask to hide it.

FatsDomino May 13, 2006 01:28 PM

Actually, what would make my freaking day is if after Kirby eats Meta Knight, Meta Knight loses his mask. He's actually pretty cute without it which because of him being a menacing character is why it is necessary for him to wear one. He's basically a larger blue version of Kirby with arms and hands. He'd probably then quickly hide his face with his cape and pull out another mask to cover it up again. ='D

Xardion May 13, 2006 01:29 PM

Ahaha, no what would be awesome is when Kirby eats him, they essentially swap complete characters.

Capcom like... Megaman? That's who I wanna see. He'll probably be too similar to Samus though.
